Sage

Many may remember Sage, the poor puppy found by a good Samaritan eating from the garbage with a metal chain embedded so deeply into her flesh it was ripping through. Sage needed immediate surgery to remove the chain and repair the injured tissue. While Sage has physical scars that will never fade, she returned to being a happy three-month-old puppy.

Sage attracted the attention of Marvel actor and former professional wrestler Dave Bautista (pictured above right and below), who came in to adopt her shortly after seeing HSTB’s social media post about her story! A life-long pitbull lover and advocate, he wanted to give Sage, now named Penny, the life she deserved. And he has!

It has been over one year since Dave adopted Penny, and she is far from the scared, injured, and alone puppy she was when she came to HSTB. Penny is the happiest, sweetest pup who loves to run around with Dave and play with her pitbull siblings, Ollie, Maggie and Tallulah. It is apparent that Penny loves her life and we couldn’t be happier that her superhero came to save her. A big thank-you to Dave and all those who rescue, adopt, and advocate for pit bulls.
