Williams Ironmongers has been servicing Huddersfield Town centre for over 63years.It started life upstairs in the old Queensgate Market Hall back in 1948,which must make it one of the oldest shops in town. It moved into the New market in 1970. Richard is the third owner in 63 years, buying Williams 6 years ago. He says it’s still a very busy shop, but back then before all the pound shops and big supermarkets and large high street chains opened there was 14 people working here. Today there is just himself and Lem, Darren & Saturday help who still make a great team. It’s a good job because we would never be able to remember all the huge range of products we sell. So if you need anything or if you need a bit of help or advise come and ask ,you will be surprised at what we sell and if we haven’t got it we will try our best to get it for you. HORNERS JEWELLERS A retail jewellery business, originally established in 1934, and now in its 77th year. The owner who started the retailer in 1934 in Cloth Hall Street was a Mr Dawkins. He had the shop until the late 1940s when he retired. The business then passed into the hands of Arthur Horner, who changed the company name to A Horner Ltd in 1955. When he retired ownership passed to Mr Gordon Beaumont. Current owners Janet and Malcolm Illingworth acquired Horners in 1986 after 27 years with the Beaumont Ashton jewellers in New Street, Huddersfield.
