FROM THE BOARDROOM WELCOME For the first time I would like to welcome each and every one of you to the Pilot Field including the officials, management, players and supporters of Sevenoaks Town.

That first line fills me with so much pride, as a local lad being put into the position of Chief Executive Officer of the famous Hastings United is a dream come true and I look forward to pushing forward in this role. Unfortunately joining the Football Club the first piece of business that I had to deal with was the voluntary departure of three of our Directors, David Omerod, Tony Cosens and David Nessling. I would like to put on record a thanks from all at the Club for their work which spans a combined 150+ years and welcome them back anytime, I am sure you will see a couple of them here today! Jo Nesbit, Pat McCrossan and Hayley Clout will remain as Directors and we all share the same spirit, vision and passion if our whatsapp group is anything to go by!

I think Sam is sick of making me cuppas for the countless meetings I have had but I appreciate everyone! I have offered to repay the favour but I am not sure Sam is confident my tea making ability is up to scratch yet! Whilst I am new here, the welcome you’ve all shown drives me to do more for this club, it’s a step up from my previous role at Eastbourne United but as someone who has worked for some of the biggest entertainment companies in the world I feel like the task at hand is something I will relish and do with pride! Today I get to take in my first Isthmian South East League home game in an official capacity and I can’t wait! Well actually there is one family member more excited than me and that’s my nephew who loves coming to this ground, today he gets to come and sit with me and cheer on our mighty U’s!

After today’s game at 5:30pm I will be hosting a Q&A in the Pilot Bar. Hastings United Football Club Limited is delighted to announce that Director Pat McCrossan has accepted the role of Vice Chairman. Hastings United can confirm that David Nessling, David Ormerod and Tony Cosens have decided to step down as Directors of the football club, with David Nessling and Tony Cosens also stepping down from the position of Chairman and Secretary respectively. The Club would like to put on record the huge amount of respect it has for all three men, who have put in combined over a century of service to the Club. Everyone thanks them for their service, and they are welcome to the Pilot Field any time.

CONDON MOVES AGAIN

We are delighted to announce that Director Pat McCrossan has accepted the role of Vice Chairman. No stranger to anyone at the club, Pat McCrossan became an instant supporter of the football club when he moved to Hastings from Canterbury in 2002. In 2005 after attending games as a supporter for a few seasons, Pat stepped up to volunteer and later in 2008 became the Chairman of the supporters club. Adding to the many hats he has worn at Hastings United, Pat has also been Safety Officer and the Public Address Announcer earning those roles in 2010 and 2012 respectively. Pat was honoured to be appointed to the Board of Directors in 2015 by Dave Omerod and today he becomes the club’s Vice Chairman. Billy Wood, CEO “I am delighted Pat has accepted the position and believe his hard work, dedication and love for this club shine through brighter than anyone I have met and with that offering the position was a no brainer. Spending time with Pat it’s obvious why he is liked by all at the Pilot Field and alongside the rest of the Directors he is committed to the task at hand.” Pat McCrossan, Vice Chairman "I am so honoured to be offered this position and I will work my absolute hardest for the club and it’s amazing support. Now he's joined the Nuts and Bolts Aaron Condon has left Aveley, for whom he has made half-a-dozen appearances this season, to sign for Isthmian South East side Ashford United. He made his Nuts and Bolts debut against East Grinstead Town, and scored within five minutes! Condon, a fans favourite at Brightlingsea Regent, left the Taydal at the end of last season to move to Sussex, and signed for Hastings United. He was out of the door at the Pilot Field almost as soon as he arrived, moving to the Millers, for whom he scored one goal - in victory over Romford.

SOLLIS IS A BRICKIE Sittingbourne snap up former Margate striker Sittingbourne have signed former Margate striker Sid Sollis. Sollis is best known for his time at Margate, however was often out on loan. In 2017-18 he had loan spells at Ashford United and Hythe Town, and indeed made twenty-three appearances for the Cannons - sixteen from the bench - scoring six goals. He left Margate for East Grinstead Town in the summer of 2018 but didn't remain there for long, heading back to Hartsdown Park on the last day of August after only four appearances, and one goal, for the Wasps. He then went back on loan at Hythe in February this year, and then moved to Canterbury City in August - but now he's off to Woodstock Park.

