AN EXAMINER ADVERTISING SUPPLEMENT

2008

Summer Weddings 2008 Planning ahead for a great summer weddingl SUMMER can be a fabulous time to get married. Always the most popular time to get married, a summer wedding is organised to hopefully take advantage of some warm sunny weather. Unfortunately the English weather can’t be relied upon and couples should never bank on the wedding day being bathed in glorious sunshine. However we English are a resilient breed and always plan to cater for all weather eventualities. For example, if you’re thinking of having an outdoor reception with a barbecue etc, always make sure there is ample room for people to also sit indoors if necessary. As well as the reception, there is always loads to organise for a wedding so here goes! So, you think you are prepared and organised for the wedding of your dreams. Use our definitive checklist to make sure absolutely everything practical has been taken care of beforehand so you can enjoy the most important day of your life worry free!

Have you? Agreed on a budget with your family and partner? A budget must be realistic so it is best to be aware of any hidden costs, for example, does the photographer's fee include the prints or will that be extra. It is also best to decide who is paying for what and if family are helping out, let them pay for less contentious items, as if they pay for it, they may feel as though they would like to have an element of control. Booked the church or registry office? If the location is a newly licensed venue, you will need to provisionally book the registrar, but you must confirm with them three months before the wedding date. You'll also have to meet and confirm arrangements with the minister to discuss the service, any readings and your choice of music Booked your wedding cars, photographer and video company? Make sure you choose a reputable company

rather than just the cheapest quote that comes in. Your wedding photographs and video will prove to be priceless and a reputable car company will be very useful in getting you to the church in time! Compiled your wedding guest list, consulting both families? Chosen the best man, ushers, bridesmaids and pageboys? Start looking for the wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses. If you plan to have them made book a designer at least four months ahead of the wedding. Arrange the hire of any formal wear for the groom, best man, ushers and the fathers. Choose your presents for the best man, ushers, bridesmaids and mothers. Booked and confirmed the reception venue and caterers? Investigate and arrange the entertainment for the reception. Advise caterers or receptions of the final guest numbers in writing two weeks before the wedding. Order your wedding cake and check with the reception venue if you will need to supply a cake stand and knife. Booked and confirmed the honeymoon plans? Finalise your honeymoon plans and check for any visas or vaccinations that may be necessary. If the bride plans to change her name, have the passport name changed now so they are the same as the travel documents. This is easy enough to do and forms can be obtained from the Post Office.

THE photographs for this Summer Wedding supplement have been provided by Greaves (Photographers) Ltd of Union Bank Yard, off New Street, Huddersfield and feature the wedding of James and Louise Crowther, whose future home is in nearby Halifax. The wedding was held at The Tower House Hotel in Halifax and the outdoor photography features views over Sowerby Bridge. Pack your tickets, local currency, travellers cheques and passports. Then send the case for your honeymoon to your overnight hotel so you don't need to worry about it. Considered taking out wedding insurance? Not just in case one of you is left stranded at the aisle, but because a family emergency, illness or even a natural disaster could leave you with a delayed wedding and a stack of bills to pay for. Wedding insurance also covers other, more minor disastrous eventualities like your dog eating your wedding dress and the best man losing the rings. Ordered your wedding stationary such as invitations (day and evening), orders of service and place cards? Send out your wedding invitations at least six weeks before the wedding. Place your wedding list with the stores of your choice and have it ready for people who ask for it.

Arrive in style and make an entrance on your special wedding day WHEN the big day finally arrives it certainly calls for a grand entrance. You need to travel in comfort, perhaps even luxury, but most definitely in style! Thankfully there is a wide range of both traditional and modern vehicles that can get you to the church on time (or even fashionably late). There are a few familiar names synonymous with wedding transport and they can suit a variety of pockets and preferences. The Rolls Royce remains the classic transportation to provide that vintage look and feel to a wedding. An ever popular choice with brides to be. If you are planning a summer wedding then you could think about a convertible model to give you the option of staying cool with the top down. More modern saloon versions of the Rolls are also wedding favourites, allow-

