Calling All Senior Veterans
for a special recognition event! We want to celebrate YOU on November 6, the Saturday before Veterans Day.
If you are a Federal or Postal employee or an active or retired member of the US Military, please help our Meals on Wheels program by delivering meals one lunch period per month or by making a pledge during the CFC to the Senior Center, #54352.
The Senior Center is partnering with Operation Gratitude to honor Senior Veterans in our community. Operation Gratitude says: *Americans want to do their part for the country they love. *Americans across our great country care about those who provide safety, security, and protection for our way of life, and want to show their gratitude to those who have raised their hand to serve and sacrifice for our nation. *Saying “Thank You” and other expressions of gratitude can lift the spirits of both those who give and those who receive. If you are age 60 or better and have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, please go to the Senior Center website (www.SeniorView.com) click on the VETERANS tab, and follow instructions to complete the form. You’ll receive a care package on November 6 via a drive-through at the Senior Center! Please keep an eye on your email for details about pick-up times once we receive all forms. Quantity is limited and the cutoff day for receiving forms is midnight, October 21. Reminders will be on the Senior Center social media pages and in upcoming email blasts.
Notes thanking the veterans for their services are also welcome. Companies may combine with promo pieces. For details, call Cathie Mayne at 256.382.0925.
Oh! You already volunteer or donate to support
Meals on Wheels? THANK YOU! You helped this vital program serve 64,000 meals to homebound Seniors last year.
Please share the love and pass the Senior Center CFC # to your coworkers. Tell them why you believe it’s important to support
Meals on Wheels!

Kids love magic. Kids love science.
In each episode Steve Trash performs several amazing magic tricks, which (of course) is totally NOT science, but an illusion. Then, Steve proceeds to showcase a science idea that’s equally fun and amazing, explaining the difference along the way. Kids love it because it’s fast-paced and visually interesting. Teachers love it because it’s real science!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Oct. 13, 2021 Contact: Tony Ceasar – 205-558-7558 for photos or an interview with a VIVA MEDICARE representative
Local Medicare plan receives elite 5-Star national ranking VIVA MEDICARE first and only Alabama-based plan to receive distinction from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Enrollment in 2022 Medicare plans starts Oct. 15 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – VIVA MEDICARE has been named an overall 5-out-of-5-Stars Medicare Advantage (MA) plan by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the first and only Alabama-based plan to achieve this exceptional distinction. The local plan now joins an elite group of Medicare plans across the nation. Known for its commitment to delivering quality care with a personal touch, the health insurer earned the top ranking based on its excellent performance on 40 measures across key areas, such as preventive screenings and tests, chronic condition management, provider responsiveness and care, member complaints/disenrollments, and customer service. VIVA HEALTH, which is part of the renowned University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Health System, has served Alabama for more than 25 years and has a member base that extends far beyond its home city. The company’s Medicare Advantage plans are offered in 35 Alabama counties with a network of 70 hospitals, more than 10,000 doctors and other providers, and worldwide emergency coverage. “This distinction is a tremendous accomplishment for VIVA HEALTH, but it is equally important to note this is a win for our state,” said Will Ferniany, UAB Health System chief executive officer and chairman of the VIVA HEALTH board of directors. “Seniors and individuals with disabilities in Alabama deserve access to the highest-quality health care. VIVA MEDICARE’s plans go beyond traditional Medicare to offer many extra benefits and unparalleled, easy-to-access customer service. This elite ranking conveys the commitment and dedication that VIVA MEDICARE shows its members.” Medicare’s annual enrollment period begins Friday, and recipients have until Dec. 7 to make their health plan choices for 2022. However, VIVA MEDICARE’s 5-Star rating means that, for the first time, Alabamians have access to the 5Star special enrollment period to join a standard Medicare Advantage plan. This allows Medicare beneficiaries to switch from their current Medicare plan to a Medicare plan with a 5-Star rating. This
