GAMBIA KIT APPEAL UPDATE We have been given an update from co-ordinators who have just returned from delivering the first wave of your donations. Most of these have been given to a new sports committee who have been set up to protect this field for the village children. Many of them are Football for Peace coaches. Brighton Uni go out every year and help train them in all aspects of running a team and how to organise themselves. They will evenly distribute the items you have donated amongst the age range of teams. Some of the items went to the Brikama Football Academy known as Greater Tomorrow. They are in the nearest town a 20 minute drive from the village of Gunjur. The children in the region are really well cared for and team leaders check on their education and monitor their welfare. We will continue to collect as much as we can to help. Thank you to St Catherine’s College in Eastbourne for delivering the kits for us.

WELCOME Good afternoon all. Welcome to the Pilot Field for today’s Bostik League Division One South East match against play-off placed rivals Haywards Heath Town FC. We extend a warm welcome to the officials, players and supporters of our visitors. We hope they have an enjoyable afternoon, and wish them a safe return trip. A similar warm welcome is extended to today’s three match officials, Referee Ian Fissenden and his two Assistants, Nick Dunn and Richard Joss. We return to Pilot Field action this afternoon after picking up maximum points against Faversham Town two weeks ago, but came away with nothing to show for our trip over to East Grinstead last weekend. High scoring Gregory Cundle sealing a 2-1 win, and the double over United, for the Wasps in the 81st minute. All three goals coming after the interval, Jahmal Howlett-Mundle getting United back on terms in the 67th minute following Leo Mazzone putting the hosts in the lead after 54 minutes. Today’s visitors currently occupy the 3rd play-off spot in 4th position in the league table, just a point behind us with 49 points from 27 league matches. It should be pointed out that Heath have an impressive away record, second only to league leaders Cray Wanderers, having been defeated just the once in thirteen outings, going down 3-1 to Guernsey last October. On Wednesday evening Heath competed in the SemiFinal of the Sussex Senior Challenge Cup at Culver Road, Lancing, HQ of the Sussex County FA, against higher-level Burgess Hill Town. The match, played out in very foggy conditions, ended 2-1 to Burgess Hill. With the play-off places being separated by a margin of only four points it is really important that we take maximum points from today’s 3rd vs 4th placed clash. A listing of Haywards Heath Town’s last ten first team results can be found on the centre pages. Thank you for your support this afternoon. Back to winning ways today please boys! ... MANAGER’S NOTES Good afternoon everyone. Welcome to the Haywards Heath players, staff and Club officials .... despite the not so positive result in our reverse fixture I can wholeheartedly say that as a Club Haywards Heath were particularly welcoming and I’m sure we can return the favour today here at the Pilot Field. I also look forward to a loud, vigorous and positive HUFC support ..... yes me make mistakes and yes we sometimes fall short of our high standards, but we are certainly trying our very best and we need that all important HUFC support in full voice to try and help us get over the line.
Chris Agutter
... I’m convinced that with our
continued hardwork and the constant development of our young team that our luck will change and we will finish the season strong! ...
The last few games have in my opinion seen us fall victim to the small margins in football ..... injuries, debatable refereeing decisions away at Horsham and Whitstable and home against Faversham, as well as missing golden scoring opportunities ...... we’ve had more possession, created more chances, had more shots on goal, and generally dominated all statistics against every opposition for nearly 3 months (pretty much all season in fact) ..... what we’ve lacked recently is the ruthlessness in both boxes that saw us top of the league early in the season. However, I’m convinced that with our continued hardwork and the constant development of our young team that our luck will change and we will finish the season strong! What we need is positivity ... no moaning about how we play (because it has put us where we are challenging for promotion at the business end of the season) ..... no moaning about making mistakes (because our players are young and if they didn’t make these mistakes they wouldn’t be at HUFC) .... and instead just pure positive support for an exciting group of players that I am very proud of - win, lose or draw, these young men are a credit to the Club and the town ..... I am privileged to work with them!

