11 FOUR KEY AMBITIONS OF MULTI-FUNCTIONAL UNDER VIADUCT REGENERATION

Walking Connectivity

One of the problems with the current walking experience is the lack of accessibility. There are a total of 6 places where people are prevented from walking. By breaking down these barriers, the fragmented walking spaces will be linked into a linear space, greatly enhancing the walking experience.

There are three problems with the site, which are common to most waste spaces next to the viaduct: lack of sunlight, rainwater pollution and noise pollution. In order to solve the three problems the following green solutions are proposed:

- Green anti-noise barriers

- Overpass Rainwater Purification

- Green power generation

Spontaneous protection and green power generation

In terms of enhancing the lighting of the linear walkway, I propose to provide green energy for lighting the space under the viaduct. Based on technology comes from research at Wageningen University, a microbial power plant technology to produce the electricity, which is collected and stored and transferred to the bridge for lighting.

Multifunctional Recreation

In order to meet the diverse needs of the surrounding population, three main functional spaces have been designed within the linear trail: a sports pitch, a marketplace, a theatre space and, a green energy farm. These outdoor events combine with the sustainable facilities to create an public welcomed, safe, multi-functional linear space.

The function of these small gardens is to collect and purify the drainage from the bridge. They help to recycle and reuse rainwater, and the beautiful plants attract visitors.

These broken floors are actually the original appearance of the ground under the bridge. The native plants that grew on them are a valuable resource to complement the city’s biodiversity and have been preserved.

There will be dining areas under the bridge for visitors to rest and gather, and the electricity consumed in these areas will be provided by green power plants.

ROUNDABOUT THEATRE & GREEN STREET

This area is located in the middle of the walkway design and is currently a busy traffic roundabout. In order to ensure the safety of pedestrians, this roundabout area has been designed to be more suitable for pedestrian use rather than vehicles. With colourful paving, urban furniture and shade trees, visitors are welcomed to the area for rest, conversation and outdoor activities. In the centre of the site is a theatre which will be a popular venue for performances in the future. Again most of the plants here are planted in green power modules, and these plant cells produce the electricity needed for lighting.

This is a popular walking area during the holidays, where you can see great musical performances and plays.

This is a traffic hub on weekdays. Be careful when driving through it, as it is a popular destination for the neighbourhood.
