CONVENTIONAL WISDOM When it comes to “wisdom” teeth (third molars), patients and their parents should discuss their options with the dentist. An examination of a young patient’s mouth by age 16 or 17 should provide the dentist with a good indication of whether there is sufficient room for the teeth to come in properly. If not, and one or more teeth look to be impacted (wedged in), the likely recommendation will be to have the problematic tooth or teeth extracted. The sooner the impacted tooth is removed, the shallower its roots will be and the easier it will be to remove. On the other hand, if wisdom teeth do not affect function or appearance, they may be left in place. At PLATTE VALLEY DENTAL CLINIC, our experienced dental and support staff takes pride in providing the most comprehensive care possible for all members of your family in a relaxed, comfortable setting. When you come to visit us at 3915 N. 4th Ave., you can expect us to integrate the newest dental techniques with an educational approach to oral health. Call us at 308.234.2828 for an appointment. P.S. Partially erupted wisdom teeth can be quite difficult to clean and may pose a potential infection risk.
