He was delighted when one of his carers, Dan, said he would bring him along to watch HUFC versus his beloved Spurs. As you can see from the pictures, he thoroughly enjoyed himself. David loved the shirt he received which was signed by the U’s players.

Jonathan loves coming to the Pilot Field when he is not watching his other team, Hull City. Now he is a HUFC season ticket holder, which invariably means all other events need to be planned around the U’s matches!

Elaine’s dad, Donald Cornwall, was a big fan of HUFC from the 1950’s and would attend every home game. Elaine’s mum told her that they actually had to move their wedding day so that a match would not be missed!. Elaine was 3 months old when she was taken to her first match and apparently screamed all of the way through! Elaine came to matches with her Dad all through her childhood.

Elaine continued the tradition, and brought along her children Colin and Claire to the Pilot Field. On Saturday, Colin was delighted be be a mascot for a game. The family would view the match from the bank side of the ground.

Happy New Year to everyone as we are back in League action at The Continental Pilot Field.

I would like to firstly welcome the board, management, coaches, staff, players and supporters of Hornchurch who have been one of the standout teams this season.

Boxing Day was a great day here, not only is it always lovely to get 3 points off a Sussex rival but another bumper crowd with over 1,600 attending. The last time Lewes came to the Pilot Field on a Boxing Day 700 were in attendance, so it just shows how far this club has come.

Gary and his staff are really getting the best out of this squad, we are seven games unbeaten and today will be a real test, a test they are ready for.

So 2023, a new year, what does that bring? For Hastings United I hope it means we stay in Hastings, we continue to be competitive on the pitch and you never know could another promotion be on the cards? For me personally, I hope for more success and to keep pushing myself to achieve in the right environments both outside and inside football.

2022 was some year, let’s get off to a cracker today.

Afternoon everyone and Happy New Year!

Welcome to today’s match against Hornchurch FC. Hornchurch currently find themselves top of the league, and after 20 odd games that’s a significant position to be in. They’re the trailblazers of the league, with a talented group of players and a fantastic management team. Mark Stimson is someone that I’ve respected when playing against his sides or managing, and I’ve always admired how he has gone about his business.

In our previous encounter we came away with a 3-0 defeat, our biggest of the season so far, but I felt the scoreline didn’t reflect the game and we obviously went down to 10 men after 2 minutes.

I feel today will be a great marker to see where we stand as a side going into the second half of the season. Get behind the lads today, and here’s to hoping we can get smiles on faces.

GREEN? WHAT GREEN?

We didn't get any rub of it back on August 20th, our 3rd game early in the new season when we travelled to Hornchurch. Truly a day to forgetbefore I got to the Dartford Tunnel it was going belly up starting with the car letting me down, getting to the ground (having missed the first 20 minutes) to find us 2-0 down and a man short following the early dismissal of Finn O'Mara for handbal l on the goal line. The resulting penalty followed by a quality free kick saw U's on the back foot. And for all that they actually played plenty of decent football and were on top much of the second half but it was to be one of those days when nothing was to go right and Hornchurch duly rubbed our noses in it with a late third. 0-3 and the U's making an early visit to the bottom of the division. Things have improved considerably since then and let's see if we can get things to go our way in this return fixture with the league leaders.

TWO BIG SUSSEX TESTS

4 points from Lewes here and an away trip to West Sussex for Monday's highly entertaining 0-0 draw at Horsham who included Daniel Ajakaiye in their ranks. I thought Lewes were the best opposition we've faced this season. They were far more in our faces - I thought - than the Lewes we played at The Dripping Pan back on the summer bank holiday.

It's right what they say about things evening out over a season eh? Deflected free kick to get the 3 points from the Lewes game .........

- but credit where due, the U's should've grabbed a couple more. And Harry Kane's big miss being copied to a T when Horsham's Tom Kavanagh missed from the spot in the last minute on Tuesday.

Night shifts and away games rarely go well together so I listened to the Horsham game on Adam Carder's excellent radio channel.....

The highlights from an entertaining draw at Horsham are on YouTube. Said it before and I'll say it again - how things have moved on in the last few years when it comes to keeping up with semi-pro football. Special mention for the post match interviews with Gary and Louis.

