Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Verghese, Chairperson of Hindustan Group of Institutions (HGI) and Chancellor of Hindustan University received the Eminent Engineer of the Nation Award during the 28th Indian Engineering Congress held in Hotel Leela Palace, Chennai from 20th to 22nd December 2013. The programme was inaugurated by Hon’ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee. This Award has been presented in recognition of her contribution in imparting quality education by facilitating creativity and innovative thinking by creating an exclusive learning ambience in the Hindustan Group of Institutions to fuel the students growth as future technologists and scientists. 2. Edupreneur Award 2013 - The Times Group of India The Times Group of India recently launched EDUPRENEURS 2013 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Verghese, Chairperson of the Hindustan Group of Institutions was awarded this prestigious Life Time Achievement Award during the function for her outstanding contribution to the State Education Sector for providing excellent quality and value education in the field of Higher Education on 28th September 2013 at Hotel Taj, Chennai. ICMENC 2013 Centre for Clean Energy and Nano Convergence (CENCON) organised a three-day International Conference on Materials for Energy and Nano Convergence from 4th to 6th July 2013, in collaboration with QSRC, Dongguk University, South Korea at Hindustan University, Chennai. Dr. M. Rajaram, Vice-Chancellor,
Hindustan Young Leaders Conference Anna University was the Chief Guest. Prof. Borje Johansson, Chairman, Noble Prize Committee in Physics, Sweden (2004-2012), and Professor, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden was the Guest of Honor. During the occasion, the Newsletter of Hindustan University “Campus Talk” was released by the Chief Guest.
KCG College of Technology organised Hindustan Young Leaders Conference (HYLC) ’13 in collaboration with UN Information Centre for India and Bhutan on 5th April 2013. The welcome speech was given by Dr. Annie Jacob Verghese. She insisted the importance of involvement of young students in national affairs. Mr. R. Nataraj and Dr. Geetha Madhavan gave inspiring speeches. HYLC aims to bring together outstanding young students from around the world to build critical leadership skills in a global context. HYLC will give college students a great chance to discuss and debate real-time problems in an energy-charged environment. Based on the concept of the Model United Nations, HYLC is a dynamic, vibrant and inspiring platform for creative solutions and challenges that face today’s world leaders. National Level Management Meet MOTO (Managers of Tomorrow) hosted by National Institute of Management Studies (NIMS) was conducted on 12th December 2013. It has created an extraordinary platform for the budding managers from various B-Schools to showcase their managerial skills and provided an opportunity to challenge the best. The Chief Guest of the event was Shri. K. Manickam, Former General Manager of Indian Oil Corporation Limited and President of NIPM. He insisted that managers of tomorrow should equip themselves with 5Cs – Courage, Character, Courtesy, Conviction and Commitment. The Guest of Honour was Dr. A. V. Sivarama Prasad, Executive President of KCP Group Ltd. During the occasion, the Research Journal “NIMS Journal of Management Research” was released by the Chief Guest.
ADCOM 2013 Hindustan University hosted the 19th edition of International Conference on Advanced Computing and Communications (ADCOM 2013). ADCOM is an annual event of the Advanced Computing and Communications Society (ACCS) held in partnership with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), USA. The conference was inaugurated by Prof. H. P. Khincha, Chairman of Karnataka Innovation Council and former Vice-Chancellor of Vishweshwaraya Technological University, Belgaum.
OBERF 2013 A three day National Conference on “Outcome Based Education - A Road to the Future” was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Dr. Kalyani Mathivanan, Vice-Chancellor, Madurai Kamaraj University on 4th December 2013, at Good Shepherd Hall, Hindustan University. Mr. Paul Seller, Director, British Council was the Guest of Honour. The conference was organised by the Department of Languages in collaboration with the Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore and Hindustan University Chapter of English Language Teachers Association of India, Kancheepuram.
Dr. KCG International Film Festival The Department of Media Studies, Hindustan College of Arts & Science organised the Dr. KCG Verghese Memorial International Film Festival in the Bay Range Campus on 27th & 28th February 2013. Mr. S. P. Muthuraman, veteran Tamil Director was the Chief Guest of the Festival.
National Level Contest National Institute of Management Studies and All India Management Association (AIMA) jointly organised the 22nd National Competition for Business Management Simulators for Southern region from 16th to 18th May 2013 at Chennai. The inaugural function was marked by the presence of Guests Mr. D. K. Gupta, Assistant Director, AIMA and Mr. T. Narayanan, Senior Vice President, Daimler Commercial Vehicles.
SEISCON 2013 The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Chennai Network’s 4th International Conference - SEISCON 2013 was organised on 12th December 2013. Mr. Ashok K. Baweja, Head, QUEST, Global Defence and Engineering Services, Former Chairman, HAL was the Chief Guest.
2nd Dr. KCG Verghese Endowment Lecture Hindustan University in association with the Madras Management Association organised the 2nd Dr. KCG Verghese Endowment Lecture at Hotel Accord Metropolitan, Chennai on 18th December 2013. Dr M.Y.S. Prasad, Distinguished Scientist & Director, Sathish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota was the Chief Guest.
KCG Women’s Conference—‘Passion and Purpose’ was organized on 16th March 2013 at KMC Auditorium, KCG College of Technology, Chennai. Rachel O’Hara, Vice Consul, US Consulate, Chennai was the Chief Guest. The Special Guest was Ms. Sharmistha Mukherjee, the celebrated kathak artist who has performed all over the world. She is the daughter of His Excellency, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, President of India.