GUT FEELING Simon Stoddart A light hearted and serious look at football (not necessarily just football) at all levels, those who play, those who administrate and those of us who follow our various teams in this vast, lop sided pyramid of the game. At all times, views expressed are mine.
OH WOE IS U's I do tend to bear grudges when it comes to football – and down the years I've built up a few. And I must admit that some of the shenanigans in the Pilot Field fixture against East Grinstead saw a few more accumulate – not least of all following the play acting and conniving that saw Daniel get a red card, a card that I suspect is the only one he's had all season? Anyway, the chance to put things right last weekend on a sloping East Grinstead pitch which was actually in excellent condition. And it turned out to be another one of those frustrating afternoons which saw just one chance of four converted while East Grinstead put away two to complete the double over us. And as much as it pains me to say it, the home player who was involved in the red card controversy here was their best player in the centre of their defence. We were expecting to win at Whitstable recently – and didn't. Horsham went there last weekend – and did – and went above us. And they were at East Grinstead on Tuesday night – playing their game in hand on us after the deadline for getting my notes to Paul. Hopefully East Grinstead will have done us a favour but the way things have gone lately, I wasn't holding my breath as I tapped away! But not so long ago, we were five points clear in 2nd place – and while that lead has been wiped out, there's no reason it can't be restored in the games left. We just need to get that consistency back in our game. Consistent clean sheets won't do any harm to the cause!
COULD'VE BEEN BETTER United – LOST England Rugby in Cardiff – LOST England Cricket in W.Indies – LOST Chelsea Cup Final - LOST Hmmm – how to describe last weekend - ****

Clive Stunt CLIVE STUNT - 64 NOT OUT Clive – well, he's just been around forever, really. A truly permanent fixture who first ventured up to The Pilot Field in 1955, the year after I was born. Clive is 79 now and is into his 64th year following United mark 1, Town and United mark 2. Well done, fella. Hmmm, I'm approaching 43 years and have a long way to go to catch up!
BALLS Nothing short of farcical at East Grinstead when – as happens frequently, the ball having disappeared out of the ground – it became apparent that there were no balls in the home dugout thus resulting in a frantic search for those essential items without which the game is impossible. Time added on – no balls....... Really?
TIME TIME TIME We all want to see Bostik Premier football next season, there are still plenty of reasons to be optimistic and we should make the play-offs albeit with that FA play-off shambles ready on the horizon to cause grief to two clubs. It's vital to win as many games as possible and build up that points-per-game balance.
domination – in particular by Whitley Bay who included in their ranks, Steve Cuggy, who played here back in the late 90s. If you remember – do a Google or search on Twitter for a memorable rendition of La Bamba by City's Mobolaji Dawodu who had to carry out this forfeit for being late. Brilliant.
We all know this is a young side – and Chris has done a massive job to bring them all on as the season has progressed. Look at Saturday last weekend – James Pool – all 16 years of him – slotted in so well. Should we go up through the play-offs (I think we all concede that Cray will win the division) will we be ready for the tougher demands of the Premier? Would another season at this level building on some solid foundations not be such a bad thing? All those years ago – Peter Sillett and George Wakeling said they'd need time to build a promotion winning side. They both needed three seasons after a couple of campaigns of not quite being the finished product. And when it all fell into place we enjoyed two title winning seasons. I don't count 2006/2007 when Nigel Kane secured promotion via the play-offs – play-offs that didn't feature in 91/92 and 01/02. Promotion was secured properly in those days! Play-offs have created a freak factor – nicely illustrated some years ago when Bognor finished equal top of Ryman South with 96 points but a goal difference one better saw Met Police win the automatic promotion place. Bognor had to go into the lottery of the play-offs where they lost to Leatherhead who had finished 31 points behind them. Obviously we'd all be made up with it if we were a level higher next season – but the three year plan (assuming Chris is thinking that's how long he wants) has a lot going for it, all the more so when the side is so young. Whatever, wherever – this squad will be that much more seasoned and experienced come the end of this season. And having the same people in charge (and welcome back to Peter Heritage!) next August will be vital.