Some great attendances in these grim times. United pulled in 1,677 for Lewes, there were 1,316 at Horsham on Tuesday, Lewes had 1,295 in for their New Year win over Bognor Regis and Folkestone demolished plummeting Margate in front of 1,179. And in Isthmian SE, 1st vs 2nd, Ramsgate Chatham saw 1,271 through the turnstiles to see Ramsgate open up a 6 point gap with a big big 1-0 win.

Bearing in mind the current grim times, semi-pro football is holding up pretty well. Let's hope it continues. And happy to hand out a pat on the back of whoever puts the Boxing Day and New Year fixtures together - plenty of good ol'fashioned local derbies.

Remember Jordy Mongoy who played here back in 2018-19? Wasn't here long but looked a decent prospect. Now way up North playing for Northern Premier Premier League leaders, South Shields. And look who got Wingate & Finchley's first goal in their surprise 2-0 win at Potters Bar - Ansu Janneh.

Football Web Pages - as close as you'll get to comprehensive semi pro football coverage - well, it is if you follow Isthmian or Northern Premier League affairs. All the stats you could want and you can be sure that U's followers studying their phones during games will quite likely be consulting FWP to see what's going on elsewhere in the Isthmian League.

But forget it if you're looking for Southern or National League updates. Ex Isthmian clubs who've gone up to National South will feature but generally speaking, clubs from those leaguesNational, National South / North and all the Southern leagues aren't interested in coverage by FWP. And FWP are as frustrated by this weird turned up nose attitude of those leagues as anyone as I found out on Twitter recently .......

Good old Twitter. Pick up some real gems on here. (Ben has offered to compensate Charlie for his lost refreshment)

So it's not for want of trying on FWP's part! Makes no sense at all. The site manages to just about get the scores from those leagues and that's about it. You can generally forget scorers and attendances because the clubs don't supply the stats.

NEW YEAR MATCH ROUND UP

Our leaders, Hornchurch, suffered a kick up the Urchins as they were hammered by second place Bishop’s Stortford on Boxing Day, but it looked as if they’d got back to winning ways against Carshalton Athletic last Monday - until the Robins found an equaliser with just four minutes left on the clock. Sam Higgins put away a flick on from Rickie Hayles to give hi s side a twenty sixth minute lead, but this season’s Athletic are made of stern stuff, and Femi Akinwande earned them a point just before the end. Lewwis Spence picked up a late red card, with 779 in attendance.

Bishop’s Stortford, with only one defeat from their previous ten matches, would have gone top had they won at Brightlingsea Regent - and, of course, they were favourites to do so, as Regent were wit hout a win since August Bank Holiday Monday. The hosts had other ideas, however, and ripped up the form book, a second-half double from Suleyman Zuhdu giving them an invaluable three points - and perhaps just as importantly the confidence to believe that they can build on this success. In between Zuhdu’s two goals Mark Haines was dismissed for the Blues, who slip to third. 406 watched.

Cray Wanderers welcomed second bottom side Herne Bay to Hayes Lane, and extended their unbeaten run to eight - and their winning run to four. Dan Bassett’s eleventh of the season gave the hosts a seventeenth minute lead, but Bay refused to lie down and remained in the match until the last ten minutes. Tom Derry, however, ended the contest with a second goal for the hosts nine minutes from time, and Jalen Jones made things comfortable by adding a third, three minutes from time. Bay are at the bottom, and have now taken only three points - all drawsfrom the last thirty three available.

Aveley welcomed Canvey Island to Parkside. The Millers had a three point and four place advantage over their visitors at kick off, but they were level on points and goal difference by the end, the Millers remaining in the top five only on goals scored . The only goal of the match went to Bradley Sach, the Gulls number nine moving on to twelve for the campaign - and the away fans amongst the 601 in attendance celebrated.

Potters Bar Town had a difficult end to 2022, having to contend with a change of manager and the departure of some of their established stars - and they had a difficult start to 2023, too. A goal in each half earned visitors Wingate & Finchle y the points at the Lantern Stadium, Ansu Janneh with the opener on fifteen minutes, Dernell Wynter’s fifth of the season after the break ensuring that the points went back to Summers Lane. The Blues open up a three point gap on the bottom four, whilst the Scholars slip to seventh.

