Magical Iceland by Daniel Vine

Daniel Viñé García

4

My name is Daniel Viñé García. I am a self-taught photographer, specialized in travel and landscape photography, born in Valladolid, Spain. Because where I live there is hardly any nature, whenever I can I take the opportunity to make a getaway or travel, and precisely that love of moving led me to get started in photography. For a few years now I’ve been traveling around the world or the surroundings where I live, camera in hand, discovering incredible places in moments no less incredible, in which sometimes, being alone makes it unforgettable. I love landscape photography in all its varieties, mountain, coast, forest, desert, I usually take advantage of sunrise and sunset to take my photos, sometimes also at night.

If I go to visit a city I also like to photograph it, there are always beautiful corners!I use a Sony a7riii camera and currently I have Laowa 12mm, Sony 16-35 f4, Sony 24-105 and Sigma 100-400 lenses, I use a sturdy Rollei tripod and a FLM head. When my partner and I planned our big summer photography trip in 2021 there were many parts of the world we couldn’t go to but living in Europe, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go to Iceland. There we had the opportunity to see its volcano Fagradalsfjall and the Highlands (you can only visit them in summer). Here is a great selection of some of the things my eyes saw:

One of the must-see sites I had to see was the Aldeyjarfoss waterfall, located north of the island and completely surrounded by basalt columns. Although this place looks much better in winter with snow and ice, I had to try to do something, after much research I decided to take this cave with my camera to give a little twist to the typical composition of the place.

When we were in the Highlands of Iceland, one of the things we liked the most was to explore and stop at all the cool places we saw. And that’s because everything there was attractive!!! That’s how we discovered this beautiful green mountain with those amazing mosses.

Seeing the Fagradalsfjall volcano was a truly amazing experience, I would say one of the best of my life. Seeing the lava close to you and from a drone view was simply magical, here is a small detail. 8

This waterfall is one of those places where you realize how small we are. A place that I remembered perfectly from the movie Prometheus and I was not disappointed at all, plus the sky was on our side and was completely dramatic. 9

On the way back from visiting the Maelifell volcano, the clouds picked up some color. We were caught in the middle of nowhere, but luckily we were in the Highlands of Iceland and everything is beautiful there!!! I just had to lift my drone and make a great panorama.

Enchanting Landscapes from

Meghalaya India by Sandeep Mathur

Wei Saw Dong Waterfall Is there anything more wondrous than a mighty waterfall diving off a lofty cliff. Add to that a three-tiered cascade and what you have is arguably one of the most spectacular waterfalls in India. To get to the falls, one needs to trek through a 200-m stretch, most of which is almost at a vertical angle. To help with the difficult part of the trek the locals have put up makeshift (and rather unstable) bamboo ladders against the mountain rock. Here, you have to climb down one person at a time and watch your steps as the ladder is muddy and greasy. One wrong step could lead to the end of your Meghalaya trip! However, the hard trek will all seem worthwhile when you set your eyes on the three-step roaring waterfall awaiting you at the bottom of the mountain. A sense of accomplishment will fill you when you catch the serenity of nature and the wilderness of the falls. Climbing up can get your heart racing, but it’s surprisingly easier than getting down. 12

Of course the dynamic range was huge so a struggle. The view from inside the cavern looked like an eye and hence the name of this image.

Nohkalikai Falls is the tallest plunge waterfall in India, at a height of 340 metres (1,115 ft). The waterfall is located in the Indian state of Meghalaya. Below the falls lies a plunge pool with water of an unusual shade of green.

Nohkalikai, which means “the leap of Likai” in the local Khasi language, is associated with a shocking, sad story.

Special Feature Garden of Eden I have no idea what the Garden of Eden looked like, but can’t imagine it to be much different. In reality, this place is aptly named the Garden of Caves. It is said that this was once the favourite hideout of the local Chieftain when in battle against the British colonizers.

The Cosmic Church We had only a small window. We saw the fog rolling in and soon it would be impossible to get the shot. Working fast, I took one frame for the foreground and one frame for the highlights. Tilted the camera up for the MW shot and reeled off 9 shots (the maximum for a self timer on my Nikons) for the Sky. Sky shot was merged in Sequator then Photoshop was used to bring it all together. Cropped in a 4 x 5 format.

Special Feature Milky Way over Dandeon River Sunset was followed by a dense cloud cover and that put on hold all our plans to shoot the Milky Way that night. But we waited … waited in the middle of the River Dainthlen for the clouds to pass. Eventually the skies opened up, and, although I could not use the original composition I had set up as the Milky Way had moved significantly by then, I was not too disappointed with this new hastily put up composition with the trees in the frame.

