Caring for Community Cats
CATS HARD AT WORK a Life-saving Solution
The Working Cat Program is just one of many initiatives aimed at saving the lives of cats in our community! Previously known as the Barn Cat Program, it began in answer to a serious issue. At that time, some feral cats receiving TNVR services at the Animal Hospital could not be released back into their neighborhoods for a variety reasons. Other cats came to the shelter as strays but were not socialized enough to be adopted into homes. HSTB thought of a solution that solved both problems, the Working Cat Program. Since June 2019, 710 working cats have been adopted.
Working cats are semi-social cats that would be unhappy in home environments but thrive in barns, warehouses, sheds, breweries, etc. where they provide free rodent control, farm animal companionship, and overall cuteness! Barn cat adopters provide these cats a second chance, daily food and water, and safe, cozy places to live out their lives.
One of the establishments that takes advantage of the working cat program is Magnanimous Brewing! They adopted four cats (pictured at right) for their various locations of breweries to keep the rodents away and bring joy to staff and guests. With the community coming together, the Working Cat Program will continue to save lives.
2022 SPAKITTY DINNER a Delicious Success
2022 SpaKitty Dinner, the annual spaghetti dinner held to honor and fundraise for the TNVR program, was a great success! It was originally scheduled for November, but Hurricane Nicole had other plans. It was rescheduled for January 11 th and no one was deterred. It was a wonderful night of delicious food from Ava, beautiful music from Ray Gurka Music, and a silent auction. We are thankful for everyone who came out to celebrate the feral cat community!