Enfield Town returned to the top five with a hardfought win at Haringey Borough. The Towners have lost only one of their previous eight matches, and they went ahead on eighteen minutes at Coles Park, Josh Hill with the opener. The hosts remained in the match until five minutes from time, Adam Cunnington making it two, and although Scott Durojaiye got one back from the spot just before the end he then blotted his copybook by getting sent off. 801 watched on.

Horsham and Hastings United met in a Sussex derby, played in front of a crowd of 1,316. Neither side could manage a goal, although the hosts could have won it right at the end, a penalty miss denying them three points. Given that Hornets keeper Taylor Seymour had been far busier than his opposite number, United will undoubtedly feel they deserved at least a share of the spoils.

Bowers & Pitsea and Billericay Town also failed

to manage a goal between them in front of 704 at the Len Salmon. However, both sides did manage a heartfelt tribute to former Bowers goalkeeper Martyn Guest.

Lewes welcomed Bognor Regis Town to the Dripping Pan - and got revenge for their FA Trophy defeat to the same opponents six weeks ago with a three-one win. Joe Taylor opened the scoring from the spot after just six minutes, his eighteenth of the season, and midway through the half Ryan Gondoh made it two with his first Rooks goal. Midway through the second half Nathan Odokonyero took his tally for the season to eighteen when halving the arrears, but right before the end the Rooks sealed the win, another from Taylor delighting the majority of the 1,295 watching on.

Folkestone Invicta welcomed manager less Margate to the Build Kent Stadium, but weren’t very welcoming, hitting four goals without reply in front of a crowd of 1,179. Ian Gayle put them ahead after seven minutes, and eight minutes before the break a surging run from Nathan Green ended with a decent finish to make it two. Nine minutes after the restart any chance of a Margate comeback ended when Ian Draycott converted a Green cut back, and Ade Yusuff got his customary goal - making it twenty-three for the season - six minutes from time. That’s five wins from seven for Invicta, who are up to thirteenth - only six points away from the play-off’s.

Finally, we had a Kingston derby as Kingstonian welcomed Corinthian-Casuals to Tooting & Mitcham United. Both sides were in need of points, but only one side got any - and that was the visitors, who moved them selves to within a point of safety with a two-one win. Casuals had only one win from their previous twelve matches with the K’s, but they defeated that history with two quick goals just after the restart, Sam Dowridge and Ricardo Thompson with the onetwo. Joe Boachie got one back for the K’s just before the end, but there is now only one point between the sides - and the K’s have picked up only one point from the last twenty one.

VITA RISK SOLUTIONS MANAGER OF THE MONTH - DECEMBER 2022

We’re heading to Hayes Lane, where we honour Cray Wanderers boss Neil Smith. The turnaround in form at the Wands since Neil took the reins last season has been truly remarkable, and December saw him steer his side into the top five. It was an unbeaten month, with four wins and a draw from five matches and some scintillating performances - which saw th em score fifteen goals, so Wands fans are not only seeing their side pick up points, they are being royally entertained.

Once more, it’s the story of the Blues! Bishop’s Stortford had a fabulous December - an unbeaten month which saw them win three matches out of four and keep two clean sheets in the process. Jack Giddens has so many pairs of golden gloves that we suspect he could open his own shop, but now he has another set on their way, richly deserved. Many congratulations to Jack, and to his rather stingy defence.

BEST PERFORMANCE OF DECEMBER

On Boxing Day Pitching In Isthmian Premier leaders Hornchurch arrived at the R&D Advisors Stadium to take on their closest challengers, Bishop’s Stortford. The Urchins took an early lead through Liam Nash, and it appeared as if they would be strengthening their position at the top - but it turned out that the opposite was true. The Blues levelled just before the break, Ollie Peters with the goal - and in the second half the home side ran riot, crashing home three more goals to deliver an incredibly impressive four-one win and take our prize. Ryan Henshaw, Jonny Giles and Frankie Merrifield were their second half scorers, and the result took the Blues to within a point of their visitors.

