CLUB STATEMENT SPECTATOR BEHAVIOUR RESPONSIBILITIES The Board of Directors have recently received several complaints from other league clubs and also our own supporters about excessive swearing and antisocial behaviour. Please read a statement from the HUFC Board of Directors on page 31.

Good afternoon all. Welcome to the Pilot Field for today’s Bostik League Division One South East match against Guernsey FC. We extend a warm welcome to the officials, players and supporters of our Channel Island visitors. We hope they have an enjoyable, albeit pointlesss afternoon, and wish them a safe return trip. A similar warm welcome is extended to today’s three match officials, Referee Alexander Bradley and his two Assistants, Dominic Barrow and Paul Hitchcott. We return to Pilot Field action this afternoon after an excellent 3-0 victory here over a strong play-off placed Whyteleafe side and a very disappointing 4-1 away defeat at the hands of lowly Herne Bay, a side we emphatically beat 5-0 last November. Football eh! Coming away pointless last weekend following that rather unexpected defeat was even more galling after league leaders Cray Wanderers dropped two points in a 1-1 away match at Faversham Town. Their lead over us is now 11 points with 42 points left to play for. Today’s visitors currently sit at 14th position in the league table, with 24 points from 21 matches. This afternoon’s away fixture for Guernsey will be their forth on the bounce since they were defeated 3-0 at the hands of then form team, Three Bridges, on 22nd December in front of 743, their highest Footes Lane crowd of this season. Guernsey’s recent away travels have seen them return home after draws against Horsham 1-1 and Ramsgate 2-2 and last Saturday a 2-1 win at Haywards Heath. I’m sure Guernsey’s manager, Tony Vance, will have his side set to continue their points winning away form. One threat to look out for is Matt Loaring who has netted 11 Bostik SE goals. A listing of Guernsey’s last twelve Bostik League results can be found on the centre pages. Thank you for your support this afternoon. Win it boys! ... COYU’s ... #ambition #promotion2019

MANAGER’S NOTES Good afternoon everyone. A very warm welcome to Tony Vance and all his staff as well as Guernsey’s directors and superb support....Tony is 1000% one of the best managers I’ve came up against both on and off the pitch - incredibly open and honest as well as being tactically very clever, he’s always happy to talk football, share ideas and is generally a top guy who I’m thoroughly looking forward to seeing.

Chris Agutter

... we will be aiming to continue our exceptional home form ...

So .... Herne Bay ...... enough said about that! Guernsey will be another tough test, however a different test to the usual head it, kick it, boot it, turn them, type of the test that Bostik South East more often than not throws our way .... I expect a very open, attacking game that will be one for the neutral. We will be aiming to continue our exceptional home form whilst Guernsey will be hoping to maintain their recent successes on the road ..... this I’m sure will be one not to miss!! As always I look forward to a very decent turnout from our top notch HUFC support .... let’s continue to get behind this young group that is doing the Club and Town as a whole proud!!

very kind boy who loves playing sport since joining Claremont School 6 months ago. He now plays hockey, rugby, cricket and mainly now football, whereas before joining the school had no interest at all! He now watches, plays, collects football cards and listens to talk sport, it's an incredible turnaround. He also plays chess and loves music and is learning the guitar at school. We come to the Pilot Field regularly and love it.

story to his older brother. He is totally mad about the game nothing else matters, he plays for All Stars Academy in Eastbourne and at school, after school outside in our hallway, in his bedroom, even in his sleep I'm sure. He has been crazy since he could walk, if he sees a can in the street or an old dog ball he just starts dribbling or kicking it. A future football star I'm sure. He loves music too and is learning the drums at school, he loves the Pilot Field but like Reuben and his Dad his first love is Liverpool FC he has been to Anfield which is what the boys bedroom looks like, it's a blaze of Red LFC. I'm sure Henry sang ’You'll Never Walk Alone’ in his mummy’s tummy.

GUT FEELING Simon Stoddart A light hearted and serious look at football (not necessarily just football) at all levels, those who play, those who administrate and those of us who follow our various teams in this vast, lop sided pyramid of the game. At all times, views expressed are mine.

ROCKY HORROR HERNE BAY SHOW Well, it was really. A classic illustration of the ups and downs following the boys on their campaign to get Bostik Premier football to The Pilot Field. An afternoon like that to follow on from a couple of outstanding clean sheet wins against Whyteleafe and Ashford. Yet in recent weeks we have leaked ten goals against East Grinstead, Phoenix Sports and Herne Bay. Herne Bay who had lost nine out of ten home games. Combine that with everyone below us winning and we find ourselves having to fix it all again. Which we are perfectly capable of managing. I was as frustrated as anyone but did feel for the players who worked so hard to claw back the deficit in the second-half after a quality goal from Daniel got us back to 1-3 at half time. But it wasn't to be and the 4th goal rubbed it in. As did Danny Leonard getting two of the Herne Bay goals - remember him playing for us a couple of seasons ago? Good player.

