Raw materials

The natural challenge In a good bed you should not only sleep well but also feel comfortable in every way. Human beings are a part of nature. That’s why we feel best in a natural environment. Whether wood, wool or natural latex – a Hüsler Nest is made exclusively of natural materials. Your skin knows the difference and responds positively to a healthy, environmentally compatible bed. The raw materials for our textiles come from sustainable production – out of respect for nature and the nature of people. We know our suppliers. They place the same high demands

on themselves that we do. Our work would be much easier if we weren’t committed to working only with natural products. Industrially produced raw materials are ordered and processed quickly. Natural products, however, depend on production cycles and harvest yields. Nature challenges us every day. It cannot be standardised. It teaches us humility. However, we feel this challenge also enriches our lives – and our success confirms our approach.

Raw materials

Natural latex

Sheep’s wool

MicroModal®

Cotton

Natural latex

MicroModal®

Latex is produced from the rubber tree. This tree is a member of the spurge family and is originally from South America. Latex is bacteriostatic and does not require any chemical treatment. It also provides for a good thermal balance and repels moisture.

MicroModal® is made from beech wood grown in sustainably managed forests. The very small diameter of its fibres makes MicroModal® incredibly light, and it’s regarded as the soft est fibre in the world. Because MicroModal® is so supple and kind to the skin, it is used in the manufacture of underwear as well as our Hüsler Nest quilts. This soft , silky material will ensure you have a comfortable, good night’s sleep.

Sheep’s wool Virgin sheep’s wool has natural thermoregulating properties. Wool fibres can store up to 33% of their dry weight in moisture, while the surface of the fibre repels water. In contrast to synthetic fibres, wool does not easily absorb smells or dirt and it is naturally self-cleaning. After just a short period of airing, wool will smell neutral and fresh again.

6

Cotton Cotton is gentle, breathable and washable. It absorbs up to 65% of its own weight in water. Cotton is therefore an ideal material from which to make the covers and cases for our quilts, pillows and overlays. We only use cotton that is processed in an ecologically friendly manner, so you can rest in comfort knowing that care was taken to protect the environment.

Raw materials

Maize fibres

Tencel®

Linen

Camel hair

Maize fibres

Linen

Maize originated in Mexico and offers many advantages as a textile. We use maize fibres in combination with Tencel® to fill quilts, pillow covers and overlays. It is fluff y and heat-insulating and is a washable alternative for people who suffer from allergies. Maize fibre is produced from renewable resources.

At the end of the 19th century, linen had largely been replaced by cotton in the textile industry. During the 20th century, however, linen regained its importance as a natural, ecological fibre. The fibres are made from the stalks of flax plants. Linen keeps you comfortably cool and is ideally suited for use as a quilt during the summer months.

Tencel® We also use Tencel® fibres in our quilts, pillows and overlays. Tencel® fibres are ecologically produced out of pure cellulose from eucalyptus trees. The fibres have outstanding properties. They are soft as silk, strong as polyester, cool like linen, warm like sheep’s wool and more absorbent than cotton.

Camel hair We also offer a quilt made from camel hair. The downy fur of the camel has outstanding temperature-regulating properties, as it is adapted to the large fluctuations in temperature encountered in the desert. It keeps you cool in the summer, and warm in the winter. Camel hair is softer than sheep's wool and can absorb even more moisture.

HüslerProducts Nest Rohstoffe

Feel totally at home From a purely functional point of view, skin is the most versatile organ of the human body. It forms the boundary between the inner body and the outer world. Its many receptors communicate information directly to us about temperature and the texture of different materials and objects. Although the skin is very durable and resistant, it can be irritated or have allergic reactions to certain substances. Did you know that healthy sleep requires more than just the right choice of sleeping system?

When you retire to bed you should be comfortable and have a feeling of well-being in every respect. That’s why we use only natural materials that are kind to the skin when making our quilts, pillows and overlays. They help create a sleeping environment in your Hüsler Nest where you can feel totally at home.

Overlays

Stay comfortable and dry – even when it’s hot We promise you will stay dry and the temperature in your bed will not fluctuate. Since a sleeper loses between three and seven decilitres of sweat per night, this is not an easy task. When you sweat, you may throw off your blanket, cool off too much and then wake up as a consequence. The Hüsler Nest overlay, which is placed on the mattress separately, prevents

this. It lets moisture dissipate quickly. We use only natural, breathable materials for our overlays, including 100% virgin sheep’s wool from Switzerland and a combination of Tencel® and maize. With our natural overlays, you can enjoy your night in hygienically dry sleeping conditions – free from overheating, moisture accumulation and cold spells.

The “classic” overlay

Overlays

Woollen overlay

The “classic” overlay When Balthasar Hüsler developed the first Hüsler Nest, he redefined the concept of “bed”. For comfortable sleep throughout the night, many components play a role and must be perfectly attuned. Every component is significant and nothing is left to chance. The Liforma unit has a support function. The mattress ensures that you can lie comfortably. The overlay provides for dry sleeping conditions. The first overlay developed by Balthasar Hüsler is referred to today as the “classic” overlay. It is made of 100% natural virgin sheep’s wool and has a cover made of breathable tricot and calicot cotton. It is part of the history of Hüsler Nest.

18

Description

The top is made of cotton tricot (jersey), and the bottom of calicot cotton. Frame point quilting holds the fluff y woollen fleece in place. It has four elastic bands for easy attachment. It is filled with fluff y woollen fleece made of 100% natural, untreated Swiss sheep’s wool, washed without bleach. The overlay comes in two versions: “Solo”, 600 g/m2 and “Duo”, 1,200 g/m2. Pillows

It’s all in the head The world belongs to those who are well-rested. Sleeping on the right pillow lets you wake up in the morning feeling rested and ready to start your day full of energy. When you’re falling asleep you shouldn’t have to think about your pillow. Your pillow should support your head in such a way that you are barely aware of

it and just feel naturally comfortable. Some prefer a pillow that’s a little harder, and others prefer a softer pillow. Some like it cuddly and others firm. There is no right or wrong. We offer a comprehensive range of pillows to suit every need. Let us advise you, and test our range of pillows for yourself.