Club: Hornchurch Football Club

Club Founded: 1923

Nickname: The Urchins

The club was formed in 1923 as Upminster Wanderers. They only played friendly matches for the first two seasons, joining in the Romford League in 1925, winning the Premier Division in 1930-31 and finishing runners up on three occasions. until in 1938 they stepped up to the Spartan League, and dropped the 'Wanderers' from their name as the original Upminster club had folded several years earlier.

When action resumed after the war Upminster, due to a shortage of players, returned to the Romford League for 1945-46, winning the title, as well as the Essex Junior Cup in front of a crowd of 4,000, before returning to the Spartan League. Promoted to the Spartan Premier Division in 1951, they joined the Delphian League a year later, changing their name to Hornchurch & Upminster as they prepared to move into the new Hornchurch Sports Stadium, in Bridge Avenue. They took up residence in November 1952 and have remained there ever since.

They were runners up in the Delphian League in 1959, and were elected to the Athenian League. They dropped the Upminster part of the name in 1960, becoming just Hornchurch FC although the ground is just inside the Upminster boundary. They won the Division One championship in 1967 but were relegated in 1969 and promoted back again in 1971.

1974/5 saw the club reach the Fifth Round of the very first FA Vase competition where they lost 1-0 to eventual finalists Epsom & Ewell. That performance helped the club gain election to the Isthmian League. In 1978, the club once again suffered relegation but three years later they were back after achieving the runners-up slot. It was a false dawn, to say the least. Apart from a tenth-place finish in 1995, it would be 19 years before they again finished in the top half of their table. They survived several brushes with relegation before losing their Division One place in 1986 and

continued to struggle in Division Two North. Matters became even worse in 1989 when a fire destroyed the clubhouse and it took many years to recover. Inevitably, Urchins found themselves in Division Three when the regionalised divisions were scrapped in 1991 and an appearance in the final of the Associate Members Cup — a competition for the bottom two divisions — in 1994 was a rare taste of success.

Mick Marsden was appointed manager in February 1998 and in his second season in charge of the club took them to fourth place. After that, 2000-01 was disappointing as far as league performances were concerned, but the team had an excellent run in the FA Vase before being knocked out by eventual finalists Berkhamsted in a replay.

Things changed dramatically as the club was taken over and restructured. Second place in Division 3 in 2002 brought promotion to Division 1N. and another runnersup spot followed in 2003 to take Urchins into the Premier Division for the first time. Much work was also done on the near derelict stadium, and under manager George Borg Hornchurch gained promotion to the new Conference South after finishing fifth in 2003-04, though the season was more noticeable for reaching the second round of the FA Cup. Darlington were beaten 2-0 in the first round, before Tranmere Rovers stole a controversial 1-0 win in front of TV cameras and a capacity crowd at Bridge Avenue.

The dream continued a little longer, as under the former Dagenham manager Garry Hill, the team stormed to the top of the Conference South. It seemed too good to be true and it was. On a grim Thursday in November, with Hornchurch top of the table and unbeaten in their last 16 matches, the entire squad, all full time, was released. They had reached the first round of the FA Cup before the collapse and the tie at Boston United was fulfilled by six debutants and a collection of youth team players. Hornchurch took an early lead and gave

a valiant show before going down 5-2. The season descended into chaos. Almost 100 players wore first team shirts as new manager Tony Choules contrived to avert relegation, despite a 10 point deduction. Indeed without it the club would have finished in a remarkable ninth place.

The club reformed under the name AFC Hornchurch and was placed by the FA in the Essex Senior league. Former youth team manager John Lawrence took charge in May 2005. They ran away with the championship and also won the league’s two cup competitions becoming the first side to achieve the treble.

Under former Thurrock manager Colin McBride, Hornchurch returned to the Isthmian League, and romped to a second successive title, unbeaten in their last 35 matches, and amassing 103 points to finish 21 points clear at the top. They also won the Essex Senior Cup for the first time in their history, beating Great Wakering 2-1 at Southend United. Success continued in the Premier Division the following season, finishing 4th to secure a play-off place but losing 3-1 in the semifinal at AFC Wimbledon in front of a crowd of 2,897.

