Once parked you will need to go to the Registration Hut where you will be able to register and collect your wristbands.
CHOOSE THE PERFECT TENT A tent with a spare compartment is the easiest way to keep things organised; your sleeping space stays clean and dry and you have an area to store shoes and any other bits and bobs you bring.
Pack clothes for every season. As we all know, weather can change very quickly in the UK. Layers keep you covered for hot and cold weather, and flip-flops and wellies are always useful. Bring more than one pair of jeans, we all know how long they can take to dry if they get wet.
Pitch your tent at home before you head to Focus. Check you have all the parts and there are no holes or problems.
Bring a cool box with ice blocks for food and drink. There will also be an ice-block exchange in our on-site Camp Shop.
PACK SMART
It gets cold at night-time. If you are sleeping on an airbed, make sure you have something underneath it (roll mats or even cardboard). This will help to stop the cold ground cooling the air in your airbed. Thick socks are also brilliant to help stay warm during the night.
Put the things you need first when you get to Focus in your car last. Put your tent in last so you can take it out first, pitch it and leave everything safely in your car until it’s up. Pack your stove and teabags last so you can enjoy a nice cuppa while setting up camp.
USEFUL INFO
CAMPING FOR NEWBIES
Earplugs and eye mask! If you are a light sleeper this could save your week.
Store things in plastic boxes with lids to keep everything dry. Spare tent pegs, guy ropes, tent poles and duct tape are all very useful things to pack. Always check you have gas in your stove or gas canister before heading off. Our on - site Camp Shop will sell equipment, including gas canisters, if you run out during the week.

TENT TIPS • If you arrive at Focus in the evening, bring a head torch to help pitch your tent in the dark
• If it rains try not to touch the side of your tent as this can cause them to leak
• Bring something to personalise your tent, like bunting, so you know for certain which one is yours
• Make friends with the people beside you, you never know when you will need to borrow milk or sugar for your cup of tea. Build community and make Focus the best possible experience for all
• We would advise you not to try and lock your tent when you are not in it. This is an easy way to tell everyone on site that there are valuable things inside. If you don’t feel comfortable leaving your valuable items in your tent while you are not there, either keep them with you throughout the day or leave them at home
• We have a beautiful new site and we love it a lot. With this in mind, we ask you to respect your surroundings and help us to leave it in the best state possible
Here’s a handy checklist to help you decide what to pack for a fun Focus camping experience. Did we miss something? Tweet your tips to @htbfocus.

FESTIVAL FUN
SIMPLY CREATIVE
A week of fun creative projects for all. There will be a tent limit of 60 people in each session. In all activities, for health and safety reasons, under-8s will not be admitted without an adult, due to the use of small parts and sharp objects.
SIMPLY SCIENTIFIC CAKES
JEWELLERY MAKING
Sunday Can you combine a love of science, cake decorating and God? Discover the smallest parts of God’s great creation, use this knowledge to inspire some cake decorations, and maybe see some explosions.
Wednesday In this workshop you’ll have a go at bead-threading for necklaces, wireworking for earrings and earcuffs, and letter-stamping to create unique personalised pendants. Make beautiful jewellery and go home adorned like the Queen of Sheba.
FOREST ART FOR ALL Monday Look around you and see the wonder and beauty of the forest and woodland God has created. Be inspired to put some of this into simple drawings and paintings. Join in our collective leaf artwork – make a greetings card – create a collage picture – learn how to draw simple but beautiful trees.
OPEN DAY Thursday We will simply open the tent and give you the chance to return to whichever activities you enjoyed – or missed – during the week. Depending on the resources remaining, you might finish off a previous project, have another go at tree drawing, or make new jewellery designs.
SIMPLY CERAMICS Tuesday Use magazines, stencils and art books to create your design, then transfer it onto a ceramic gift using porcelain pens and paints. Tracing paper and carbon paper will help you make your art amazing, whether it’s a coaster, a mug, a plant pot or a little trinket box.

CERAMICS PLUS Monday Investigate using tessellation and repeating designs to create beautiful ceramic gifts. Items can be fired at home to make your design permanent.

WELL KNEADED
THE TWISTED CHIP
Well Kneaded fires up our wood-burning clay oven to bring you our Sourdough pizzas and slow-roasted lamb & pork belly wraps daily for Focus 2016.
Twisted Chips or ‘Tornado Potatoes’ are hugely popular with all age groups. Whole potatoes are fed through a spiral cutter and shaped directly onto a bamboo skewer. This intriguing process adds an element of theatre to our trailer experience and always draws a crowd of fascinated spectators. Once out of the fryer, customers can choose from a range of delicious shake-on flavours. The end product is a visually appealing, very tasty, nutritious snack. Twisted Chips are served without packaging so litter and environmental impact on the site is kept to a minimum.
We make our own sourdough on site, source our meat and cheese from small British, high-welfare producers and all of our veg is organic. We can cater for gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian diets. We also serve up delicious pots of granola and yogurt with honey which we make up daily from the hatch of the van... with some small batch filter coffee available to go with it. @wellkneadedfood