Google Day Google Day was organised on 9th November 2013 at Hindustan University. GDayX is a gathering of some of the best speakers and entrepreneurs in the country. The event was organised by GBG CHENNAI supported by Google. There were 9 sessions held by different speakers on different topics. There was also a separate session held for entrepreneurs. 350 delegates participated in the programme.
International Seminar on Airworthiness & Flight Safety School of Aeronautical Sciences, Hindustan University and The Aeronautical Society of India, Chennai Branch organised a National Level Seminar on “Airworthiness & Flight Safety” on 19th & 20th September 2013. Shri. P. S. Krishnan, Distinguished Scientist & Director, ADE was the Chief Guest. He addressed the gathering on the need of airworthiness and released the University Magazine “Hcellence 2013”.

Centre for Defence Technology Studies—Annual Lecture The Inaugural Lecture on “India’s Cyber Security Challenges” was delivered by Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Prakash Menon, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, Ministry Advisor in the National Security Council, Secretary and Former Commandant, National Defence College, New Delhi on 29th July 2013.
International Workshop on Cloud Computing and Aneka Platform Departments of CSE, IT and ECE, KCG College of Technology jointly organised International Workshop on Cloud Computing and Aneka Platform under the banner of IET on 22th February 2013 in association with Manjrasoft. The resource person was Dr. Sita Venkatraman, University of Ballarat, Australia.

KCG Bazaar 2014 The Entrepreneurship Development Cell of KCG College of Technology organized the KCG Bazaar 2014 on the 15th and 16th of March, 2014. The aim of the Bazaar was to serve as a platform for the Engineering students to hone their business and trading skills. The Bazaar attracted 240 students to test their entrepreneurial potential. KCG Bazaar 2014 was inaugurated by Dr. R. Natarajan, Joint Director (Retd.), Development of Industries and Commerce, Chennai.
ACM ICPC Contest 2013 The School of Computing Sciences of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science hosted the Multi Provincial (National Level) ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest in the campus on 19th October 2013. Hindustan University is the second institution in South India and first in Chennai to host this contest. 150 teams registering and 76 teams were accepted after scrutinization through ACM procedures. Dr. D. Janakiram, Department of CSE, IIT Madras & Chair, Chennai ACM Chapter was the Chief Guest.

Accreditations NAAC – B Grade Hindustan University
NAAC – B++ Grade HCAS
National Assessment Accreditation Council (NAAC) Peer Committee visited Hindustan University from 28th to 30th May 2013. The University received “B Grade” from the NAAC. HITS score was higher than many reputed institutions.
Hindustan College of Arts and Science received B++ Grade from the National Assessment Accreditation Council (NAAC) on 31st October 2012.
IET Certificate programme - KC Tech KCG College of Technology, Chennai received the Academic Affiliate Certificate awarded by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), United Kingdom on 11th October 2012. The IET is one of the world’s leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community, and provides a global knowledge network to facilitate the exchange of ideas and promote the positive role of Science, Engineering and Technology around the world. Prof. Christopher J. James, Professor, Healthcare Technology and Director, Institute of Digital Healthcare, University of Warwick, United Kingdom, was the Chief Guest and Mr. Shekhar Sanyal, Country Head and Director, IET India, was the Guest of Honour.
IAO Accreditation Hindustan University Hindustan University was accredited by International Accreditation Organization (IAO) on 18th June 2013. IAO is an international quality assurance agency, working to improve quality assurance standards of organizations all over the world. With its global network of experts, IAO grants accreditation to educational institutions, corporations, professionals and qualified individuals.