The following season Hornchurch again entertained a Football League club, losing 1-0 to Peterborough United at a packed Bridge Avenue in the First Round of the FA Cup, the only goal coming in stoppage time. The league campaign ended in disappointment when they lost 2-1 at Sutton on the final day of the season, to finish sixth, just outside the play-offs.

Things were still not right off the field and manager Colin McBride took control of the club as chairman midway through the 2009-10 campaign in an effort to sort out the financial problems caused by the previous regime. His assistant Jimmy McFarlane took over team affairs, initially as caretaker. Urchins finished ninth in the league after being in and around the play-off places throughout the season. It was a similar story in 201011, when Urchins were unable to sustain their play-off bid and missed out by four points, finishing tenth. But the two Macs achieved their ambition the following season as Urchins recovered from three successive defeats in August to storm into play-off contention. They eventually had to settle for the runners-up spot behind Billericay. Bury were beaten 3-1 in the play-off semi-final, and, in a tense final against Lowestoft, Hornchurch won 2-1 with Michael Spencer scoring the winner in the final minute of extra time.

The return to the Conference South began with a brief flirtation with the play-off spots, but six dropped points to bottom club Truro proved decisive as Urchins finished 20th, two points short of safety. A second Essex Senior Cup triumph, coming from behind to beat Grays Athletic 2-1 in the final at Dagenham, provided some consolation. Back in the Isthmian League, Urchins

enjoyed a 15-match unbeaten run early in the 2013-14 season, Eventually finishing in fifth position, They won 1-0 at Kingstonian in the Play Off semi-final, but lost 3-0 at Lowestoft in the final, with four key men missing through injury or suspension, and others had to play while less than properly fit.

The following season started with high hopes but the club's landlords, the local council, closed the stadium to install new floodlights, forcing the first eight league games to be played away from home. Just one point came from those matches and left Urchins facing a season-long fight to avoid the drop. With six weeks to go they had finally lifted themselves out of the bottom four and looked on course for survival, only for form to desert the team completely as just two points came from the last ten games. Urchins had high hopes of regaining their Premier status quickly but it was not to be, as they lost the 2016 Play-off final to Harlow Town and the 2017 semi-final to Thurrock. However it was third time lucky when in season 2017-18 they won Isthmian North by 13 points, amassing 103 goals in total with a goal difference of plus 62.

The Urchins started life back in the Premier Division quite well but fell away, and in November long serving manager Jimmy McFarlane stood down. In his place the club appointed Mark Stimson. A final position of 19th was obtained. The club reached the final of the League Cup but were beaten 2-0 by Enfield Town. They also reached the Semi-final of the Essex Senior Cup, losing 3-1 to Chelmsford City.

Hornchurch dropped the AFC part of their name for the 2019-20 season, and were well set for a play-off place when the season came to a premature end. Season 2021-22 turned out to be the greatest in the history of the club, When the season again came to a premature end in November the Club was still in the FA Trophy and with the Football Association making the decision to complete the competition, be it behind closed doors the Club was able to continue. At first, as they were considered non-elite which meant they were not allowed to train. As Hornchurch progressed the Club were granted elite status and thus resumed training. Having defeated Bowers & Pitsea and Wingate & Finchley in early rounds Hornchurch went on to defeat six clubs higher up the pyramid to make it to Wembley, where they came back from a goal down at half time to win 3-1 against Hereford. This gave manager Mark Stimson his fourth success in the Trophy to go with his winners' medal as a player.

A poor start to the 2021-22 season was offset by an incredible unbeaten three-month run, which ensured them of a Play Off place, but they lost to Cheshunt in the final before their first ever capacity crowd for a league match.

PLAYER PEN PICTURES HORNCHURCH FC

ELLIS BROWN (Defender /Midfield) Ellis was with Charlton Academy for ten years, at the end of which he signed a one year pro-contract at Southend Utd, later playing for Dartford, Witham, East Thurrock and Tonbridge. He played for Merstham in 2015, and returned in 2019, having played for Phoenix, Thamesmead, Dover, Thurrock and Waltham Abbey in the interim. He set the seal on our Wembley win when he scored the third goal in the 5th minute of added time.