GUT FEELING Simon Stoddart A light hearted – and on many occasions, anything but light hearted, look at life here in what is now known as the BetVictor Isthmian League's South Eastern Division. My rants and raves are not connected with the club in any way. BOARDROOM RESHUFFLES, INS AND OUTS Hmmmm. We can be no different from any other club with its ups and downs and ins and outs back there in the deeper recesses of the Boardroom. Generally speaking for myself. I couldn't care less what goes on there provided all is well where it matters to most of us – out there on the pitch. Of course what happens in the Boardroom is important, that's where the club is run from, that's where the crucial decisions are made – but I suspect you and I focus on what happens out there on that Pilot Field pitch. Boardroom decisions have certainly played their part down the years, as with other clubs. People have been involved in running the club for

decades and recent developments have seen Messrs Nessling, Ormerod and Cosens moving on. Billy Wood is the new CEO. I was certainly very happy to see Dave Ormerod back on board four or five years ago and an end to the David Walters regime. Having said that, Walters deserved credit for seeing United through a pretty torrid run which started at the end of the 2002-2003 season when things were as dismal as they have ever been in my time as a supporter. And having said THAT – that lucrative FA Cup run to the Riverside encounter with Middlesbrough in 2012-2013 must have played a huge part in keeping United going. Having said that, 1998-1999 could've been a whole lot better as Mark Gardiner's 5-year-plan to get us into the Football League ended up as an 18 month journey in the opposite direction to relegation by rule book when he fell out with the Southern League over his failed attempt to get us moved over to the Isthmian Premier. To be fair, that wasn't – if memory serves correctly – entirely Gardiner's fault because I'm sure I recall problems elsewhere snowballed from one league to another and plans to move Hastings Town – as we then were – sideways, didn't materialise. We were certainly a lot higher up the pecking order in those days – Southern Premier to the Conference and then the Football League. The three who have recently moved out of the Pilot Field Boardroom were all involved back in those days. Between them they've put in well over 100 years and I have always found them all to be approachable, decent people who put in an awful lot for Hastings Town and United. Of course there will be some things you look back on, shaking your head at decisions but I know I was glad to see them back again a few years ago. Good luck to them all, and AND the same to our new CEO, Billy Wood, who was doing the rounds at VCD a fortnight ago with Pat McCrossan getting acquainted with the United travelling support. Nice touch, that.

How close Jack Dixon was to winning that FA Cup tie here against Worthing! BLANK SATURDAY Not sure I get why there were no South Eastern Division games last weekend. Ok – the FA Trophy's Extra Preliminary Round was scheduled but that only involved six SE clubs. Ashford already have two games in hand and could have made up one of them on a free Saturday afternoon couldn't they? They'll end up playing those two games on Autumn, Winter Tuesday evenings now, which seems a bit odd given that 3pm Saturday slot going begging a week ago? WELSH LEAGUE ODDITY One of the weird and wonderful things of semipro football is how the winners of the Welsh Premier – now known as the JD Cymru Premier – get a Champions League slot. You can see why – after all it's the Welsh nation's top league so the champions get to play Champions League football at the very earliest stages. But can't help being curious wondering what standard that Cymru Premier is. At a guess, somewhere between step 4 and step 3? TNS aka The New Saints have dominated Welsh football for years – bit like Celtic in Scotland. And like Celtic in Scotland, as soon as they come up against European opposition at the end of every summer in Champions League preliminary stages, they usually get found out.

United's reward was an away tie at Barrow where our Trophy interest came to an end with a 0-4 drubbing. At least we didn't have to go up there on a Tuesday night which was what Oswestry had to do for the replay with us in that previous round. 40 years ago! TNS have dominated Welsh football for years – they've won it the last eight seasons but seem to have some competition on their hands now in the form of Barry Town United who beat them 1-0 in front of 286 spectators. Yes – weird and wonderful – 286 attendance for the top two sides of a competition that sees it's winners play Champions League football.