GUERNSEY I still recall that first encounter with Guernsey five seasons ago. That FA Cup tie against a side making a very decent fist of their debut season in Ryman South. Danny Ellis got us back to 2-2 with a long range special only for a soft penalty to gift the tie to Guernsey who had goal machine Ross Allen scoring for fun. He got a hat-trick that afternoon. We went on to lose both league encounters. 2-0 at Footes Lane and a 4-0 drubbing here late in the season. Since then things have evened out and more. Guernsey havent been able to reproduce that opening season's form, Ross Allen has

16

moved on and mid table seems the benchmark these days. Not that you take anything for granted! The fact I am following this afternoon's game from Phillies Sports Bar in Angeles City, the Philippines is largely down to Guernsey FC who I thank for helping me cure my fear of flying. The 45 minute hop from Gatwick for that 1st encounter over 5 years ago got me sorted and not long after I was off to Manila. There the good wishes end. We need to put right last weekend today!. JERSEY BULLS FC Anything Guernsey can do, Jersey can too. They are after a place in the Combined Counties League's Division One and mainland football - a couple of levels below us at Step 6. As with Guernsey they'll have to pay the opposition flight costs so there's a big job for whoever looks after their sponsorship deals! To be followed with interest.

FA TOSH Last weekend's Non League Paper included an article on the FA restructuring of steps 3 and 4 football. And full of tosh it is too. "The FA is genuinely here to support and help" is one of the more memorable bits of tosh. It glosses over the all too obvious short comings that will see 7 step 4 divisions attempt the mathematically impossible task of promoting clubs up to step 3 which has it's own FA inspired shambles of promotion up to step 2. Support and help? As in play off winners not being promoted despite having fullfilled all the on pitch requirements of previous seasons? The FA is sooooo out of touch with the semi-pro game. What they are doing at steps 3 and 4 they would not dream of imposing on pro football.

SATNAV Perhaps it was appropriate given what had happened at Herne Bay but the SATNAV directing me down, er, Digdog Lane - an ever narrowing lane roofed over by trees - had me anticipating Bilbo Baggins emerging from the woods. This prompted me to have a look for other interesting sounding road names. Dumb Womans Lane on the approach to Rye is pretty good. And how do sell your house if you live in Crotch Crescent!

DEFICIT SLASHED There are long time supporters like Phil Donaldson who have well over 200 away grounds notched up over the years. My visit to Herne Bay last weekend was my 126th away ground. I'm only around 100 behind you Phil!

GUERNSEY FC HISTORY

Guernsey Football Club was formed in 2011 to offer the island's elite footballers the opportunity to progress and test themselves on a regular basis outside of the Channel Islands. The proposal to establish the club and seek to join the English national league pyramid system was developed by the Guernsey Football Association in an attempt to further advance development opportunities for the island's current and future players by playing at higher levels on a regular basis. We are an independent, community amateur football club which play in the Ryman Isthmian League Division One South at Step Four on English football's non-league pyramid system. The club is owned and run for the benefit of the local Guernsey community and it plays its home games at the Footes Lane Stadium. The club's vision is to create, develop and maintain a sustainable, successful, financially viable, democratic football club that creates and maintains real and lasting benefits to its members and the local Guernsey community. We are a registered charity and will remain a non-profit organisation with any financial surpluses being re-invested for the future viability of the club and hence the benefit of the local community. The initial idea to establish Guernsey FC was developed during the 2009-10 season when Guernsey's Senior County Division One representative side enjoyed a successful run in the FA National League System Cup (for league representative sides at Step Seven on the nonleague pyramid system and below, since renamed the FA Inter-League Cup), culminating in Guernsey beating the Liverpool County Premier League 5-2 in the final in May 2010. Along the way, Guernsey defeated representative sides from the Kent County Premier League, the Northampton Premier League, the Southern Amateur League, the Hertfordshire Premier League and the Dorset