The Sias International University, China MoU was signed by Dr. Linda Fraser Jacobsen, Provost and Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Verghese, Chancellor on 24th September 2013 for academic collaboration.
An agreement was made between the Deakin University, Australia and Hindustan University, Chennai on 2nd September 2013 to promote activities and projects of mutual interest.
The Hindustan College of Arts & Science has signed an MoU with the Open University, Malaysia on 26th February 2013 for starting the Post Graduate Diploma program in Computer Science.

Hindustan University signed MoU’s with Hansei University, Woosuk University, Jeonju University, and KOTRA in Korea in the Academic Year 2013 for exchange of Students for Study, Exchange of Faculty for Teaching and Research, Joint Research Projects, Internship Placement, Joint Professional Training, and Participation in Lectures and Symposia.
A MoU was entered with Riga University, Latvia, Europe and Hindustan University, Chennai on 15th February 2014 for Exchange of Students and Faculty, Exchange of Research Scholars, Joint Research, Exchange of Educational and Research Materials, Publications and Academic Information.
Hindustan University received Ford EcoSport Car worth of Rs. 15 lakhs from Ford India Ltd. for the research purpose. It is an export model, with left hand drive and a petrol version of four cylinder MPFI engine. Prof. P. J. Kurien, Hon’ble Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha unveiled the car on 24th February 2014.

KCG College of Technology has signed an MoU with BSNL in July `2013. Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Director & CEO of Hindustan Group of Institutions with BSNL Authorities.
A MoU was entered between Hindustan University and IEEE on 24th January 2014 for establishment of collaborative academic and research interaction.
A MoU was entered between HIET Polytechnic and Volkswagen Group for the Sales Consultant (VGSCP) and Service Advisor Programme (VGSAP) on 27th January 2014.
Hindustan College of Arts & Science is the sole authorized Training Centre for Training and Conducting Examinations leading to Check Point Certification in India. Check Point is the Leader in Enterprise Network Firewall Magic Quadrant for 16 years. Its Headquarters is in Israel.
Centre for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence System (ROBOARTIS), Hindustan University and Yaskawa, India (Robotics Division) will be establishing the lab for Research and Development, Industrial Consultancy and Advanced Training in the field of Robotics and Automation. It is a leading manufacturer of Industrial Robotics & Factory Automation Systems in Japan. MoU with Yaskawa will be signed in April 2014.
Department of Electronics and Instrumentation, Hindustan University in collaboration with the Intel Corporation inaugurated the Centre for Excellence on 12th February 2014. The students are trained by experts on Intel ATOM Processor and develop applications using either Open Source / Certified Software.
NBA – B Grade KC Tech National Board of Accreditation (NBA) Peer Committee visited KC Tech from 29th to 31st July 2011. KCG College of Technology received B Grade from the NBA.

Pals Award 2013 Hindustan University team emerge winners of the Pan IIT Alumni Leadership Series 2013 (PALS 2013) on 29th March 2013 at IIT Madras. The PALS 2013 organised by IIT Alumni Club Chennai, in partnership with Pan IIT Alumni India, to help enhance the quality of engineering education on other campuses. It also seeks to improve the industry readiness of students graduating from these institutes.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) signed a MoU with Hindustan University, Chennai on the event of the launch of Toyota Sales Education Foundation (TSEF) on 15th November 2013. Hindustan University is the first institute in South India with whom TKM has entered into MoU with respect to the TSEF program.

