A similar warm welcome is extended to today’s three match officials, Referee Greig Walker and his two Assistants, Jack Hobbs and Thomas Price. We return to Pilot Field action this afternoon after picking up maximum points against runaway league leaders Cray Wanderers in the comeback of all comebacks here at the Pilot Field a fortnight ago. The boys could have caved in after going down to two early strikes by Archie Johnson on 3 minutes and Joe Taylor inside 6 minutes. But they didn’t! ... A wonder strike from Sam Cruttwell on 9 minutes followed by an equaliser from Davide Rodari, making his Pilot Field return after recovering from an ACL injury, set the game up for a thoroughly entertaining encounter. Jack Dixon firing into the roof of the Cray net on 56 minutes proved to be the winning goal. What a comeback! The league clash of the season was enjoyed by a crowd of 491 who were left buzzing. A tremendous advert for semi-pro football at any level. Well done boys! Maximum points were also collected from our trip to Three Bridges last Saturday. Again the U’s coming back from conceding early to win 3-1. First-half goals from Gary Elphick, Jack Dixon and Davide Rodari did the job. Today’s visitors currently sit at 10th position in the league table with 38 points from 31 matches. However, the league position doesn’t truly reflect the strength the Rams have in their current squad. They held Cray to a 2-2 draw back in February. Manager Nick Davis is building for the future and has recently put pen-to-paper on a new deal which commits to the Rams for 2019/20. “PPG” TABLES AS OF 24/3/19 Three successive wins have done us the world of good so far as points-per-game are concerned. A couple of weeks ago we were way down, just four places off the basement. Not that there isn't still plenty to do. The vagaries of competing in two tables in one season are illustrated by us being above Ashford in the traditional league table but below them in the latest points-per game table. And in the next column, on the right, is the points-per-game “table” that is made up of the clubs above who, as of last Sunday, occupied the play-off places in the seven step 4 divisions. Plenty to do? Better believe it. Just say for simplicity's sake that the 2nd placed club in each of the step 4 divisions play-off positions (as of last weekend) get through to, and win, their respective finals. Just say the above numbers apply on the final day of the season. It almost certainly won't be like that, we all know what a lottery the play-off system is – but bear with me. United, along with Brighouse of Northern Premier East, would miss out on promotion. We would have gone through the season with all the ups and downs of getting into the play-offs, gone through the massive stress of winning the semi-final only to find winning the final meant nothing because our points-per-game wasn't high enough. I am emphatically not a fan of play-offs, I've only been to one such game – at Dorking Wanderers two seasons ago – and even while being anti play-off, I can still recall all too easily the disappointment at missing out that night. I wonder how that would compare to winning a play-off final only to miss out on promotion because of the tinkering pointed hats of the FA . The FA breezed over all this months ago – but you have to wonder just how in touch these people are with those caught up at the sharp end of decision making like this. Players, coaching staff, club owners and you and me – supporters.

I have unashamedly been cribbing Peter Miller's Twitter updates on this issue (@peter miller36). The overall PPG table here is one I put together and it doesn't quite work out the same as Peter's. Now he's been doing this a lot longer than me so if I have to bow to superior knowledge, then so be it. His table (at the top of the next page) shows United in 17th while I have them 16th, for example. I suspect there are different versions of this table country wide! Whatever - it's scary really to think that the result of a game played 300 miles away on play-off Final day could dictate – if we win our play-offs - which division we find ourselves in next season. And what of the FA (Slogan throughout this last two seasons - “It's only Non-League”) who created this shambles? As it's their numbers that will dictate who misses out – shouldn't they be updating clubs weekly with the latest PPG stats and tables? Yes they should.