JOE CHRISTOU (Midfield) Joe made 15 appearances in his initial season at Hornchurch, before moving to Thurrock where he made 131 appearances, scoring 19 goals. After a brief spell at East Thurrock United he joined Mark Stimson at Waltham Abbey at the start of the 2018-19 season, but missed four months of the season due to injury He returned to Hornchurch In November 2018. He has also played in goal, standing in for two matches last season.

JORDAN CLARK (Defender/Midfield) Jordan spent six seasons at Thurrock, where he scored thirty goals in 152 appearances. With the unfortunate demise of Thurrock at the end of the season, manager Jim McFarlane quickly signed him for Hornchurch. Jordan played his 100th match for Hornchurch in our FA Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium.

KENNY CLARK (Defender) Kenny began his career at Dagenham & Redbridge as a youth team player, and following his release in 2006 he joined Thurrock, going on to become the captain in a four-year spell at Ship Lane. He signed for Chelmsford City in 2011. After two seasons with Chelmsford, he signed for Dartford before making the switch into the National League with Ebbsfleet United in 2014. He went on to make over 200 appearances for the Fleet. Clark returned to Dagenham in 2018, and finished last season on loan at Southend United.

NATHAN BERTRAM-COOPER (Defender) Nathan joined Hornchurch in 2015 from Romford and made his 100th appearance for Hornchurch in the FA Trophy replay against Thamesmead Town on 10th October 2017. He was club captain, but missed the majority of the 2018 season after sustaining an injury in October, and did not play again until August 2019. When the

2019 season was curtailed in November, Nathan joined Hemel Hempstead on dual registration, scoring two goals in nine appearances, before their season was also curtailed, He returned to Hornchurch to take his place in the squad for FA Trophy matches. He joined Braintree Town at the start of the 2021 season, and returned to Hornchurch in January 2022, making his 200th appearance at Potters Bar in March.

RICKIE HAYLES (Defender) Rickie first played for Hornchurch in 2010, and quickly became a regular in the first team, making 167 appearances, before leaving at the end of the 2013-14 season. He returned to Hornchurch in August 2019, having played for Lowestoft, East Thurrock, Bishop’s Stortford, Welling Utd, Billericay Town and Dulwich Hamlet in the interim. He again became an automatic choice, but was injured at Folkestone in January 2020 and did not play again until September. Rickie, as joint captain, raised the FA Trophy at Wembley.

SAM HIGGINS (Forward) Sam first played for Hornchurch in 2008, but left to join Brentwood, briefly returning the following season. He later joined East Thurrock where he went on to score a record 275 goals. He returned to Hornchurch for the third time in 2020, and despite being absent due to injury for some months, he played a massive contribution in our FA Trophy victory, and scored a remarkable goal in our Play Off semi-final at Enfield Town.

TOBI JOSEPH (Midfield) In his first spell at Hornchurch Tobi made over 100 appearances, scoring 21 goals, despite missing over twelve months due to a badly broken leg. He joined Canvey Island in 2019 and was a regular in their first team, before moving to East Thurrock in the summer of 2021, returning to Hornchurch in December.

LAMAR JOSEPH-JOHNSON (Goalkeeper) After playing at youth level for Charlton Athletic, Lamar, a goalkeeper, had a number of clubs, including Canvey Island, Grays Athletic and Aveley, during which he twice played at full international level for Santa Lucia. His most recent club was Walthamstow.

OLLIE  MULDOON (Midfield) Ollie spent four seasons at Charlton, later playing for Braintree Town, Dagenham & Redbridge, Gillingham, Maidstone United and Chelmsford City. He quickly established himself in the starting line-up, and his wealth of experience has proved invaluable.

JACK MUNNS (Midfield) Jack played at youth level for Leyton Orient and Tottenham Hotspur, before spending two seasons at Charlton Athletic. He played in the Football League for Cheltenham Town and for Hartlepool United. He also played for Dagenham & Redbridge, Dover Athletic and Boreham Wood in the National League. In November 2021 he joined Billericay Town in the National South. He also had a brief loan spell at Aldershot whilst at Tottenham.