HAYWARDS HEATH TOWN They are making a very decent fist of their first year at this level which should really have been last season but for a nine points deduction in 16-17 which saw Shoreham go up in their place. Shoreham went straight back down and Haywards Heath appropriately replaced them. I missed the 2-1 defeat at their place and frustratingly miss today's game too – work interferes once again. I shall have to follow affairs on Twitter and Footballwebpages again. This is a vital game ........... Say no more!
TO THE BITTER END If ever there was a better way to illustrate the folly of leaving that 0-0 draw early, this is it.......
FA VASE SEMI-FINALS An all Kent semi-final resulted from the weekend's Vase games. Been a good 20 years since Hastings Town played in that competition – still recall getting to the last 16, must be 30 years ago? The Southern Counties East League is well represented in one of the semi-finals with Cray Valley PM taking on Canterbury City while Chertsey Town travel north to Northwich Victoria. We have encountered Cray Valley a couple of times in FA Cup ties in recent seasons while you have to go back to 1991-92 to when we last played Canterbury City who fell on hard times. That was in our Southern League Southern Division days. Good to see southern sides doing well in the Vase after many seasons of northern

HAYWARDS HEATH TOWN FC HISTORY
The first match played by a team representing Haywards Heath was in March 1888, which provided the impetus for the formation of ‘Haywards Heath Juniors’. After a brief change of name to ‘Excelsior’ in 1894, the club adopted the name ‘Haywards Heath FC’ in 1895. Without a home ground, the club led a somewhat itinerant existence in its early days, playing most of its games away until 1895 when it was offered the use of the field in South Road which was later to become Victoria Park and the club’s home until 1952. Haywards Heath FC lifted its first silverware in 1900 when it won the Sussex Junior Cup and played in the Mid-Sussex League of which it was one of the founding members. 1901-1906 saw the club finish as runners-up in the senior division in four of its first five seasons, then division 2 winners in 1911-12 after relegation in 1908. In 1919–20 Haywards Heath were MidSussex League champions without losing a game. They won the title again in 1922–23 and went on to retain it for the next two seasons, losing only one match in each season. In 1926 the club transferred to the Brighton, Hove & District League and, after winning the league title at the very first attempt, joined the Sussex County League the following year. The first five seasons in the County League (19261932) saw the club finish in the top four but they were sadly to finish bottom of the league in the 1932-33 season. In 1941-42, the club won the Sussex Senior Cup and, after the war, were the league’s Eastern Division winners of 1945-46. A single division league was re-introduced the following year which the club won in both 194950 and again in 1950-51. 1952 saw the club finally move from Victoria Park to the newly finished Hanbury Stadium which enabled it to join the Metropolitan League
20
which included the reserve sides of professional clubs such as West Ham, Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal. After a promising first season finishing in fifth place, the club struggled against the professional opposition and, finishing bottom in 1960-61, elected to re-join the Sussex County League. The Division 1 title was won in 1969-70 and the League Cup in 1972-73. The club was also runners-up in 1974-75 but were relegated at the end of the 1979-80 season. The Division 2 Cup was won in 1983-84 and, as runners-up in 1985-86, the club gained promotion back into the senior division. In 1988 the present name of Haywards Heath Town Football Club was adopted in it’s centennial year to reflect the ‘town’ status of Haywards Heath itself. Two successive relegations in 1992 and 1993 saw the club drop into the third division where they won the Division 3 Cup in 2000-01. The following year as Division 3 runners-up, HHTFC were promoted back to Division 2 but were again relegated after only one season. The Division 3 Cup was won in 2008-09 however and in 201213 (again as runners-up), the club gained promotion back into Division 2. On the rebranding of the Sussex County League to the Southern Combination in 2015, the division was renamed Division 1 and the title was won in that first season, earning Haywards Heath Town FC promotion to the Premier Division. The club finished top of the division the following season and were due to be promoted to the Isthmian League. Unfortunately, promotion was denied following a nine-point deduction awarded the championship elsewhere due to an inadvertent off-field administrative error. The club however responded by winning the Premier Division again in 2017-18 along with the Peter Bentley League Cup, and are now proud members of the Bostik South East Division of the Isthmian league.