My name is Hugo Valle Perez, an amateur photographer from Asturias, Spain. I started in photography a few years ago thanks to a small camera that they gave me and with the passage I was left with this hobby as almost unique. After trying various disciplines in my early days, in the end the one that filled me the most was the landscape that, combined with my travels, occupies a large part of my time. Currently my equipment is quite simple, a Nikon D850 accompanied by three basic lenses, a 14-24, a 24-70 and a 70-200 and a set of neutral filters, gradients and a polarizer. For some time I have also added a drone to my team for certain shots.

When it comes to taking a photograph, I divide it into three parts, equally important to me and in rlation to each other, and they are planning, taking and editing. Perhaps the most personal touch that I apply to my photos is together with the composition, the edition where I try to focus on American arists and the one who is closer to Enrico Fosati. Perhaps my favorite place is the Asturian coast because it is what I know best, but I still have so manplaces to visit that I could not say one in particular today. To this day I continue with the illusion of being able to travel to Antarctica as soon as this situation caused by the virus subsides and we can live normally again.

My name is Wendy Klein and I live in Brisbane, Australia. I have always had an interest in photography. My photograph journey started almost five years ago when I decided I would like to learn photography. Photography and travel is truly my passion. Some say I am obsessed but it is a passion that burns strong within my soul.I love photographing sunrises and sunsets and I have a real love for long exposures with fast moving clouds. My favorite thing to photograph is long exposures. My images are testimonies of the landscape and seascape shots as I see them. I like to portray the landscapes as they speak to me. Photography gives me a sense of fulfilment and I hope my audience appreciate my work of art.

28

My name is Thomas de Franzoni, I am an Italian fine art photographer based in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy. I approached photography thanks to my passion for nature and wild animals. After a period dedicated to nature photography, thanks also to my passion for travel, I became more and more interested in landscape photography. I love mainly the landscapes of the Dolomites, the mountain lakes framed by autumn colors, the sinuous hills of Tuscany, the woodlands covered by fog and the picturesque churches of Slovenia.

Photography is my passion and part of my life. I am constantly trying to improve and understand the world of photography even better. I am an outdoor type of person and I am spending most of my leisure activities in nature. I consider myself a landscape photographer, searching for those special moments that transmit emotions to me. I love to compose my shots in a minimalism way. My main goal is to get simple compositions but in a very atmospheric and moody situation. When I succeed, I am very satisfied. Usually I take few photos when I am on the field; I just scout the area and wait for the right moment. When I sit in front of my PC, I already know what to do with post processing because previously I visualized the ended photo. The picture that has a particular mood and a story behind is what I love most. 29

Pedro Quintela

Pedro Quintela is a photographer based in Portugal, whose professional life is divided between education, business and photography. He also writes about it in some blogs. All started about 7 years ago, as a balsam for the daily stress and to fill a need for personal achievement at an artistic level. Quite soon he realized that Photography was more than shooting a scene. There were far more behind a still than just a click. So, Pedro Quintela, started to search for as much information as possible on the technical side of it. Education is must have to understand how things are done properly. He believes that with a solid basis, the

process will be much less invasive and creativity will flow easily because you’re not struggling how to get something on the frame. From then on he started to maximize his spare time to cover all the bases from this way of seeing life. Education, research, traveling, meeting other fellow shooters, all started to get sense on his mind and soul. Quintela’s work is generally done around landscape and storytelling. He created a personal workflow that try to give a personal look to his images. Currently he’s also dedicated some time to create digital content for the social media platforms. He loves to edit his images on Lightroom and Photoshop. It’s a special part of the creative process. © Pedro Quintela

Csilla Zelkó EFIAP-gold photography artist, amateur photographer from Budapest, Hungary. Since my childhood I have been interested in arts and I’ve always felt the need for poetry, beauty and visual expression. I like travelling, getting to know more about various cultures, learning about human fate and discovering the beauties of nature. What I like in photography that I can express my feelings, capture the fate of people, tell an entire story, point out the beauty of nature or the beauty of a human creation. It’s always great to meet everyday village people, they’re always very kind and sincere and opened. I’ve found out that there are more possibilities hidden in black-and-white imagery, allows putting individual features in the spotlight, captures the essence and it has a stronger representation of abstraction.

Jenny Cameron

48

My name is Jenny Cameron - I’m a British fine art photographer known for my unique evocative style- Based in the Scottish Highlands. Specialising in Landscape and Equine Fine Art Photography. In 2010 I mentally spiralled into a very dark place. However, a few years later I found something to brighten my soultaking nature photos with a basic point and shoot camera around my local area- This fast became my best medicine and how I fell in love with photography. Finally took the plunge and purchased my first Canon DSLR in October 2015. My heart has always been in landscape, especially the Scottish mountains which heavily inspire me but recently my increasing passion is Equine fine art. I enjoy the bonds I build with each of the horses, my aim being that it reflects in the final image for the viewer to enjoy. Also, I enjoy night-photography.