LIAM NASH (Forward) Liam previously played for Billericay, Aveley, Hemel Hempstead, Dartford and Concord Rangers, and also made 15 appearances in the Football League at Gillingham. He is better known for his one season at Maldon & Tiptree, where he scored 36 goals in 47 appearances in 2016-17. His transfer to Hornchurch was delayed as international clearance was difficult to obtain after he played in Gibraltar, but he has maintained his scoring record at Hornchurch, including the sensational second goal at Wembley, where he was named Player of the Match. Last season, in addition to scoring 23 goals, Liam also had 16 assists.

OLA OGUNWAMIDE (Midfield) Ola played for Woodford, St Alban’s City, Barking and Tilbury, joining East Thurrock United in 2021. He signed for Hornchurch after a very impressive performance against us, and quickly became a regular choice, playing on the left side. In addition to having seven assists to his credit, Ola has also scored some spectacular goals for Hornchurch.

MICKEY PARCELL (Defender) Mickey at was at Torquay United where he signed a professional contract following a two year scholarship, but injury curtailed his time at Plainmoor, which included loan spells at Bideford and Truro City. He signed for Enfield Town ahead of the 2015-16 season. In four seasons at Enfield, Mickey made 160 appearances and scored five goals. Mickey won the Hornchurch Goal of the Season award in 2021-22 when he scored from deep inside his own half against Brightlingsea Regent. Mickey was included in the Isthmian League Team of the Year for 2021-22

WYAN REID (Defender)Wyan came through the ranks at Aveley where he progressed from their doublewinning reserve team, making his first team debut in 2018 and going on to play 56 times, scoring seven goals. The defender joined Concord Rangers in August 2021, moving to Brightlingsea Regent in January 2022

(11 appearances, 1 goal). He made two appearances for Brentwood Town this season before joining Cheshunt.

LEWWIS SPENCE (Midfield) Lewwis was previously with Thurrock where he made 181 appearances scoring 46 goals in five seasons, briefly interrupted by a spell at Greenwich Borough. He quickly established himself at Hornchurch and together with Rickie Hayles held up the FA Trophy at Wembley. He has also scored several spectacular goals from the half way line for both Thurrock and Hornchurch. Lewwis holds a unique record, as his sister Drew, who played for Chelsea Ladies, was also a Wembley winner,

CHARLIE STIMSON (Forward) Charlie joined the Urchins at the start of December 2018. In his six seasons at Thurrock he made 220 appearances, scoring 70 goals. He only played seven times at Waltham Abbey, scoring four goals, before injury caused him to miss the next three months of the season. He is the son of manager Mark Stimson.

REMI SUTTON (Defender) Remi played for Hornchurch in their Capital League side in 2008-09. He played for Canvey Island, Great Wakering and Basildon Utd before joining Thurrock in December 2013. He had a short spell at Greenwich Borough before returning to Thurrock, and he made exactly 200 appearances, scoring eleven goals. Remi was included in the Isthmian League Team of the Year for 2021-22.

TOM WRAIGHT (Midfield) Hornchurch Player of the Season 2021-22. Tom played for Tilbury, Witham Town, East Thurrock and Maidstone, joining Chelmsford City in 2018. Despite missing much of the 2019-20 season with a serious knee injury, he went on to make 79 appearances for City, scoring 17 goals, and becoming their captain in 2021. Tom has a remarkable scoring record with every club he played for, and he carried on where he left off with a goal on his Hornchurch debut. He scored four goals in the first half in our five nil win at Carshalton, but a serious injury in the Play Off semi final meant that he was unable to play in the all-important final. Tom was included in the Isthmian League Team of the Year for 2021-22

JOE WRIGHT (Goalkeeper) Joe is a former Queens Park Rangers youth goalkeeper. His first senior club was Cheshunt in 2010, followed by Redbridge, Maldon & Tiptree, Billericay Town, Hendon ,and Welling United. He had two spells at Bishop’s Stortford, before joining Enfield Town in 2017-18. In his two seasons at Enfield Town, he made 95 appearances. He saved three penalties in the FA Trophy shoot-out against King’s Lynn.

