Most Rev. Shelton J. Fabre Fourth Bishop of Houma-Thibodaux 2013 to present Born in New Roads, LA, October 25, 1963, Bishop Shelton J. Fabre studied at St. Joseph Seminary-College in St. Benedict, LA, from 1981 to 1985 and the Katholiek Universiteit te Leuven in Louvain, Belgium from 1985 to 1989. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Baton Rouge August 5, 1989, by Bishop Stanley J. Ott at St. Joseph Cathedral in Baton Rouge. Bishop Fabre served as associate pastor and pastor of several church parishes in the Diocese of Baton Rouge. He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of New Orleans in 2006 and was ordained by Archbishop Alfred C. Hughes in 2007. Bishop Fabre was installed as the Fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux on October 30, 2013, at the Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales in Houma.

A seminarian burse is an invested sum of money, the interest of which is used in perpetuity to help fund the education of men to the priesthood. A seminarian burse is annually named for a deceased bishop, priest, religious or lay person by the original donor and can be added to and allowed to build up. Diocesan Outreach Line In response to the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux is offering an Outreach Line (formerly known as the Child Protection Contact Line). The Outreach Line is an effort to continue the diocesan commitment to support healing for people who have been hurt or sexually abused recently or in the past by clergy, religious or other employees of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. Frequently Asked Questions about the Annual Bishop’s Appeal Q. Why does the diocese have an Annual Bishop’s Appeal? A. One of the duties of the bishop, and of the Diocese of HoumaThibodaux as a whole, is to assure that we as a diocese can to the very best of our ability offer all ministries possible to every parishioner that needs them. It is through the funds received from the Annual Bishop’s Appeal that we are able to fund offices that provide so much for so many. Q. How is the Annual Bishop’s Appeal different from the recently conducted Capital Campaign? A. The capital campaign, Continuing the Vision ... Ensuring Our Future, was conducted to meet the increasing cost of educating our seminarians, currently the diocese has 16, and meeting the needs of our Catholic Charities. The campaign sought to establish endowment funds in the Catholic Foundation of South Louisiana where the funds raised will be used as an investment and only the interest earned will be spent. In contrast to the capital campaign which seeks to establish endowments for future sources of revenue, the funds raised during the Annual

Bishop’s Appeal will be used immediately to help cover the cost of the five different areas – youth ministry, religious education, less fortunate parishes, retired priests and family ministries. Q. What is the goal of the Appeal? A. The goal for the 2014 Annual Bishop’s Appeal for the entire diocese is $900,000. Please review your parish bulletin for your individual parish goal. Q. Is my financial gift in addition to my weekly giving to my parish? A. Yes, the diocese wants to see its parishes well supported and parishioners should not reduce their weekly giving to support the Appeal. Q. Is there a minimum gift amount? A. No, all gifts, whatever the amount, are gratefully appreciated. We do encourage everyone to utilize the monthly payment option to lessen the burden on their financial giving.