Alumni Meet Hindustan University organized its Annual Alumni Meet at MGR Auditorium, Padur Campus, on 9th November 2013. Alumni Association of Hindustan University (HITS), installed in the year 1993, was recently christened Hindustan Alumni Association (HITSAA). He is a Professor in System Visualization, MIT, USA and author of the book “E-mail Revolution”. The event was organized by the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Hindustan University.

Hindustan University hosted the Southern Level Regional Jury of Transparence – 2013 conducted by Saint Gobain Glass on 28th November, 2013. Transparence is a design competition conducted by Saint Gobain Glass in association with Ethos every year with different design problems. The work done by Gaurav, Tridip and Trena Jenifier from the School of Architecture, Hindustan University, won the Best Studio Project.
Formula SAE is an International Educational Event conducted in Europe. The Formula SAE Italy & Formula Electric Italy 2013 conducted from 13th to 16th September 2013 at Riccardo Paletti Circuit, Varano de Melegari, Italy. A team of 14 students under the faculty assistance by Dr. M. Subramanian, Head, Automobile Engineering participated in the event.
10 students from MBA - General Management, Hindustan University participated in the Biennial Conference of the Association of BRICS Business Schools (ABBS) in Shanghai, China from 22nd to 29th October 2013. IETKCTECH, the Student Chapter of Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) (UK) at KCG College of Technology, Chennai bagged 20 awards in various categories in the IET YP Ambition and Achievement Awards Ceremony 2013 held on 19th October 2013 at Hotel Royal Plaza, Chennai. Out of these awards, 6 awards are for professional members and 14
for student members. Moreover KCG’s student chapter was awarded for the “Icon Event of the Year 2013’ for the event “Project Challenge 2013”. In addition “Most Dynamic Chapter 2013” and Overall Championship Rolling Trophy was also awarded to IETKCTECH.

Internship at Berlin Young Technology Faculty Award
Ms. Srinidhi, 2nd Year Student from the School of Architecture, Hindustan University attended Semester Exchange Programme in the Academic Year 2013 at Berlin University, Germany.
Six students (Aasish Chandramouli, Mithun George, Rizvan M, Ishita N, Buvaneshwari, Manohar Guttula) and two faculty (Mr. DineshKumar and Mr. Karunakaran) of Team Recon from the School of Aeronautical Sciences, Hindustan University represented India at the 6th Mission of the International Aerial Robotics Competition organised by The Association of Unmanned Vehicle System International in Beijing, China from 2nd to 4th August 2013. The model exhibited is supported by 4 ultrasonic sensors and 3 cameras. The vehicle had a unique “H” design which had more performance efficiency than the “X” designs. The team had won the title “International Academic Exchange Award”.

NASA Tech Briefs (USA)—Create the Future Design Contest 2013 The following Hindustan University Projects secured one of the Top Ten most popular entries out of 1,354 entries in the NASA Tech Briefs-Create the Future Design Contest 2013. The projects prized with a Sphero Robotic Gaming Ball. The result is available at http://contest.techbriefs.com/2013/top-votes a. Solar Powered Road Cleaning Robot—1st Place Dr. D. Dinakaran, Professor, School of Mechanical Sciences developed a Solar Powered Robot. It secured the 1st place in the Contest. Waste disposal is a crucial problem in developing countries particularly in India due to heavy population. Presently sanitary workers are using the outdated and crude devices like brooms, iron plates and bamboo baskets for primary collection of solid waste. As a solution to manual primary waste disposal, a cost effective garbage cleaning robot is developed.
The students from Bhutan organised the get together on 23rd September 2012 in the Hindustan University Campus. Over 100 students participated in the Sports and Cultural Events in their traditional attire.
b. Tsunami Coastal Communication & Warning System (TuCoWaS)—2nd Place Mr. Sudalai Muthu T., Asst. Professor, School of Computing Sciences developed this system which secured 2nd place in the contest. The aim of this project is timely audible dissemination of the impending disasters. As conventional communications often fail during such calamities, a standalone failproof communication system caters to cyclones, tsunamis, floods and seismic threats through dissemination of timely and automated loud warning sirens.