MARK STIMSON (Manager)

Mark has the incredible record of winning five FA Trophy finals – as a player with Canvey Island 2001, and as manager with Grays Athletic, 2005 and 2006, Stevenage in 2007, and Hornchurch in 2021. During his professional playing career with Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Portsmouth and Leyton Orient, he made over 250 appearances in the Football League. He later played for Canvey Island and Grays Athletic, and was manager at Gillingham, Barnet and Kettering Town. He had six seasons at Thurrock and a short spell at Waltham Abbey, before becoming manager of AFC Hornchurch. He guided Hornchurch to their Wembley Trophy win, and to the play-off final last season.

KILLIAN CAHILL JOINS BOGNOR ON LOAN

Bognor Regis Town saw on-loan Pompey keeper Toby Steward recalled by his parent club earlier this week, but have immediately sourced another professional replacement, with Brighton & Hove Albion Under 21 keeper Killian Cahill signing on for the rest of the campaign.

Killian will be thrust straight into the team as the Rocks travel to face Lewes today.

The player joined Brighton from Irish club Shamrock Rovers just under twelve months ago, and has become an important part of the Under 21 side at the Amex after stepping up from the Under 18 side.

CALLUM COULTER, KRAIG MCLEOD, MALAKAI HYMAN AND JOE HALSEY ARE ALL NEW IN PINK AND BROWN

Corinthian-Casuals recently announced a collection of new arrivals - although some of them have actually been at the club for a few weeks.

Goalkeeper Callum Coulter was the first debutant. Callum was previously with Colchester United and Aldershot Town, and he appeared for Maldon and Tiptree, and Bowers and Pitsea on loan from United. Among st his other previous clubs are East Grinstead Town and - recently - Ashford Town.

Defender Kraig McLeod spent time last season with Enfield Town and Brightlingsea Regent. He has also played for Maldon & Tiptree. He came through the youth ranks at Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers, and has also played for Basingstoke Town and Hendon. He is a Grenada international.

Another defender, Malakai Hyman has mos t recently been with Merstham, where he made a dozen appearances this season. His previous clubs include Carshalton Athletic, where he made a dozen appearances last season, and he also spent a short time with Erith & Belvedere and Woodford Town.

Finally, Joe Halsey is a former Luton Town Academy full back who played for all the sides below the first team. He then moved on to Chesham United.

AFC WIMBLEDON STRIKER JOINS WINGATE & FINCHLEY

Wingate and Finchley have confirmed the loan arrival of AFC Wimbledon forward Quaine Bartley, who heads to Summers Lane on a one month loan.

Academy star Quaine has actually been part of the first team squad at the League Two Dons, and he has emerged from the bench to play a part eight times this season. His most recent first team appearance came in the victory over Sutton United on November 22nd.

This isn't his first spell in our league. he spent loan time at Cray Wanderers and Potters Bar Town last season, making four Wands appearances - including one in defeat against his new side during which he rather inexplicably wore the number five shirt - and one for the Scholars, in a win at Kingstonian.

KWAKU FRIMPONG IS NEW AT POTTERS BAR TOWN

Potters Bar Town gave a second half debut to AFC Wimbledon loanee Kwaku Frimpong in defeat against Wingate & Finchley yesterday.

The midfielder signed his first professional deal with the Dons last year, and then spent some time on loan with Leatherhead, where he made eleven appearances. He then moved on to spend loan time at Carshalton Athletic, making a dozen appearances and scoring in that nine goal thriller at Cray Wanderers.

This season he made his Dons first team debut, and has spent some time on loan at National League South side Dartford.

HUFC vs LEWES FC - MAN OF THE MATCH - JACK DIXON

1956

Although the Busby Babes went on to win the League Championship in 1955/56 Manchester United were brought firmly down to earth with a 3rd Round FA Cup defeat at Bristol Rovers that season. A 35,872 Eastville crowd saw Rovers win 4-0 and record one of their most memorable results in what was - amazingly to think of now - Manchester United's only cuptie that season. Only once since - in 1958/59 - have Manchester United played just one cup match in a season. One of Bristol Rovers scorers that day was Barrie Meyer who was also a talented cricketer, playing for Gloucestershire in the summer. In later life he went on to became a Test match umpire and so became the first player to score an FA Cup goal against Manchester United and umpire a Test match - how's that for an obscure sporting connection!