NEWS From: Ian Townsend
FORMER PHOENIX JOINS ON LOAN FROM GILLINGHAM CHANGES AT ASHFORD ...... HASLER IN, COX OUT! Back in July we brought you the news that young Phoenix Sports player Ben Allen had signed a professional deal with Gillingham, after impressing the League One side when scoring a magnificent goal against them in the Kent Senior Cup. His Gills career is going well, and he has found the net on a number of occasions- but for the time being he's heading back to the Bostik League to gain more experience and Greenwich Borough are the beneficiaries.
Ashford United have announced the loan signing of Sam Hasler from Bostik Premier Division Folkestone Invicta. Haslet starred for Neil Cugley's side as they reached the playoffs last season, but has found starts much more difficult to come by during this campaign- indeed he last made the first eleven against Didcot Town on 10th November. He looks to be an excellent acquisition for the Nuts and Bolts, who sit in second place in the South East Division, sixteen points behind leaders Cray Wanderers.
FORWARD MOVES FROM HERNE BAY TO HYTHE TOWN
The club say goodbye to Stefan Cox, who has apparently gone to Whyteleafe. He has made thirteen appearances for United this season, but Herne Bay announced the departure of forward Tom picked up red cards against Cray Wanderers and Carlton. Today the player was announced as a new Phoenix Sports, which led to him spending a signing for Kent Coast rivals Hythe Town- and you can significant time suspended. read that announcement here.
Carlton had made the most appearances of any player at Bay this season, thirty two, scoring seven goals including one in a draw with his new employers back in August. He left Bay citing 'frustration'- but Town will Three Bridges manager Martin Dynan has be anything but frustrated at his arrival, as they push announced two new signings, both going straight for a playoff place. . into his squad as Bridges head down the A264 -
BRIDGES SIGN DUO
and then, sadly, down the A22 to Lancing- to face Horsham tomorrow.
CANNONS BRING IN MARGATE FORWARD
Both come from elsewhere in Sussex. The first is defender Dean Gunner, who arrives from East Hythe Town have confirmed that they have signed Grinstead Town, where he has made thirteen Margate forward Sid Sollis on loan until the end of the appearances this season, including in the 4-4 season. draw between his old club and his new one on Sollis had loan spells at Ashford United and Hythe January 19th. Town last season, and indeed made twenty three appearances for the Cannons- sixteen from the bench- scoring six goals. He left Margate for East Grinstead Town in the summer but didn't remain there for long, heading back to Hartsdown Park on the last day of August after only four appearances- and one goal- for the Wasps. .
Dean is joined by midfielder Reece Hallard, who moves from Bostik Premier Division Whitehawk. Reece has made eighteen appearances this season, but has recently spent much of his time on the bench, and moves to the home of the rail-replacement bus service in the hope of more playing time.

NEWS From: Ian Townsend
DORKING SIGN GOLDEN BOOT WINNER Dorking Wanderers have now announced that the striker has moved the relatively short distance from Tolworth to Meadowbank.
OAKS SIGN AZIAYA Sevenoaks Town have announced the signing of former Carshalton Athletic and Hastings United defender Michael Aziaya. Aziaya made twenty four appearances for the Robins in the Premier Division this season, all of them from the bench. He last came on from the bench in the home victory over AFC Hornchurch on 21st January. Last season he made thirty three appearances as the Robins won the South Division title, and also turned out six times for Hastings United.
EMBERY TO HEAD TO THE NATIONAL LEAGUE In an emotional statement, South East Division Herne Bay have confirmed that striking sensation Jake Embery is to leave the club to join National League strugglers Maidstone United. It was undoubtedly expected that Embery would attract attention from higher level clubs. With twenty one goals in thirty matches this season he has the kind of scoring record that any striker would be proud of. He also has three hat tricks- starting with three goals at Arundel in the FA Cup he then went on to score four in victory at Ramsgate, and another four in a win at Greenwich Borough. These add to the twenty three he managed last season- and the five he scored for Sittingbourne the year before.