Indeed he does! Remember Tommy Osborne from back in the early thousands? A Kent based lad who slotted in all round the Town and United squads, utterly reliable and a good bloke with it. Last seen playing for Hythe 3 or 4 seasons ago. He's on the coaching staff at Cray Valley PM (Southern Counties East) these days and they just got through to the final of the FA Vase after a 2-1 aggregate win over Canterbury City in front of 1279 punters at Faversham's Salters Lane ground where a resurgent City are tenants. Nice one Tommy! Good luck and enjoy a final where PPG has no bearing on the result! It'll be one of those old fangled affairs when whoever scores more goals wins!

Beating Cray was a bit special eh? Especially after the start we made in a game that has to be the best one this season. Two decent sides going hammer and tong, great atmosphere, great goals and a vital three points. And last Saturday at Three Bridges where â&#x20AC;&#x201C; surely not â&#x20AC;&#x201C; we found ourselves behind only to put together yet another come back. I particularly enjoyed that one, as it put right the bad memories of defeat there three seasons ago. Let's keep the recent revival going against Ramsgate this afternoon. And the Rodari revival has been a bit special too! More of that as well!

Ramsgate has had senior football teams within the town since the late-1800s, but despite the paucity of reports in the local press there are match reports for Ramsgate Athletic from 1895. At this time matches were being played on a number of grounds around the town, including the Rams’ current home - Southwood. Football in east Kent closed down during the Great War, and in 1919 the Southwood ground was provided for Ramsgate Town, by then known simply as Ramsgate. In their first season they finished 3rd in the Kent League and reached the Kent Senior Cup final, but lost 1-0 to Northfleet at Maidstone before a crowd of 10,000. In 1924 Ramsgate Town folded and Ramsgate Grenville moved to Southwood and, apart from the appearance and demise a few years later of Ramsgate Press Wanderers in 1932, became the senior Ramsgate side until WWII again brought an end to all football in east Kent. Football resumed after the war and Southwood was taken over by the current club in 1945, then called Ramsgate Athletic, with the pitch being turned through 90 degrees and covers to the terraces and a stand erected from the anti-invasion steelwork from nearby Pegwell Bay. The Club played in the Kent League until it was disbanded in 1959, and were runners-up in the Kent Senior Shield in 1946/47, finalists in the Kent Senior Cup in 1947/48, Kent League Cup winners in 1948/49, followed by winning the League and runners-up in the Kent Senior Shield in 1949/50. In the next golden period, from 1954 to 1957, the Club won back-toback League Championships (1955/56 & 1956/57), with a new attendance record being set in 1955/56 when 5,200 spectators watched the local derby against Margate. They also made Club history when they reached the First Round Proper of the FA Cup for the first time in November 1955, eventually losing 5-3 at Watford, a record that stood for the next 50 years. In 1958/59 the Club also started playing in the Thames & Medway Combination League, winning the Eastern Division that season but finishing

With the demise of the KCFA Kent League in 1959, the Club joined the Southern League, as well as continuing in the Thames & Medway Combination. A new main stand was erected along the southern side of the pitch at Southwood, which is still in use today, and in November 1959 the Rams were visited by Everton to mark the official illumination of the newly installed floodlights – the ‘Toffees’ winning 7-1. In 1967/68 the Club again won the Kent Senior Shield and were runners-up in the Southern League Cup. In 1971/72 they finished runners-up in the League and were promoted to the Premier Division. In 1972 the Club changed its name to Ramsgate but after a decline in fortunes off the pitch the Club were relegated to Division 1 and later resigned from League in 1976, the 1st team taking the Reserves’ place in the new Kent League and in 1988/89 won the Kent Senior Trophy for the 2nd consecutive year and finished runners-up in the Kent League Cup, whilst in 1998/99 the Club was eligible for promotion to the Southern League after winning the Kent Premier League championship, but decided the time was not right, and also won the Kent Senior Trophy and reached the semi finals of the Kent League Cup. The 2004/2005 season saw the Club capitalise on the promise of its successful youth and a tough pre-season programme had the Rams playing (and defeating) 4 sides from higher leagues, including old adversaries Margate. In competitive football the Rams made good progress in the FA Cup, despatching Kingstonian (2 leagues above) before falling in the 2nd half to Dulwich Hamlet (1 league higher), whilst in the FA Vase they again reached the 3rd Round Proper. The best form was saved for the domestic season, where the Rams again did the double, the Kent League Premier Division Cup as well as the Kent League Championship by a clear margin, gaining promotion to the Isthmian League Division 1 South. Summer 2005 saw the Rams start the new era with two further pieces of silverware, beating Herne Bay in the Kent League Challenge Shield and Margate in the Kent Messenger Challenge Cup. The season continued with the Club reaching the 1st Round Proper of the FA Cup, the only Step 4 club in the country to do so that year and equalling the Club record set 50 years earlier.

