WEEK 9 READING: PERSPECTIVE AS SYMBOLIC FORM

Question 1: What are Durer’s rules for perspectival projection? (Maximum 100 words) 1. The perpendiculars and orthogonals in a perspectival projection meet at the appropriate vanishing point.

2. Any parallel lines all have the same vanishing point, regardless of the direction they lie in. Horizontal projections have vanishing poiunts that lie on the horizontal line through the central vanishing point. For lines that are on a 45-degree angle with the picture plane, the distance between their vanishing point and the cantral one should be equat to the distance between the picture plane and the eye.

3. Equal dimentions diminish progressively as they recede in space, so that any portion of the picture is calculable from the preceding or following portion.

Question 2: Describe homogenous space? (Maximum 100 words)

A harmogeneous space refers to a mathematical space. It is a geometric space that elements determing position in it are joined. It is possible to draw similar figures in all directions and of all magnitudes from every point in the given space.

QUAD PERSPECTIVE 1 + 2 Perspective 1 This view will show the city that desires either erase the city or are erased by it.

Characters are at the edge of the quad, looking outside the quad to show the feelings of desiring nothing. Elements including ribbons and suspended bridges will be shown in the scene.

Therefore, half of the view is leaved to be outside of quad.

Perspective 2 This view will show the city that through the years and the changes continue to give their form to desires. Characters are dancing in the quad, seeking power and status.

Therefore, main scene is in the quad.

PERSPECTIVE SCENE 1 + 2

perspective 1 This view shows the city that desires either erase the city or are erased by it. A girl is sitting on the bamboo cushion, another is leaning on the column. They may lose their dream and hope, but they are living in peace and do not have to compete for power.

The scene used objects of bamboo vaults, fence, cushion, barrel and balconies, since the city is made of bamboo. Other objects such as susbended bridge, ribbons, cranes, pulley, texture of wall and oor are also added according to the discription of the world.

The quad is in the air, and the depth of the quad can be shown by the relationship of nearest and farest oject.

Perspective 2 This view shows the city that through the years and the changes continue to give their form to desires. A king is dancing with a girl in the middle, and other noble girls want to replace the girl near the king. This scene shows the feeling of seeking power and status.

Oblects such as bamboo stairs, vaults, towes, bridges and decorations are used in the view.

Stain on the wall and oor shows that the city has experienced a long history.

Question 1: IWhat is the difference between autographic and allographic practice? (Maximum 100 words) Firstly, autographic arts depend on direct contact of the author, but allographic can be reproduced at a distance from the author. Arts of allographic can exist in many copies and be reproduced at a distance from the author by means of nitation. Allographic arts operate through interpretation and on the basis of convention, and they are subject to changing standards of performance.

Secondly, autographic is arts of painting and sculpture , but allographic is arts of music, poetry and theatre that operate through interpretation.

Functionally, allographic arts depend upon notational practices, or need to coordinate anintricate collabrativestructure.

Question 2: Why do architects need new representational techniques? (Maximum 100 words) Architects need new representational techniques, because the traditional representations presume stable and fixed objects, but the contemporary is a place where visible and invisible streams of information, capital and subjects interact in complex formation. Inorder to map the complexity, architects need representational techniques that engage time and change, shifting scales, mobile points of view, and multiple programs.

FINAL DRAWINGS

The arrows show the view from Marco Polo, either staring or glancing, and the steps show the way that he passes. The line of light divided the quad into light and dark, and the right part is light.

The old quad is divided into two parts by the line of passage of time. The left part is the perspevtive 2, which is controlled by desire. Symbols show the position of the characters and heavy mood. The symbol fire indicates their desire.

The right part is the city that desires either erase the city or are erased by it.

The mood is light.