22
Buchanan has scored fifteen goals this seasonsome way short of the thirty nine he got for Staines Town in the previous campaign - but having now joined the league leaders there's every chance that the total will rise substantially between now and May. Speaking to the Wanderers website manager Marc White expresses his delight at his new signing: “Elliott’s a player we first showed an interest in last summer. He has been a prolific striker at this level of football and he comes into an already competitive squad where, like everyone else, he’ll be playing to earn his place. His arrival offers more attacking options and will give us all a lift for the final eleven games of the campaign.”
TWO NEW ROOKS Lewes quietly announced two new arrivals at the Dripping Pan just before kick off at Carshalton Athletic. First in - and immediately into the side - came right back Mohamed Diallo, who signed from Championship side Stoke City. He's played for City in their Under 18 and Under 23 sides, but was released from his contract by the Potters at the end of January by mutual consent. He was highly rated and a number of City fans expressed surprise at his departure - which will be music to the ears of Rooks fans. He was joined in the squad- and eventually, on the pitch- by former Aldershot player George Tuson-Firth. An Under 23 squad member with the Shots, he has also turned out for AFC Portchester and Salisbury this season, and previously played in Australia for Manley FC.

BREAKING NEWS
STORY CREDIT: NONLEAGUE.TODAY
12th January 2019 Greenwich Boro 2-7 Herne Bay
Bostik League South East club Three Bridges have parted company with manager Martin Dynan.
Highest Attendance
The decision comes following two heavy home defeats in the space of four days.
22nd December 2018 Guernsey 0-3 Three Bridges Attendance: 743
Lowest Attendance 3rd November 2018 Greenwich Boro 0-1 Sevenoaks Town Attendance: 52 Data Source: FootballWebPages.co.uk
Chairman Paul Faili said the decision was one of mutual consent and that he was personally upset to lose such a likeable character. However, having gained just one point from nine games played in 2019 so far, it was perhaps inevitable that a change would be made. Faili himself will resume the role of manager - a role he has held before - whilst the club seek a replacement for Dynan. HASTINGS UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB POLICIES
Customer Charter Full details of our Customer Charter are available at our website: www.hastingsunited.com. These include our policy on ticket and pricing, abandoned matches and our involvement in the Hastings Community.
Health & Safety Hastings United Football Club takes seriously your health and safety during your visit to the Pilot Field.
The Club Believes Customer Care starts on the inside, with a good team of staff and work ethic. Most of our staff are volunteers but The Club expect our staff to always do their best.
Please note that the officers and stewards of Hastings United Football Club will enforce Ground Regulations. A copy of these Regulations is posted at the entrance to each turnstile and within the ground on the wall next to the food bar.
Our staff should remain courteous even in difficult situations. The Club and its staff know they are offering a service and that they would like every customer to return.
Please note that the following are offences under the Football (Offences) Act 1991, as amended: the throwing of any object within the ground without lawful authority or excuse, the chanting of anything of an indecent or racist nature: the entry onto the playing area or any adjacent area to which spectators are not generally admitted without lawful authority or excuse.
We believe that people come first when offering a service.
Under the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985, the following are offences for which a person can be arrested by a police officer: attempting to enter the ground or being inside the ground whilst drunk: being in possession of any intoxicating liquor, or bottle, can or other portable container which could cause damage or personal injury when entering the ground.
We expect our staff to be friendly and helpful and to know their job or be able to call upon someone who is able to respond to the needs of our customers. We expect our staff to give their full attention to a customer in any situation that arises.
In Addition We expect our staff and volunteers to care about their job as this will ensure they care about our customers. We expect our staff and volunteers to treat every customer as they would like to be treated themselves. We in return expect our customers to treat our volunteers and staff with respect and The Club will not tolerate any physical or verbal abused aimed at them.