The Club also won the League at the first attempt, securing back-to-back promotions to the Isthmian Premier for 2006/2007. For most of their first season in the Premier Division the Rams were settled in the ‘play-off spots’ and spent several weeks in 2nd place, but the toll on the squad was noticeable and injuries saw their form dip in the last weeks and they eventually slipped to 9th. This also meant a new record, as the Club had only managed to stay in the Southern League Premier for a single season. 2007/08 saw the Rams set more club records, winning the Isthmian League Cup and also reaching the play-offs for Conference South. For 2008/09 the Club erected new covers to the terraces behind each goal, to replace those erected after the war but removed in the 1970s, however having lost key players an average performance on the pitch dipped in the last months with relegation to Division 1 South. This saw several players leave to remain playing at the higher level, and a much younger Ramsgate team in 2009/10 avoided a further drop as some had predicted. After returning to Division 1 the Rams usually finished near the play-offs until 2013/14 when, after five managers in 14 months, the Rams ended up in 21st place. This saw the return of Jim and Danny Ward for their 3rd spell in charge, almost 20 years since they first joined the Club, and though they were in 2nd place at Christmas the form dropped and the Rams ended up mid-table. A good start in 2016/17 didn’t last and after slipping into the bottom quarter, with 1 point from 3 games over Christmas head coach Lloyd Blackman replaced the Wards. A 10-match unbeaten run saw a mid-table finish reprieve, with Blackman confirmed as gaffer for 2017/18. A season of mixed fortunes saw a lean patch after Christmas with some significant injuries saw the Rams sliding in the table, but another strong finish lifted Ramsgate back towards mid-table. In 2018/19 the Rams dispatched Gosport Boro before Hemel Hempstead stopped them in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup in Herts, while AFC Hornchurch stopped their FA Trophy run in Essex. Following this, and an unbeaten 8 game run in the League, the Rams lost two in a row and Blackman decided to step down, being replaced by former Sittingbourne manager Nick Davis (who played at centre-half and at times captained the Rams in their Ryman Premier days) in December 2018.

Nick Davis (Ramsgate First Team Manager) 36-year-old former central defender, who in his playing days turned out for the likes of Dartford and Maidstone, as well as the Rams in their Ryman Premier days (often skippering the side). Spent 6 years at Sittingbourne with nearly 300 games as a player and then manager before leaving in January 2018. Had a brief spell at Sheppey at the end of 2017/18 and then at Tunbridge Wells at the start of 2018/19 followed by coaching at Phoenix, before taking over from Lloyd Blackman at Ramsgate in December 2018.

Bostik South East side Ramsgate have announced two signings, both from league rivals Hythe Town.

VCD ADD TWO Two new Vickers - both of whom started yesterday VCD Athletic last week made two new signings from South East Division rivals, with the arrivals of keeper Matt Funnell and defender Temi Eweka. Both made their debuts in victory over Herne Bay. Funnell arrived from Sittingbourne, where he made two appearances. Prior to being a Brickie he was a youth player with Crystal Palace and also played for Maidstone United. Eweka came in from Hastings United, where he made six appearances - but he'd been there for less than two months, after signing from Kingstonian - for whom he had signed from VCD in November!