20

Premier League. The final was held in Guernsey in front of a crowd of over 2,500 and was the first time ever that the FA had allowed one of its competition finals to be held outside of the UK mainland. Following a 1-0 victory over Jersey to reclaim the Muratti Vase in May 2010, the prize for winning the FA National League System Cup for this same squad of players was to represent England in the UEFA Regions Cup preliminary round in Croatia in September 2010. This was a fantastic experience for the players and coaching and medical staff and, although Guernsey enjoyed mixed fortunes by beating Wales 3-0, drawing with hosts Croatia 1-1 and losing to group winners Turkey 3-0, it provided football at a higher standard, was very motivational and gave our players a great desire to improve further and to play more regularly at higher levels. Over the course of the following few months, the club's founding directors, Steve Dewsnip and Mark Le Tissier, received encouragement from the Football Association, the Guernsey FA, the Combined Counties League (which we were introduced to by the FA), our former official main club sponsor Sportingbet, the island's government (the States of Guernsey) and the island's local football community to develop our plans for the new club further and were delighted when the member clubs of the Combined Counties League voted by a significant majority on 20 June 2011 to allow Guernsey FC to join Division One of their league. Although our club is very young, football in Guernsey has a long history dating back to 1893 when the Guernsey FA was established and since then has produced several players who have graced the highest levels of the English professional game, including Bill Spurdle (Manchester City), Richard Le Flem (Nottingham Forest &England U23), Ron Farmer (Coventry City), Len Duquemin (Tottenham Hotspur) and, more recently and more famously, our former club president Matt Le Tissier (Southampton and England).

Saturday 6th August 2011 was a historic day for Guernsey FC and the island in general when the club played its inaugural game at Footes Lane against Knaphill FC in the Combined Counties League Division One. That historic day turned into an historic season with the club winning the league title, having lost only 2 of its 34 league matches, with a 7-1 win against second-placed Bedfont Sports in front of 2,143 supporters at Footes Lane in March 2012 and then going on to secure the double in its first season by winning the Combined Counties Premier Challenge Cup following a 2-0 victory after extra-time over Premier Division side Colliers Wood United. The 2012-13 season was a tough campaign. The Green Lions reached the semi-finals of the FA Carlsberg Vase in the club’s first season in the competition, breaking its record attendance twice in the historic run. A crowd of 4,290 was at Footes Lane for the semi-final first leg against Spennymoor Town. The league campaign saw countless postponed fixtures due to adverse weather and the cup run. In April, Guernsey FC played a staggering 16 games in 30 days. The May bank holiday weekend saw GFC play four games in four days and remarkably secure all 12 points to finish second in the Combined Counties Premier League and gain promotion to the Ryman Isthmian League Division One South. The club's first season in the Ryman Isthmian Leagues was a constructive campaign and had plenty of highs. The club finished in a respectable fourth place but lost 3-2 away to Leatherhead in the play-off semi-final. The Green Lions also became the first team from the Channel Islands to play in the FA Cup during the 2013/14 season, when they took on Crawley Down Gatwick away on 31st August 2013. GFC won the game 3-1 and eventually went out of the competition in the 2nd qualifying round, after losing 3-2 to the Conference South's Dover Athletic. Guernsey's second season in Ryman South was much tougher. Injuries and unavailability left the Green Lions struggling though October and November and it wasn't until just before Christmas that results picked up. Any hopes of sneaking into the play-offs late on were dashed with a run of four defeats in five games in March. The Green

Lions eventually finished 10th in the league before many of the squad were part of the Guernsey FA gold-medal winning side at the 2015 NatWest Island Games in Jersey. Despite a couple of patches of indifferent form in the first half of the 2015-16 season, the Green Lions found themselves third in the table in the new year and equalled their Ryman South unbeaten record of nine games. But a mixture of poor performances, injuries and bad luck led to a six-game losing run that saw our play-off challenge fade away. However, a new crop of youngsters made an impact, with Robbie Legg becoming the club's youngest goalscorer at 16 when he netted against Whyteleafe in March. GFC were finally drawn at home in the FA Cup against Lewes in the first qualifying round, but unfortunately a replay defeat to Phoenix Sports in the preliminary round meant they were unable to fulfil that particular goal. We beat our points total and wins total from the previous season, but finished 13th. The 2016-17 season was GFC's most challenging yet as they battled against relegation for the first time in their history. It took until the end of September to secure the first victory of the campaign and bad luck hit Tony Vance's squad with several lengthy injuries and absences to key players. They didn't manage to win a home game after Christmas, but finally ended their winless away run (that had gone on for over a year and nearly 30 matches) when they beat Chipstead in February and, ironically, it was their away results that kept them up as two more wins and a draw were enough to keep them ahead of their rivals. There was change off the field as Mark Le Tissier took over as Chairman, but the main highlight was the FA Cup coming to Guernsey for the first time in August amidst a tremendous fanfare that included the famous trophy being displayed at Footes Lane. Dave Rihoy’s second-half brace in the first ever FA-Cup match to be contested outside the mainland secured a replay, but GFC eventually went out on penalties at Thamesmead Town. More youngsters made an impact as Thomas Dodds went on to become a key player having only made his debut at the start of the campaign at just 17 years of age. He went on to scoop five awards at the end-of-season gala.