Simon Stoddart ALL CHANGE AT THE TOP – AGAIN Seems to be new leaders of the SE Division every round of games, eh? Our 0-0 draw at VCD Athletic saw us replaced by this afternoon's visitors a fortnight ago. We'd gone top after our excellent midweek win against Whitehawk the previous Tuesday. A really good game between two decent sides playing some fine football in front of a decent midweek attendance of 405. And two fine goals both made by Lanre “ The Assist” Azeez who has carried on where he left off in that play-off semi-final against Ashford

last season. Lanre didn't emerge for the second half a week ago, hopefully he's ok today. Defences cancelled each other out at VCD where 0-0 was probably the right result in a game that was never as good as the Whitehawk one. And what a surprise to see Whitehawk lose at home to Phoenix Sports while we battled out that stalemate at VCD. And Sevenoaks and Ashford both took advantage of us drawing and went above us as the SE division continues to chop and change at the business end.

Sevenoaks away last season. Three ex United faces in their ranks - Frankie Sawyer, Kenny Pogue and Ryan Nichols. Kenny, of course, is an ex United, ex Sevenoaks man who's er back here again! Ryan was at Hythe last I heard, while Frankie is still at Sevenoaks.

SEVENOAKS TOWN FC SNAPSHOT HISTORY PREVIOUS MEETINGS WITH SEVENOAKS TOWN FC

Sevenoaks Town FC. was formed originally in 1883 and was one of the founding members of the Kent League. In 1951, Sevenoaks Town combined with St Johns United and became members of the Kent Amateur league of the western region. In 1965-1966 they won the division one league cup and in 1968/69 they won the Premier Division and won it again in 1975/76. In 1984/85 Sevenoaks Town won the Premier Kent County Football league and again in 1995/96 and 2002/03. Among these trophies, Sevenoaks Town has won the Intermediate Challenge Shield on two occasions, the Inter-Regional Cup twice and the Sevenoaks Charity Cup 12 times. On the 26th of April 1883, Sevenoaks Town played against Royal Arsenal. In the South of England, they were the only professional team. Over 1000 spectators watched this game at Knole Paddock. In the 1900/1901 season, Sevenoaks Town won the Sevenoaks Charity Cup for their first of twelve times. Other more recent successes include: 2002/03 Kent County Primary League Champions 2016/17 SCEFL League Cup Champions 2017/18 SCEFL League Champions 2016/17 FA Cup 2nd round qualifier 2017/18 FA Vase 2nd round 2018/19 FA Trophy 1st round qualifier In recent years the ground has also seen some significant improvements with a new state-of -the-art 3G pitch that was installed in June 2017. There are now plans to build a brand new stadium in the next 2 years. 20

DAVIS DEPARTS Rams boss leaves after poor start Ramsgate have announced the departure of manager Nick Davis. Davis, who took over at the helm at the end of 2018, has overseen a start to the season which has seen FA Cup success - victories over Steyning Town and Arundel seeing the side through to a Second Qualifying Round tie at Hadley. However in the South East Division the story has been much different, with four defeats - three of them at home - and one draw meaning that the Rams sit at the bottom of the table with only one point. It seems that the three-nil defeat at the hands of local rivals Herne Bay was the final straw for the board, who have terminated the contract of their manager with immediate effect. Director & CEO Paul Bowden-Brown said: “Nick has worked professionally and diligently to bring success to this football club, and we are disappointed and saddened that the results have not mirrored this effort.” “We as a club would like to go on record in personally thanking Nick for the way he has represented this club on and off the field and everyone wishes him and his family the very best for the future.”

HYTHE BRING BACK GODMON Keeper returns from the Rams Hythe Town haven't had the best start to the season, but manager Steve Watt has reinforced his side. The new arrival will be familiar to the Reachfields faithful. Will Godmon made forty-five appearances as the Cannons missed out on the Playoffs on goal difference in 2017-18, and started this season at Ramsgate, making nine appearances. He spent last season with Thamesmead Town and Faversham Town, and joined the Rams in July.