OKONKWO HEADS TO GREENWICH Grays defender heads South East Grays Athletic have announced that defender Geofrey Okonkwo has been released from his contract to join Greenwich Borough. Okonkwo made his Athletic debut at the end of last season, and has become a big part of the first team squad this campaign, making twenty-seven appearances. His last start was in the 2-2 draw with Felixstowe and Walton United earlier this month, and since then he has been a non-playing substitute for Jim Cooper's side.

The first of the new arrivals is Zach Fagan, a defender who made thirteen appearances for the Cannons this season, including in the 1-1 draw against his new club back in November. The second is midfielder / forward Nigel Neita, who has made thirty appearances, scoring five goals.

WANDERERS SIGN CLARKE FROM CASUALS Cray strengthen for the run-in Cray Wanderers, thirteen points clear at the top of the Bostik South East Division, have decided that they aren't strong enough yet! On that note they've just announced the signing of Corinthian-Casuals midfielder Jordan Clarke. Clarke has made 32 appearances for Casuals this season, scoring twice, adding to the eight he managed in the South Division last season and five in 2016/17 - during which he also turned out briefly for East Grinstead Town.

HYTHE BRING IN TWO The Cannons bring in two - from SE Division rivals Hythe Town recently announced two new signings. First in is defender Khanye Ryan-Makhosini, who signs from Sevenoaks Town. He made ten appearances for Town this season, including the nil-nil draw with his new club back in January. His most recent match for Oaks was in defeat to Hythe's opponents today, Sittingbourne. He started this season at Staines Town. Khanye is joined by Whitstable Town forward Tom Walmsley. Tom has made twenty-eight appearances so far this season, scoring five goals. His last appearance was in defeat to Herne Bay on March 2nd. Last season he spent time at Folkestone Invicta.

Haywards Heath Town have announced the signings of Sevenoaks Town striker Kenny Pogue and Brighton & Hove youth defender Cameron Tutt. Pogue has made thirty-one appearances for the Greatness Park side this season, finding the net eight times - including a brace when he featured for Sevenoaks in their 3-2 home defeat to Hastings United back in August. In recent weeks, however, the former Hastings United, Hythe Town and Eastbourne Town striker has been used mainly from the bench - so this move will perhaps give him the chance of regular football, and will also add both firepower and a physical presence as Shaun Saunders side look to first qualify for the playoffs and then earn promotion to the Bostik Premier Division for the first time in their history. Tutt has previously spent some time on loan for Heath, featuring in an RUR cup victory at Hassocks.

Health & Safety Hastings United Football Club takes seriously your health and safety during your visit to the Pilot Field.

The Club Believes Customer Care starts on the inside, with a good team of staff and work ethic. Most of our staff are volunteers but The Club expect our staff to always do their best.

Please note that the officers and stewards of Hastings United Football Club will enforce Ground Regulations. A copy of these Regulations is posted at the entrance to each turnstile and within the ground on the wall next to the food bar.

Our staff should remain courteous even in difficult situations. The Club and its staff know they are offering a service and that they would like every customer to return.

Please note that the following are offences under the Football (Offences) Act 1991, as amended: the throwing of any object within the ground without lawful authority or excuse, the chanting of anything of an indecent or racist nature: the entry onto the playing area or any adjacent area to which spectators are not generally admitted without lawful authority or excuse.

We believe that people come first when offering a service.

Under the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985, the following are offences for which a person can be arrested by a police officer: attempting to enter the ground or being inside the ground whilst drunk: being in possession of any intoxicating liquor, or bottle, can or other portable container which could cause damage or personal injury when entering the ground.

We expect our staff to be friendly and helpful and to know their job or be able to call upon someone who is able to respond to the needs of our customers. We expect our staff to give their full attention to a customer in any situation that arises.

In Addition We expect our staff and volunteers to care about their job as this will ensure they care about our customers. We expect our staff and volunteers to treat every customer as they would like to be treated themselves. We in return expect our customers to treat our volunteers and staff with respect and The Club will not tolerate any physical or verbal abused aimed at them.
