O U T S I D E OF CLASS Texas Tower PR Student-run public relations agency that works directly with non-profits to advance their philanthropic goals. Last semester, I began my work with them as an account associate for the Texas Exes account. This semester, I earned the title of account executive for the Candlelight Ranch account. This organization has helped me further my skills as a public relations professional in the making.
UT PRSSA The Alan Scott Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America has proven to be one of the best professional organizations on campus. Each week they have new guest speakers that are also industry leaders from around the Austin area. I haven’t taken any PR courses yet, but I feel that being part of this society has allowed me to learn things that I may not be able to learn in a lecture hall setting.
I had a couple of rough moments during my first semester. I think it is amazing how one song could change my outlook on perseverance.

COMMUNICATIONS I got into an interesting debate with a geology major about the validity of communication degree. He insisted that what the world needs at this point in time is more science and math oriented individuals. He mentioned that they were the ones that carried the future of this planet in their hands. Little did he know that he had just reaffirmed the reason behind my decision to pursue communications. The world runs on communication; it’s what keeps it going. Whether one is a speech pathologist, a news anchor, or an advertiser, communication is something that drives and permeates the globe with hope. Communicators open the doors that have been shut for people living in 3rd world dictatorships that censor the news, for children born with hearing disorders, for people who have lost credibility in advertising. As a public relations major I hope to earn a degree from this amazing university and use it to make this world (excuse the corniness) a better place. Wherever I end up working, I intend to use my communication skills to make my place of employment a better, more productive environment. Whether it’s for a non-profit or for a large corporation, I will have the comfort of knowing that my skills and words are having a positive impact on those around me. I don’t mean to bash the power behind a science degree, but I know that communication will always be an important part of the spectrum that blankets society. As I responded to my classmate, I reminded him that when an engineering company launches a new product, the engineers themselves don’t go out into the market to announce it, or that they don’t have to answer to the public when an oil spill reaches ocean waters. At the end of the day, communicators shape this world. I plan to change the world and I couldn’t have picked a better place to start.

I am inspired
By the fictional ad man that showed me that excellence lies in the risks you take, by the billion dollar philanthropist that ruled the television airwaves for 25 years while gifting a couple of cars and opening a school in Africa, by the news figure that always dares to ask the questions that matter the most, and by the once YouTube - Potterhead, now turned Broadway superstar.
They all somehow communicate and radiate everything I aspire to be.
n o i t a c i n u m m Co l i c n cou What interests me as a member? I was drawn to this group of people because I feel we all share our passion for communication. We’re all from different backgrounds, places, cultures, but we can’t hide the common thread that runs through us. My friends in the council can never stop talking about how awesome their “Comm Families” are. In a way, I’m curious to see all the interesting and diverse people I will meet if I’m offered membership in the council. I’m the type of person that is always thirsting for new challenges and new experiences. I believe, I know, that being a part of communication council will present me with experiences and friendships that I will carry with me long after I graduate from the Forty Acres.
Skills Mad Skilled user of image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. Comfortable using video editing software such as Adobe Premier and AfterEffects.
Leadership experience includes National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Theater, Media Club, Student Council, DECA Marketing Association, and serving as Senior Class President and Yearbook Editor.
I consider myself fairly social and definitely a team player. Whatever projects you entrust me with, I’ll be sure to tackle them with a can-do attitude and be ready to listen for everyone’s input and feedback.
As a freshman with already 2 internships under my belt, I have experience working in a professional setting, handling largescale projects, and meeting deadlines.
As a people-pleaser and a detail oriented individual, I put a lot of pride on the work that has my name on it. If a publication carries the Communication Council name, I’d make sure it is held to a high standard.
I see everything as a learning experience, I take everything in and don’t hesitate to ask questions. I know I have a lot to learn about my fellow communication majors and my area of study.
I may seem like I’m all about work, but I always like to have fun. If a job or an organization doesn’t have the “fun” factor in them, then I know I’m not meant to be there. I feel I work hard and play hard.
I feel I’m a good writer. I enjoy writing and the feeling I get when I get to just sit down and write down whatever is on my mind. My current dream job is to write speeches for White House officials.
Communication Council would benefit from my Mexican persuasion! I will bring diversity in every sense of the word... I think I’ll be the only one in Communication Council with a Blackberry and not an iPhone.
There’s very few things I’d be willing to leave my Riverside apartment for... Communication Council is definitely one of them.