NEW CANNONS DUO Hythe Town have strengthened their squad by bringing in a midfielder and a defender. The midfielder arrives from Margate. James Rogers has made only one appearance for the Hartsdown Park side this campaign - in August's three-two defeat at Cray Wanderers, but was a fixture in the Blues midfield earlier in the decade. He began his career at Dover, moving to Hartsdown Park before heading to Dartford. He has also turned out briefly for Folkestone Invicta and Maidstone Utd, but landed back at Hartsdown Park in February 2017. He made twenty-five appearances last season. The defender hasn't played for quite a while. Jamie Coyle was - until recently - joint manager at Dartford, and prior to that was player-manager at Welling, but has been persuaded by Hythe manager Steve Watt to pull on his boots once more.

ANOTHER FORMER DART MOVES TO REACHFIELDS Hythe Town have announced the capture of their second former Dart in forty-eight hours, as striker Alex Flisher joins former Dartford boss Jamie Coyle at Reachfields. Isthmian League followers will remember Flisher from his time at Maidstone United, for whom he made almost three hundred appearances and celebrated a collection of promotions. He was also fairly recently at Margate, initially under his new boss Steve Watt, but his career initially curtailed by injury before recovering to make twentyseven appearances last season. He moved to Princes Park in June, and recently it was announced he'd left the club for 'personal reasons' - and with a ringing tribute from Darts boss Tony Burman. According to Kent Online Sport, the player then contacted Watt and offered his services, and his new manager was delighted to accept the offer, saying, "When a player of his calibre becomes available you have to do whatever you can to make it happen and I'm delighted that he has joined us." Alex along with James Rogers and Jamie Coyle are expected to go straight into the squad for today's game at home to Haywards Heath Town.

ON A NIGHT OF FA CUP DRAMA IT WAS A STEP TOO FAR FOR WORTHING.

ANOTHER PAIR OF BRICKIES Sittingbourne recently signed striker Sid Sollis and he made his mark very quickly, scoring twice in the 4-4 Velocity Trophy draw with VCD Athletic.

Chichester City have had a marvellous start to life in Step Four - but they took their success this season to a whole new level, dumping Hartley Wintney of Southern Premier South out of the FA Cup at Oaklands Way to set up a home Third Qualifying Round tie against Enfield Town.

Also making a debut in that match was Jordan Perrin, a goalkeeper who has signed from Whitehawk. Jordan had only played one match for the Hawks this season, in Cup defeat to Abbey Rangers.

The one hundred and eighty minutes played by the two sides produced only one goal - and it came in the one hundred and fortieth minute, Jamie Horncastle finding the net to send Chi through and spark some green delight!

A third arrival is Adam Woollcott, who makes the short journey from Hythe Town. Midfielder Adam had made seven appearances for the Cannons this season, but still awaits his Brickies debut. He previously turned out for Herne Bay, Ramsgate and Canterbury City, and had been weighing up his options since Hythe announced his departure.

Half an hour along the A27 in Worthing, the outcome was rather different. The Mackerel Men had their chances against National League South St Albans City, but they couldn’t take them - whilst the visitors had no such problem, charging into a three-nil lead before the break. A customary late goal from Worthing - Jalen Jones in the ninetieth minute - was no more than a consolation.

Two more signings for Sittingbourne

TWO NEW ACORNS! Sevenoaks Town sign two Sevenoaks Town have made a fantastic start to the South East Division season. And if you thought they had a strong squad, prepare for it to be stronger still, as they have added Patrick Lee and Renford Tenyue. Patrick has actually been at Greatness Park for a few days, the goalkeeper making his debut in the victory over Hythe Town. Patrick played briefly for Chatham Town when they were last in our league, 2016-17, and also for Harlow Town and Margate the following season. He was Sittingbourne's number one last season, making thirty nine appearances for the Brickies. Renford is a forward who has most recently been at Faversham Town. He has been a mainstay at Faversham for a number of seasons, and has also recently played for Canterbury City.