GAMBIA KIT APPEAL

We are launching an appeal from young footballers in a small fishing village in the Gambia. The village is called Gunjur. Most families have no electricity or running water. The major pastime and passion for the kids is football which helps in bringing the village together. They are desperate for second-hand football boots or trainers. No matter what condition they are in any donations will be gratefully received. The children are as young as 5 years old progressing through to adulthood. They will all treasure any boots or trainers you can provide. Second-hand sports shirts, shorts or socks are also really appreciated if you can help? There were children fortunate enough to have been given second-hand boots this week. There are many others who would love to own a pair. We will be posting a collection bin by the club shop on match days for boots and any old (but good condition) kits you may wish to donate. We will also have a second collection point at Springfield Road Dental Surgery, where items can be left during office hours. If you have anything that you wish us to collect, please contact Club Director Pat McCrossan on: Pat.Mccrossan@hastingsunited.com Thank you for helping us help the people of Gunjur come together through the wonderful game.

SPECTATOR BEHAVIOUR RESPONSIBILITIES The board of Directors have recently received several complaints from other league clubs and also our own supporters about excessive swearing and antisocial behaviour coming from some of our alleged supporters during particularly away games. Most recently, we were concerned about behaviour at Phoenix Sports and excessive foul language at Herne Bay last Saturday which caused offence to many supporters, some with young children. The board accepts that football is a passionate game and that emotions often run high during matches. Likewise, we are truly grateful to the many who travel to get behind the team. However, we cannot ignore when concerns are raised and ask supporters to ensure that they are familiar with our ground regulations (especially section 6-8 - see below) and observe them both home and away. Any supporter ejected or banned from an away ground will automatically receive a ban from the Pilot Field. We acknowledge and thank the vast majority of our supporters for their dedication to the club and ask the supporters in question to enjoy the game but please refrain from any poor behaviour including improper chanting going forward. Any further incidents or complaints will result in bans being applied should offenders be identified. Pat McCrossan On behalf of the board of Hastings United FC

EXTRACT FROM HASTINGS UNITED FC GROUND REGULATIONS Regulation 6 The following articles must not be brought within the Ground – footballs, whistles, knives, fireworks, smoke canisters, flares, weapons, dangerous or hazardous items, laser devices, bottles, glass vessels, cans, poles and any article that may be used as a weapon and/or compromise public safety. Any person in possession of such items will be refused entry or ejected from the Ground.

Regulation 7 The use of threatening behaviour, foul or abusive language is strictly forbidden and will result in arrest and/or ejection from the Ground. The Club may impose a ban for one or more Matches.

Regulation 7a Racial abuse, abusive chanting or harassment is strictly forbidden and will result in arrest and/or ejection from the Ground. The Club may impose a ban for one or more Matches.

Regulation 7b The following acts are arrestable offences under the Football (Offences) Act 1991, as amended (conviction may result in a Banning Order being made): • The throwing of any object within the Ground without lawful authority or excuse • The chanting of anything of an indecent or racist nature • The entry onto the playing area or adjacent area to which spectators are not generally admitted without lawful authority or excuse.

Regulation 8 All persons entering the Ground may only use the parts of the Ground open to spectators. Any areas designated permanently or temporarily out of bounds must not be used. Failure to comply may result in ejection from the Ground.

Health & Safety Hastings United Football Club takes seriously your health and safety during your visit to the Pilot Field.

The Club Believes Customer Care starts on the inside, with a good team of staff and work ethic. Most of our staff are volunteers but The Club expect our staff to always do their best.

Please note that the officers and stewards of Hastings United Football Club will enforce Ground Regulations. A copy of these Regulations is posted at the entrance to each turnstile and within the ground on the wall next to the food bar.

Our staff should remain courteous even in difficult situations. The Club and its staff know they are offering a service and that they would like every customer to return.

Please note that the following are offences under the Football (Offences) Act 1991, as amended: the throwing of any object within the ground without lawful authority or excuse, the chanting of anything of an indecent or racist nature: the entry onto the playing area or any adjacent area to which spectators are not generally admitted without lawful authority or excuse.

We believe that people come first when offering a service.

Under the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985, the following are offences for which a person can be arrested by a police officer: attempting to enter the ground or being inside the ground whilst drunk: being in possession of any intoxicating liquor, or bottle, can or other portable container which could cause damage or personal injury when entering the ground.

We expect our staff to be friendly and helpful and to know their job or be able to call upon someone who is able to respond to the needs of our customers. We expect our staff to give their full attention to a customer in any situation that arises.

In Addition We expect our staff and volunteers to care about their job as this will ensure they care about our customers. We expect our staff and volunteers to treat every customer as they would like to be treated themselves. We in return expect our customers to treat our volunteers and staff with respect and The Club will not tolerate any physical or verbal abused aimed at them.
