Season Brochure January - July 2020
FAMILY MUSIC DRAMA EVENTS FILM COMEDY
WELCOME TO OUR SPRING/ SUMMER SEASON 2020 We are excited to share the huge variety of shows and events that we have in store next year! We open the year with Jim Cartwright’s Two, where we will transform the Heron into the round, giving the audience the opportunity to see this bittersweet comedy from all angles. We are looking forward to working on this production with our nearby neighbours, the Stephen Joseph Theatre. Our Young Company will be re-mixing and giving fresh voice to classic plays in March and May-July brings our Grow Festival, when we share exciting new work from the region’s artists – look out for more information on this early in the new year. In July we will also be producing an exciting new community production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Tom Saunders, Hull Truck’s Associate Director (Creative Learning) will direct his first production on the main stage involving
members of our Youth Theatre, Act III Over 55’s group and the local community to share this joyous production of magical mayhem! We also have a broad and entertaining visiting programme, highlights of which include a varied comedy programme, the ever-brilliant Hull Jazz festival, classics like Jane Eyre and gripping new work such as The Ballad of Johnny Longstaff. We both love bringing our young families to the theatre and there is lots to see for children of all ages; including Wolf, Hansel and Gretel, The Mystery of Raddlesham Mumps and our monthly Great Adventures in Storyland. Last but not least, make a note in your diary for Saturday 30 May when we will be flinging open our doors for Hull Truck Theatre’s annual Family Open Day, giving you the opportunity to explore behind the scenes throughout the theatre. We look forward to seeing you soon.

QUALITY STREET BY J.M.BARRIE
Phoebe Throssel lives on Quality Street, the bustling hub of a quaint northern town where she runs a school for unruly children. Ten years since a tearful goodbye, an old flame
returns from fighting Napoleon. But the look of disappointment on Captain Valentine’s face when he greets a more mature, less glamorous Phoebe, spurs our determined heroine to action. She becomes the wild and sparkling Miss Livvy a younger alter-ego who soon entraps the clueless Captain. As their romance is rekindled, can she juggle both personas? Or will her deception scandalise the town and wreck any future with the man she loves? J.M. Barrie’s delicious farce, written years before his now much-loved Peter Pan, was so well known in its day that it gave its name to the UK’s most popular chocolates, made in Halifax since 1936. In Laurie Sansom's directorial debut for Northern Broadsides, this rare revival also features a commentary from the Quality Street™ factory workers, whose own stories of hapless romance and growing old disgracefully give the show a playful Yorkshire twist. hulltruck.co.uk