ing you to feel like royalty as you're chauffeur driven in the famous Spirit, Shadow or Cloud models. There are many other classy motors available to whisk you off to your unforgettable ceremony - the Daimler, Bentley, Austin, Jaguar and Mercedes can also provide all the luxury and fabulous style you require. Perhaps you want to make your grand entrance in the height of New York cool? If so, a white, super-stretched limousine is the only way to travel. But the ultimate transport for the ultimate fairytale wedding would have to be a horse drawn carriage. Just imagine arriving at the ceremony in a jet black carriage led by two fabulous white horses. Does it get any better than that? But before you go off and book the most extravagant transportation you can find, it is a good idea to enquire into any

special hire deals that different firms may offer. Most companies will offer off-peak rates but major savings can be gained through package deals (usually for the hire of three or more cars) or late deals, perfect if your wedding is within the next couple of months. Also check to see what is included in the price - do you get a chauffeur, is the vehicle decorated, will there be any extras like flowers or champagne, and how long is the vehicle available for? In the end though, you should feel free to go your own way. Turn up in a mini, by bicycle or even by parachute if it makes you happy. It may seem the stuff of Hollywood romantic comedy movies but what's wrong with that? Just remember, it's your day and you should feel free to enjoy it however you like.

Capture those special wedding memories for ever YOUR wedding day will pass in a flash, but after the confetti has settled and your dress is packed away, it's nice to be able to look back on your special day - which is where the wedding photographer comes in. The aim of the photographer is to provide you with an album that you will treasure for years to come and to capture all the highlights of the day, as well as those little touching details. Therefore, choosing a wedding photographer is a really important decision to make. You need to find the right wedding photographer to suit your style of wedding and your personalities. They must be highly skilled - not only must they be experts in composition, they must be able to capture every aspect of the day and put you at ease, as well as being able to organise your guests. It's always advisable to visit a few photographers face to face and look at their portfolios to compare styles and quality. The best way to find them is via word of mouth, at wedding fairs, in bridal magazines, hotels and local newspapers. Look for a specialist with a good reputation. Always arrange a pre-wedding meeting so you can run through your arrangements and decide on the style you want. at the area’s only The basic album will 4 star wedding venue include the groom and best man outside the church or civil venue, the bride and father walking down the aisle, the bide and groom at the altar, the exchange of rings, the signing of the register, group shots outside the church, leaving the church, arriving at the reception and cutting the cake. If you require additional shots you must request them AINLEY TOP, HUDDERSFIELD beforehand - however, a good photographer will always be on hand to capture those Contact our dedicated wedding spontaneous moments which co-ordinator on 01422 314005 make each wedding so indi-

vidual and special. It’s always advisable to discuss photography with your wedding venues, for instance, some churches won't allow flash so your photographer needs to know this. There are lots of different styles of wedding photos for example, traditionally romantic soft-focus shots or the more modern 'reportage' - a fly on the wall style which catches the impromptu moments of the wedding - such as the bride getting ready with her bridesmaids or the groom having a giggle with his best man. Black and white shots are very stylish, offering atmospheric contrasts of dark and light. There is also grainy sepia - and hand tinting - a lovely technique where you may have a black and white photo with something picked out in colour, like a red bouquet. One of the main worries for the wedding couple is the weather. However, even if it is raining cats and dogs, lots of photographers have tricks up their sleeves - especially with today's digital wizardry. Many photographers are now using digital cameras with storage cards that record images which can be downloaded to a laptop computer and transferred to a floppy disk or CD Rom. Digital images are of very high quality and can be enhanced - for example, the photographer could take a picture of the bride and groom and put a background of pretty flowers behind them. Or they can clean up any blemishes. You can also create a website of your wedding pics or email them to friends who couldn't be at the wedding. The earlier you book your photographer the better - at least six to 12 months before the wedding. Remember you get what you pay for. High quality photographs are a worthwhile investment so don't skimp. You should be prepared to spend 10% of your wedding budget on photographs. Always make sure your photographer is insured and has back-up cameras in case the original doesn't work. For peace of mind, insist on a signed contract.