VELOCITY TROPHY - GROUP 4 UPDATE Group Four had two matches and twelve goals. East Grinstead Town and Burgess Hill Town shared five of them, but it was the Hillians through Andy Briggs, Aaron Smith-Joseph and Ryan Palmer - who got three of them, O’shaye Giraud-Hutchinson getting both goals for the Wasps. Hastings United got five of their own in victory over Three Bridges, and Davide Rodari got three of them, the others coming from James Pool and Tom Chalmers. Andre McCollin and Tom Tolfrey made sure that the goalmouth action wasn’t only at one end.

Health & Safety Hastings United Football Club takes seriously your health and safety during your visit to the Pilot Field.

The Club Believes Customer Care starts on the inside, with a good team of staff and work ethic. Most of our staff are volunteers but The Club expect our staff to always do their best.

Please note that the officers and stewards of Hastings United Football Club will enforce Ground Regulations. A copy of these Regulations is posted at the entrance to each turnstile and within the ground on the wall next to the food bar.

Our staff should remain courteous even in difficult situations. The Club and its staff know they are offering a service and that they would like every customer to return.

Please note that the following are offences under the Football (Offences) Act 1991, as amended: the throwing of any object within the ground without lawful authority or excuse, the chanting of anything of an indecent or racist nature: the entry onto the playing area or any adjacent area to which spectators are not generally admitted without lawful authority or excuse.

We believe that people come first when offering a service.

Under the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985, the following are offences for which a person can be arrested by a police officer: attempting to enter the ground or being inside the ground whilst drunk: being in possession of any intoxicating liquor, or bottle, can or other portable container which could cause damage or personal injury when entering the ground.

We expect our staff to be friendly and helpful and to know their job or be able to call upon someone who is able to respond to the needs of our customers. We expect our staff to give their full attention to a customer in any situation that arises.

In Addition We expect our staff and volunteers to care about their job as this will ensure they care about our customers. We expect our staff and volunteers to treat every customer as they would like to be treated themselves. We in return expect our customers to treat our volunteers and staff with respect and The Club will not tolerate any physical or verbal abused aimed at them.

ON THIS DAY A look back at some of the matches played in past seasons on: Saturday, 5th October.

1957 Three of the top sides in the four divisions failed to win but only one resulted in a change of leadership: Mid-table Leeds United held Division One top side Wolves 1-1 at Elland Road allowing both W.B.A. and Nottingham Forest to move within one point after Albion beat Portsmouth 3-1 while Forest came from behind to edge out Tottenham Hotspur by the odd goal of seven. The divisionâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s only hat trick was scored by Peter Murphy as Birmingham City beat Manchester City 4-0. There was no change at the top of Division Two with none of the first three sides managing a win; leaders Charlton Athletic losing 0-2 at Middlesbrough while second and third placed Fulham and Blackburn Rovers drew 1-1 at Ewood Park. Division Three (South) leaders Plymouth lost 0-1 at Q.P.R. allowing Brighton to take over after beating Newport County 5-3 with goals from Peter Harburn (2), Denis Gordon, Albert Mundy and Dave Sexton.

We, then Hastings & St.Leonards, having drawn 3-3 with Brighton side Old Varndeanians on the upper pitch in the Extra Preliminary Round of the F.A. Amateur Cup the previous Saturday replayed the tie here on the Pilot Field as our opponents school pitch could not take a gate, as required by the competition, and despite playing extra time again drew 3-3 setting up a second replay. This day the original Hastings United played an away league game at Tonbridge in the then one division Southern League where they drew 2-2.

1996 There were no Premiership fixtures and the Nationwide Division One programme was cut to just four matches due to qualifying games for the 1998 World Cup albeit England were not in action until the following Wednesday when they would host Poland. Scotland did play and won 2-0 in Latvia while Northern Ireland were held 1-1 at home by Armenia. The Division One games only involved a few bottom sides but second bottom side Reading did beat Wolves 1-0 while there was also no change at the top of Division Two both Brentford and Watford winning. Carlisle United retained the leadership of Division Three despite being held 1-1 at home by Macclesfield. At the other end of the table a Graeme Jones goal for Wigan Athletic was enough to keep Brighton at the very bottom of the League, two points adrift of three sides above them after eleven matches played.