I’m very lucky living where there are great dark-skies and Auroras are common throughout the winter months. Preparation is key for any shoot- Location planning right through to the creative post-processing is something I very much enjoy. I use the PhotoPills App to help with planning of say the sun, moon or milky way position. Post processing starts in Lightroom for basic edits then exported into Photoshop for the majority of the work, which can take anything from five minutes to several days as I annoyingly procrastinate so much. I’ve had many local and international successes over the years- Including American, English and Scottish art exhibitions, front cover publication of the prestigious Scottish Field magazine- Also several other global photography magazine publications and became Ambassador to Haida filter and YouPic. 49

My name is Ludwig Riml. I am a passionate travel and landscape photographer. I was born in a small village in the Austrian Alps but have been living in Sweden for many years now. My first camera was a Russian Zenit. I was 16 when I swapped it for a pair of skis at a slalom competition in Poland. Since then I have been photographing more or less during my whole life. I also had a darkroom where I would spend many nights when the kids were in bed and my wife asleep. I always shoot in Raw and do my post processing work in Lightroom, Photoshop and third party filters like Nik software, Topaz and sometimes Luminar. I use Tony Kuipers TK panel for precise masking to make local adjustments in my work.

My name is Ramón Morcillo, my passion is photography, although I really enjoy doing landscape, city, social, macro, ... what really makes me enjoy the most is doing them at night, when the skies are darker and when the stars dominate. the firmament, that’s when I feel truly fulfilled, I was born in Cieza (Murcia) in the southeast of Spain. Photography added to travel is something that I am passionate about and whenever I have a chance I run away with my team to do what I like the most. Spain, with the exception of artificial lighting in large cities, we have many areas and fantastic places to do night and star photography, in general, there is a large part of the night sky to enjoy full of celestial bodies in sometimes well-known corners of unparalleled beauty and many others yet to be discovered.

On the outskirts of the cities and in the darkest points, in Spain, we can find from a demolished period castle but with a special attraction, the most beautiful snow-covered mountain and one of the most attractive peaks surrounded by forest, to a beautiful reef and a centennial lighthouse on the magnificent coasts that surround our peninsula. When it comes to the Milky Way, which is what I usually practice, Spain is an exceptional place, but for colleagues who are dedicated to other, deeper disciplines, I have to say that we have very important observatories on the peninsula and the Canary Islands. . As for the best locations, they are many and varied throughout the Spanish geography but it is always essential to look for the most suitable area on pollution maps. Depending on the composition that we want to offer in that specific photograph, we can choose between sea, mountain, lake, etc. 61

My name is Rui Jorge Vieira Pinto, I’m 49 years old, married, with two daughters -(Elisabete with 21 and Joana with 15 years old). I’m from Portugal and I Iive in Setúbal city, situated around 50 Km south of Lisbon, Portugal’s capital. I work as a CFO (Chief Financial Officer) for an international group of Chemical Companies. This basically means that almost every week, from Monday to Friday I am fully occupied. In that way, photography has always been a continuous project to be experienced and enjoyed during the sparingly free time as it is becoming available. I can say, I’m a landscape photographer so mainly my choices goes towards the nature photography although urban area photography also appeals strongly to me, and as a landscape photographer, the type of photos that I like the most are the Long Exposure photos, with the use of Neutral Density filters.

Featured Photographer Ocean Coast: This is at the “Abano” beach, Portuguese oceanic Coast on the North of Lisbon, close to Cascais city. The sensation of depth is quite present on this photo, due to the effect of the long exposure on the clouds, running to the horizon line.

The Boat: This is in the industrial area of Setúbal city. An old boat used in the past to transport people from Setúbal city to Troia peninsula through the Sado River, that was left abandoned. The use of the Long Exposure on the sky gives us the sensation of an old boat that was reborn from the sea.

It is one of the most famous monuments in Portugal, it was built in the 16th century on the period of discoveries. The movement of the clouds on the direction of the tower, give us the idea that the tower is moving, floating on the Tejo river.

Featured Photographer The Guggenheim This is the Guggenheim Museum at Bilbao city in Spain. The architecture of this building is unique and a bless for a landscape photographer. The long exposure gives us the sensation that the museum is almost floating between the water and the sky.

The mountain The iconic mountain of Kirkjufell in Iceland. This photo was shooted after the Sunrise with a nice light. The ice, the clouds, the water, the rocks, the mountains, are the perfect elements for landscape photography.

