“It all started in a Jersey City Starbucks in 2014.” One rescue flier on a wall at Starbucks was all it took for Bubbles and her sister, Misty, to find their forever home! After five years in Jersey City, the whole family packed up and took a long road trip south to Tampa. Bubbles loves the Florida life and enjoys watching birds from her screenedin porch, sleeping on books, and basking in the love of her family.

FIONA, HUSTON & DAISY Winning Threesome Returns! Fiona, Huston and Daisy are no strangers to HSTB’s annual Pet Photo Contest. They were in the 2023 calendar and made the top 12 again for 2024! Their humans say they are the sweetest pups and add so much joy and laughter to the home! The trio loves going to the dog park to play with their friends and cuddling on the couch with their forever family.

“Between his sweet eyes and his goofy personality, I knew Arnie was mine the moment I met him.” Arnie was brought to HSTB when his owner became homeless. As fate would have it, Zachary was looking for a friend for his rescue dog (Ziggy), and was immediately smitten with the sad-eyed pup. Now in his forever home, Arnie loves fetching tennis balls, snuggling his blanket, and playing with his very best buddy, Ziggy.

A Mom’s Best Friend! Duncan the Dachshund is the life of the party in his forever home! He loves any and every kind of food, playing fetch, destroying toys, modeling for Instagram, going on car rides, sleeping, and swimming. But most of all, Duncan loves HIS MOM. The pint-sized pup keeps her smiling and on her toes with his adventurous spirit, curious mind, and loving heart.

Love at First Sight! Buddy came to HSTB after being rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico. His mom was going blind, and was looking for a dog who could be trained as her seeingeye dog. As soon as she saw Buddy, she sensed a kindred spirit and knew he was the one! She’s determined to help him forget his difficult past by spoiling him every day. He is already in service training and is doing very well; his mom is so proud!

When Fate Smiles At just two years old, Piper found herself pregnant and living on the streets. Though she had to give birth all alone, she and her puppies were rescued and taken to a shelter soon after. In the meantime, Ron and his dog were looking for a new family member but hadn’t found the right fit. That all changed when Ron saw Piper. His gut told him she belonged with them and he adopted her the next day.

“The Light of our Life!” Willow, a lab/basset hound mix, was rescued from a bad situation at ten weeks old. Eleven years later, she is still the light of her rescue family’s lives. They absolutely adore her and say she brings happiness and joy to everyone she meets. Her gentle ways can melt even the hardest of hearts!

Three’s a Charm! Freddy, Bailey and Mickey’s parents are so glad they decided to take a chance by adopting not just one, but three homeless dogs! As each pup was added to the pack, the bonds just became stronger and the family was complete. Their parents hope that others thinking of adopting multiple pets will look to this charming trio as a perfect example of how well it can work.

The Good Life! Spanky was rescued at six months old and his mom (Kayla) has been spoiling him ever since. Now a sweet senior at the age of 16, Spanky is still the center of Kayla’s world. Dogs just seem to get better with age and Spanky is no exception. According to Kayla, with Spanky, life is GOOD!

Thanksgiving
“A true angel sent to us.” Mark and his wife were devastated when their beloved dog, Indy, was killed in an accident. They were still reeling with grief when Marlie came into their lives, unexpectedly. He filled their home with laughter and joy and helped ease their pain. Marlie is mostly white, which is very unusual for a sheltie. But his family knows it isn’t just a glitch in DNA ... their Marlie is an angel in disguise sent to heal their broken hearts.

2024 PET PHOTO CALENDAR CONTEST
“Written in the Stars.” Dallas was adopted from a rescue league in 2010 and seemed to know immediately that he was home. His family reports that he is the sweetest and most loving companion, winning hearts wherever he goes. Little did they know the important role he would play in saving the life of another animal in need. When the family moved to Florida they lived in a neighborhood with feral cats. Over time, the kind family won them over and made the kitties part of the family. But, there was one cat (Boudicca) who was too afraid to be loved, and too hesitant to let people help her – until she met Dallas. It was love at first sight and Boudicca began to follow Dallas on all his walks. One happy day, she followed him right into the house and never left. Five years later Boudicca and Dallas still cuddle all day and sleep nestled together all night. Their bond is almost magical – as if they are two halves of the same whole – even blending as one when they sit together. It was evident from the beginning that Dallas was meant to be with his family and that his life had a purpose; perhaps it was to save the life of a lonely feral cat.