c. A Night Safety Alert Messaging System for Vehicles Using Vehicular Adhoc Networks (NSAMSV)—6th Place Mr. Thangakumar J, Asst. Professor, School of Computing Sciences developed this system which secured 6th place in the contest. The aim of the project is to avoid major road accidents at night due to the breakdown or unauthorized parking of heavy motor vehicles on the highway. d. Multifunctional Bed for Quadriplegia Patients—7th Place Mr. G. Muthukumaran, Associate Professor, School of Electrical Sciences developed this system which secured 7th place in the contest. The objective of the project is to help physically challenged individuals having both hand and leg impairments to operate their bed and its movements through voice commands. e. A Novel Counting Device for Domestic Pressure Cooker for Hearing Impaired (CoDePec)—8th Place Mr. G. Muthukumaran, Associate Professor, School of Electrical Sciences developed this system which secured 8th place in the contest. This invention can be used in household cooking for the benefit of hearing impaired community, who are unable to hear the whistling sound of the cooker. This particular invention, involves a counting mechanism for counting the number of times the cooker whistled (weight lifted) and display the status of the food which is being cooked.

Young Scientist Award 2013 Hindustan University presents “The Hindu Young Scientist Award 2013” in association with Space Education through Travel Kids India on 14th and 15th February 2014 at Andromeda Lecture Theatre, Hindustan University. School of Aeronautical Sciences, Hindustan University organized a Special Lecture for Aerospace Day on 7th January, 2014. The Chief Guest Mr. Sehagari Rao, Distinguished Scientist and Associate Director SHAR, ISRO, Sriharikota. He gave the lecture on progress of PSLV and GSLV. The Guest of Honour Mr. V. Krishnamurthy Former Scientist, ISRO delivered a lecture on safety of the Air Vehicle Launch and the problems involved due to debris in space.
The School of Management Studies and Aeronautical Sciences celebrated Aviation day on 7th December 2013 at Hindustan University. The Chief Guest was Mr. H.S. Suresh, Airport Director, Airports Authority of India, Chennai. He spoke about “Current Scenario in Civil Aviation Industry”. The Guest of Honour Mr. Rabindranath, Deputy General Manager(Security), Air India, Chennai insisted on the Security issues in the Aviation Industries.

X’MAS Cake Mixing Ceremony PRANAM, Hindustan Hospitality Club organised the X’mas Cake Mixing Ceremony on 11th December 2013 at Hindustan University.
Onam Hindustan University celebrated PONNONAM – 2013 on 7th September 2013 at MGR Hall. Renowned Film Actor Mr. Ashokan was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Verghese, Chancellor, Hindustan University presided over the function.
Chamayam Staff and students from Hindustan University organized ‘Chamayam 2013 – A competition of Pookolam’ on 12th and 13th September, 2013. The competition comprises of two categories, one on floral decoration which uses only flowers and leaves and the other on technology and innovation, a creative way of decoration which uses only waste material.

Blood Donation Camp Hindustan Group of Institutions and Madras Voluntary Blood Bureau jointly organised various blood donation camps in 2013. HRM Y’s Men, Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese inaugurated the Blood Donation Camp at HIET, Padappai. 810 Students and Staff donated their blood to the Hospitals.

He released the first Audio Cassette which was received by Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Verghese, Chancellor, Hindustan University and Mr. Ashok Verghese, Director, Hindustan University.

Fiesta 2013 – Freshers’ Meet was conducted on 18th September 2013 at MGR Auditorium, Hindustan University. Mr. Rajesh Subramaniam, Director–HR, CTS was the Chief Guest. It is an Ice Breaking Ceremony and provides a platform for every budding talent to showcase and perform.

Yarona 2014 YARONA 2014, the Annual Inter-Departmental Cultural Fest held on the 20th & 21st February 2014, which hosted about 31 events for the students and about 8 events for the staff. The programme started with the Inaugural Ceremony. The Chief Guest for the day was Mr. Guru Ramesh a Film Maker, and the Guest of Honour Ms. Maanu a Film Actress of the Fame Kadhal Mannan.

Nokia India Fest 2014 The Cultural Event Nokia India Fest 2014 was organised at Hindustan University on 20th December 2013. It is the first of its kind pan India college festival initiated by a youth brand. The initiative was undertaken to create a National Level platform for students from all fields and turfs to congregate under one roof. An opportunity for students to showcase their talent in the fields of art, literature, music, sports, dance theatre and more.

The Convention will be attended by more than 1000 delegates from across nations.