PARENTS’ GUIDE TO FOCUS The next few pages will outline what your children will be doing throughout the week at Focus. Our aim is to make this the best possible week for your family, as part of a large and diverse community. All the advice below is designed to help us live happily and safely together, so it is important to read the following pages carefully. We very much hope that Focus will be a blessing to you and your children. With love, Nicky & Sila Lee Associate Vicar at HTB and authors of The Marriage and Parenting Courses
Jenny Newman Head of Rising Generation (0–23 age group) at HTB
1.
All parents and guardians should attend the Parents’ Welcome and Briefing on Sunday morning at 9.30am in the Big Top.
2.
We ask parents and guardians to take full responsibility for their children and teenagers at all times outside their scheduled sessions at Focus Kids and Focus Youth. This includes supervising their behaviour; being vigilant about their whereabouts and wellbeing; ensuring that they get to bed at a suitable time and that they don’t prevent others from sleeping, particularly in the late evening or early morning.
3.
We ask parents not to leave the site when children are under the care of Focus Kids and Focus Youth. It is very important that we are able to contact parents and guardians and request their presence quickly.
4.
Please drop off and collect your children promptly for each of their sessions, which begin at 10.00am and end at 12.30pm from Sunday to Thursday.
There will be a Focus Kids and Youth Help Desk for parents, staffed all morning by an experienced team. Please feel free to come and see us if you or your children need our support.
5.
All children aged 8 and under must be taken to and collected from their groups by their parents or guardians, using the card system which is designed to ensure children’s safety. 9- and 10-year-olds are permitted to come and go alone, but this will be the decision of parents and guardians, who must take responsibility for them at all times when they are not in their correct age group location, at the scheduled programme times, under the responsibility of their age group leaders. Focus Kids cannot take responsibility for children on their journey to and from their group, and parents would not be alerted if a child did not arrive. If parents of 9- and 10-yearolds permit their children to come and go alone, we ask them to give the children’s small group helper a signed letter of permission on the first day.
6.
During the main programmes we ask that all bicycles are stowed in the marked areas around the bigger venues and that they are locked securely.
7.
Family Movies will be screened in the Blue Home Zone Tent from Sunday to Thursday (4.00pm – 5.30pm). Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
RISING GENERATION
Rising Generation encompasses young babies right the way through primary school (Focus Kids) to secondary school (Focus Youth) to young adults of university age (Focus Students).
8.
Missing children should be reported at the Info Hut, which is located in The Village; all reports of lost children are dealt with as a priority with an immediate on-site response.
9.
This year, your child’s age and age group at Focus Kids is the age he or she will be on 1 September 2016.
10.
Please note that no under-18s are permitted to consume alcohol on the Focus site.
11.
There is a fast-flowing river that runs through Somerley Estate. It is dangerous and cannot be swum in. Please speak with your children and warn them not to go anywhere near the river. There will be fencing and signage but please supervise your children onsite and let them know the dangers in advance.

JOURNEYS There are three levels of living our life on earth:
1 MY STORY
2 OUR STORY
3 THE STORY
Each child at Focus (and each person on earth) is different from everyone else. We pray that each child will go on a unique and memorable journey at Focus.
We are uniquely made, but the fact that we are all people made by God helps us to understand each other and to relate to one another. We pray that your children’s relationships will deepen as they go on a journey with God, and with friends in their small groups and age groups, throughout the week.
At Focus, we will be helping the children find different ways to place their own individual journeys, and their collective journeys, into the big over-arching journey of God travelling with us from the beginning to the end, the story told in the pages of the Bible.
We will be tracking Jesus’ journey through five key milestones, and, at each milestone asking, in age-appropriate ways, ‘What might this mean for me, and for us?’
Jesus’ escapade in the temple: What does it tell us about who He is? Who am I? How can you tell?
DAY TWO: CHARACTER Peter’s adventure on the water: Can we take a brave step too? (3–6 years old)
RISING GENERATION
DAY ONE: IDENTITY
Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on a donkey to do what he had to do. A king on a donkey: What does this tell us about His character? And how can we be like Him and change the world together? (7–10 years old)
DAY THREE: TUNING IN Jesus’ healing of the lame man: What does that tell us about Him? (3–6 years old) Jesus’ appearance on the road to Emmaus: How did they know it was Him? How do we keep our antennae tuned so that we don’t miss Him either? (7-–10 years old)
DAY FOUR: ENCOUNTER Zaccheus’ meeting with Jesus: What happened to Him? What might happen to us? How might we change?
DAY FIVE: MOVING ON Peter’s up-and-down journey with Jesus: How does he keep going and keep growing? How about us? What will the next part of our journey look like as we say goodbye?
75
Don’t forget that your child’s age is the age he or she is on 1 September 2016.
0–2s
3–6s
4mths–11mths YELLOW
3–4yrs PURPLE
1yr SKY BLUE
5–6yrs GREEN
2yrs ORANGE
There will be two Purple Home Zone tents for the 3–4s, and two clearly labelled Green Home Zone tents for the 5–6s. Each child will be part of a small group of peers with two dedicated small group helpers, there at their side all week to guide them through the Focus journey, and these groups will, at times, gather together for ‘altogether times’, led by experienced team leaders.
Focus for the 0 –2s will be a week where the children are cared for by a great team: we are so excited about welcoming your little ones into our safe, fun and creative tents. We will have a daily structure which includes (according to age) worship time, craft time and Bible time with the little ones – amongst a plethora of other fun activities. We pray that this week the children will learn the simple but life-changing truth that Jesus loves them, and will always love them as they journey through their lives. We want the Focus week to be a happy and settled week for children and their families, and we can’t wait to meet you all!
Within the structure of each morning there will be: colourful Bible stories around our five special milestones, songs of worship, times of prayer, creative zones, physical activities and sport.
RISING GENERATION
7–10s 7–8yrs RED 9–10yrs BLUE There are additional evening sessions for the 7–10s, which run from 7.15pm – 8.15pm, and include faith, fun, frolics and fancy dress. There will be a huge Red Home Zone tent for the 7–8s, and a huge Blue Home Zone tent for the 9–10s. Each will be part of a big celebratory group for fun altogether times, led by experienced team leaders. All the 7–10s will be part of a small group with their own dedicated small group helpers, who will be there at their side all week to guide them through the Focus journey.
There will be themed small group activity, before participating in our specially scripted fast-moving, heart-stopping, faith-filling dramas around the five journey milestones, with responses in prayer, worship and who knows what? The children will enjoy a carousel of activities split between creativity, physical activity, team sport and specialist workshops.