We, then still Hastings Town, visited Nuneaton Borough in the Premier Division of the Southern League where we lost 1-4 before a crowd of 1,111, our goal scored by Gregory.

2013 With Arsenal not in action Liverpool took over the leadership of the Barclays Premiership after defeating second bottom side Crystal Palace 3-1 with goals from Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez while Manchester City moved up to third place with an identical result at home to Everton, their goal scorers being Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negreda and a visiting defender. The top two in the Npower Championship remained unchanged after leaders Burnley beat Reading 2-1 while Q.P.R. defeated Barnsley 2-0. Leicester City stayed third while Nottingham Forest moved up to fourth after winning 3-1 at Brighton where Andy Crofts had given the Seagulls a first half lead before the visitors struck back. Leyton Orient stayed top of Division One despite being held 1-1 at Oldham Athletic while Chesterfield kept top spot in Division Two despite being edged out 3-4 at Morecambe.

We entertained Brentwood Town in the Preliminary Round of the F.A. Trophy and progressed after winning 3-2 with goals from Rodrigo Branco, Bailo Camara and Kenny Pogue before a crowd of 344 collecting ÂŁ2,500 in prize money.

THE DEMISE OF BURY FOOTBALL CLUB The demise of Bury should be the turning point for football regulation across all levels in the country. On Monday, September 2nd, The Football Supporters’ Association met with the Alliance Committee the National League, Northern Premier League, Southern League and Isthmian League – to put forward proposals on how to protect football clubs. The FSA’s proposals – which they believe should apply to all levels of football including Steps 1-4 in Non-League – have two key principles: the community significnce of football clubs and avoiding conflcts of interest in regulation. The FSA believes the Football Association should be the overall regulatory body following the failure of clubs self-regulating under their respective leagues. It would eradicate conflcts of interest in the way that rules and regulations are set and administered by the leagues, and especially where some of the decisions on the conduct of owners and directors of clubs are taken by the owners and directors of other clubs.“ We will be emphasizing the need for reform of the regulations around ownership of clubs because we want to protect clubs and protect football’s assets from speculators and chancers coming in to the game, ”Andy Walsh of the FSA told The NLP in the wake of Bury’s expulsion from the EFL.“ Football clubs in this country still represent the biggest expression of community identity of any organization in towns and cities up and down the land.“ Some football clubs sit on very healthy assets, pieces of land that their ground has been built on and have been in the club’s ownership for generations. That is quite an attraction to some speculators. Those assets deserve some protection. The FA can provide that. The FA would deter speculators and chancers from taking over our football clubs.“ You can’t expect clubs to regulate themselves. You need some independence in the regulation. We believe the most appropriate regulator is The FA. “The leagues are privately owned entities owned by the football clubs themselves and they are going to be less likely to vote for stronger regulation. “Self-regulation in the EFL has been shown to have failed and it’s now time for The FA to step in and apply that regulatory structure. “If The FA doesn’t step in then it should be government because football clubs are not just like any other businesses, they are cultural and community assets in their local towns and cities and therefore they deserve a greater level of protection.” The FSA are also calling for the Owners’ and Directors’ Test to be strengthened with a more stringent process put in place. “The provisions within the Owners’ and Directors’ Test we believe to be inadequate,” said Walsh, referencing the ownership of Steve Dale at Bury and Bolton’s Ken Anderson. “Those tests clearly need to be strengthened. “We also believe there should be greater scrutiny of spending at football clubs to ensure they are being run in a sustainable manner. “Stewart Day, who owned Bury before he sold to Steve Dale, racked up millions of pounds worth of debts incurred because of overspending. No action was taken by the Football League or The FA. “There needs to be a review of the fiancés in the game. We would argue there needs to be a fairer distribution of wealth but that should be done with in a regulatory framework because we equally do not want to see owners such as the Oystons, who took advantage of their stewardship of Blackpool to enrich themselves. One thing is for certain, we cannot stand still.”