First Light Hitting Mount Kanchenjunga and Breaking the Valley I visited Singalila National Park during November’20. During this trip, I camped in a place called Chandu (it is part of Singalila National Park, but from Nepal Side); from Chandu you can see Mount Kanchenjunga range along with Kumbhakarna range, Goekarna range, Kabru range.

Turbulence and Last Light I have worked for more than 12 years in Indonesia. During this period, I explored many parts of Indonesia. It was during July’19, I visited a place namely Gigi Hiu (Shark’s teeth in english) of South Sumatra Island. Once you reach there, you can immediately feel how appropriate the name of the location is.

Featured Photographer Serenity from Winterland It was during Dec’2020, I visited Kashmir and I planned to stay one night in Gulmarg. After reaching Gulmarg I almost feel like living in heaven! It was during sunset I tried to create a composition by keeping the Shiva temple in the foreground to the Pir Panjal range in the background.

Twilight Hour from Bromo It was during X-Mas holiday time in 2018, I visited Bromo-Semeru National Park of Eastern Java for the second time. It was my first trip with my camera, so I was very excited and reached the sunrise point almost 1 hour before sunrise. It was during the blue hour that I tried to portray the beauty of this volcanic range and to keep proof that people are actually hiking for sunrise in Semeru range (background mountain).

Born in Bari in the class of 77, I approached self-taught photography about 5 years ago Passionate about my land and its colors Puglia with its people full of life and traditions with its unique places always present in my shots. I developed a passion for photography by looking at some shots in National Geographic magazine and I was wondering how it was possible to obtain these results. Out of curiosity I bought my first reflex and a world opened up to me and it was love at first sight. Each photo is a particular moment, a sensation, a memory caught on the fly and you realize how important life events can be preserved through a photo. I have no doubt that photography itself is a great means of artistic expression. Stopping time is priceless and the only way to do it is through photos.

Abhijeet K Banerjee

I am from city of Kolkata in India. What began as a pass time hobby some years back is now a full-blown passion. Excelling in this wonderful art of Photography is my life’s goal. In my younger days, I used to fiddle with my father’s camera, an Agfa Click III and later a National 35. I used to click a frame or two. However, with time, I left the budding passion for more important things like studies and subsequently a career. Around 2016, while I was posted at Guwahati, I decided to pick up the latent passion I had for this art and that was the turning point. I started my photography journey with a Nikon D5300 camera and later upgraded to higher models. Professionally, I am into general management. Due to nature of my work, I travelled a lot in and around India and tried to capture the land, nature, people and their lives from the places I visited. I am mostly into Nature, Portraiture and Conceptual Photography. Sometimes I also delve into Travel and Street genre. Highpoint of my photography journey was when I won National Award, India, 2020 Sony World Photography Awards. This was followed by an award in prestigious D J Memorial Photography Contest 2020 here in India.

Fina León

My name is Fina León, I am passionate about landscape photography both dayand night, which fits perfectly with my other two hobbies, traveling and nature.Ever since I started I have not stopped training by attending workshops, photographic trips and everything that is related to it, to improve both the technique and the editing, and incidentally, live beautiful experiences and meeting wonderful people. I try to convey with my photography what I see and feel at that moment. The movement of the Clouds and the calm of the water seem like a good combination for landscape photography. It’s for that This is why I work on daytime landscape photographs with neutral density filters. I am one of those who think that almost everything in photography is invented, the only thing that can be innovative is given by the nuance of your own look, so I try to do personal work, both in the moment of capture as in editing.

I’m an IT professional based in Bangalore and also the brand mentor for Nisi and Vanguard India. When I’m not busy writing software, I’m out - riding, travelling and making images, almost obsessively. A self taught photographer since 10 years, my passion is creating fine art nature and travel imagery especially urbanscapes and seascapes. You’ll find most of my compositions with minimal human element which is my creative calling - exploring and establishing the often untold visual relationships between the inanimate elements of a scene. My vision is to create travel and landscape images that not just inspire the travel hunger in its audience but also to educate and sensitize them towards their own travel and photographic journey.

Hues & Pixels Photography Vol. 03 . Issue 04 Featured Photographer Sun and Key The majestic Key monastery from Spiti valley. I always had this frame in mind even if this has been shot many times.Hence, I deliberately chose to hike up in later afternoon when the sun lined up with the monastery. Now to render the sun as diffraction spikes (aka the sun star) was my attempt to render the scene uniquely. Himachal.

Singapore Days From a busy day in the downtown Singapore area as the Marina bay cityscape basks in the sun and clouds march over. Choice of slow shutter and monochrome conversion was almost onbious to me as I sought to capture the essence of the ciy in a unique manner. Singapore.