OUR TENT On the journey with Jesus… There are morning sessions from 10.00am –12.30pm; evening sessions for 7–10s from 7.15pm – 8.15pm; and for Younger Youth from 7.30pm – 9.30pm. Our Tent is a venue for children and youth who have any kind of special need. We take ‘special needs’ to mean extra or different help from that given to other children of the same age. Children who come to Our Tent will have one-to-one support, and they and their parents will be able to work out with their own special one-to-one helper how they would like to spend the sessions – in the Focus Kids or Focus Youth venues, in Our Tent, or in a combination of both. Our Tent will be led by a great group of leaders and helpers, and the activities will follow the Focus Kids theme of JOURNEYS. We hope your child will have an unforgettable journey with God throughout the Focus week.
RISING GENERATION OUR TENT PARENTS’ DROP-IN Functions Monday 10.30am – 12.00pm You are warmly invited to join us for drinks and biscuits with other parents and carers for a time of friendship, sharing and prayer. As we enjoy refreshments together, there will be time for a special session with a brilliant panel ready to share their own stories & wisdom, including a theologian, a sibling & a parent. There will be plenty of time to meet and chat, have the seminar and then talk and pray together.
OUR TENT BIG INDOOR PICNIC Functions Wednesday 12.45pm – 2.00pm All families and team involved with Our Tent are warmly invited to bring your lunch and join our community picnic. Drinks, fresh fruit, tables and chairs provided.

Younger Youth (Years 7–9) will meet in The Base and Older Youth will meet in KingdomCome (Years 10–13) – and everyone’s welcome at The Hub Café – a space to chat, hang out, buy drinks and snacks, and reflect and ruminate a little, perhaps over a game of Uno! New this year is The Base – pop-up evening events designed to help us get to know each other and have loads of fun together through the week. Youth this year is all about character and identity – what our story can be because of His story. In the mornings, we will look at different sections of the Bible which throw light on who we are and who we can become. Younger Youth will be savouring a juicy meal of character fruit, as described in Galatians 5:22–23. Older Youth will be looking in depth at 1 Timothy 4:12 – and how to set an example in the way we talk, act, love and walk with God.
In the evenings, all ages will look at the character and identity of God, as we navigate our way through the ‘I Ams’ of Christ in John’s Gospel. Our passion is to help young people treasure God, have fun, realise their God-given identity, influence society, value all and emulate Christ in all that they do.
RISING GENERATION

SHARE THE EXPERIENCE Focus is an opportunity to experience something extraordinary in a week full of God, community, church and life. It’s an extraordinary event in scale and scope. This year, there truly is something for everyone. We charge a ticket price that doesn’t cover the full cost of the event, to make Focus affordable for everyone to attend and enjoy. We need your help in covering the cost of Focus. It is your generosity that makes Focus possible, thank you. Give online at htb.org/focus-give
FOCUS THANKS YOU Thank you to everyone who joined a team this year at Focus, whether you gave parents a few hours break or welcomed people as they arrived, we couldn’t do it without you! If you are interested in joining a team for the first time or for the 100th time we would love to have you. Please check out our website or email focusteams@htb.org for more information.
