2024 GREATER CINCINNATI HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN DINNERDear Friends:
Welcome to the 2024 Greater Cincinnati HRC Dinner. We are excited to be gathered with many outstanding LGBTQ+ advocates and allies within the Greater Cincinnati/NKY region. It is incredibly heartwarming that we are all united in achieving the goal of fundamental equality for all LGBTQ+ people. We’re all in this fight, facing unique and complex challenges to exist and thrive. The Human Rights Campaign works tirelessly to fight those political and legal battles on every front and in every great state in the country.
As we gather together tonight, we affirm one another and celebrate our resilience and strength in the face of continued anti-LGBTQIA legislation. Here in Ohio, the heinous HB 68, an assault on gender-affirming care, was passed into law with a House and Senate override of the governor’s veto. Though this is an incredible setback, HRC and our statewide partners are fighting back and ensuring our community can receive the best care possible. To that end, HRC Cincinnati partnered with one of our dinner co-chairs, Councilmember Reggie Harris, to sponsor a town hall to discuss the impacts of HB 68 and the resources that are available to help navigate the devastating legislation.
We have a lot of work to do. We uplift our transgender/non-binary youth to live lives that lovingly respect their identities by creating programs and services that affirm their right to exist as they are. We actively champion the right for women to have autonomy over their bodies, and we celebrate enshrining access to abortion and reproductive healthcare here in Ohio with the successful passage of Issue 1! We continue to push for meaningful gun reform in hopes of significantly reducing violence in all forms in our city and country. We also applaud the work of former Councilmember Liz Keating for championing local common-sense gun legislation.
Tonight is a night for us to engage in fellowship, recharge, and continue to work to achieve a world free of systemic bias. We strive for a world of opportunities for everyone regardless of “sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression, age, color, religion, disability status, military status, familial status, marital status, or ethnic national or Appalachian regional origin.”
We thank you for your continued proactive support of LGBTQ+ equality. We thank our Greater Cincinnati Steering Committee members, Board of Governors, Board of Directors, and local volunteers for your work this past year. We want to thank our Corporate Sponsors, donors, dinner chairs, volunteers, and you all for helping to make tonight’s event one of the most successful dinners we’ve ever had. We thank all our local, state, and national elected officials who attend and continue to support us daily in their respective roles. Whether you’re joining us from Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, or beyond, thank you for celebrating tonight. We sincerely hope you enjoy the program we have thoughtfully put together and hope this is a fresh reminder that we see, hear, and love you as you are. We have a purpose -- to achieve LGBTQ+ liberation…without exception.

Jelani Alladin (He/Him) is a fast-emerging star who is establishing himself across television, film and theater. Alladin recently starred in Showtime’s Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominated limited series, FELLOW TRAVELERS, alongside Matt Bomer, Jonathan Bailey, Noah J. Ricketts and Allison Williams. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Mallon, which was expanded and adapted for television by Ron Nyswaner. Alladin plays ambitious Black reporter, ‘Marcus’, created specifically for the television series, contending with D.C. racism and some of his own femme-phobia as he falls for a drag performer, Frankie (Ricketts).
The A.V. Club called Alladin’s performance “a revelation”. Upcoming, Alladin will star in the independent feature BENEATH THE FOLD, a gritty story about the dying days of print media. Set at the tail end of the 2007-2009 financial crisis, a team of local news people cope with the realities of a changing world, waning resources, and a clash of personalities.
Previously in television, Alladin has appeared in THE WALKING DEAD: WORLD BEYOND for AMC, LAW AND ORDER: SVU, as well as FBI. In film, Alladin starred in Netflix’s TICK, TICK... BOOM and MGM’s RESPECT in 2021. On stage he was last seen as Hercules in Public Work’s musical adaptation of Disney’s HERCULES.

FROZEN earning him a Drama Desk nomination for Best Leading Actor and a Drama League nomination for Distinguished Performance. Other credits include audiobooks for New York Times notable MY GOVERNMENT MEANS TO KILL ME by Rasheed Newson and BOYS COME FIRST by Aaron Foley.

Most recently, Nyswaner created and produced the Showtime miniseries Fellow Travelers, starring Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey. Based on the novel by Thomas Mallon, the love story and political thriller follows the volatile romance of two men who meet in 1950s Washington DC, just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn initiate the Lavender Scare, declaring war on “subversives and sexual deviants.”
The series chronicles queer American history, tracing the lovers, their friends and family through the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism and the White Night Riots of the 1970s, and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.
Nyswaner’s feature films include Philadelphia, My Policeman, Freeheld, Smithereens, Mrs. Soffel, Soldier’s Girl, and The Painted Veil. In television, he has written and produced on the acclaimed series Ray Donovan and Homeland. 2024 GREATER CINCINNATI HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN DINNERBritton, originally of Dayton, OH, moved to Cincinnati in 2004 to attend CCM at university of Cincinnati. Since then, he has danced with Cincinnati ballet and les Ballet Trockadero! Since retiring he found a passion in drag and started performing everywhere he could. Kicking, splitting and cartwheeling his way all around the tri-state, Britton aka Brock Leah Spears has become a household name in our local community. In his spare time, he spends his time working with Queen City Charities as a board member and performer!
Molly Mormen/Michael Wilson (she/her and he/him)
Molly Mormen is a Cincinnati staple who performs extensively throughout the Midwest and across the United States and Canada. Queen, empress, and sister, she’s an original Cincinnati 3-way!
Equal parts camp and kindness, Molly is known to do anything for a dollar. Ask to see her worm or a magic trick – you never know when her eyebrows will disappear mid-show. This quick-tongued beauty is here to make you laugh and can’t be topped, literally.
Growing up Mormon in Utah fostered a passion for helping others live, laugh and love! Her feel-good shows are sure to bless your life (or at least your heart) and keep you coming back for more! When she’s not hosting charity events or eating tacos, you can catch her hosting monthly shows at BrewDog in downtown Cincy, at Crossings in Lexington, and anywhere else that will book her!
She has a passion for helping others and has served on multiple non-profit boards and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars benefiting local LGBTQ+ communities.
Molly MormenNative to the Cincinnati area, Preston has been writing and performing live since 2007, and recently was a performing member of the Illharmonic Hip Hop Orchestra (New York), and co-founder of the Cincinnati Hip Hop Orchestra. Performing as a solo artist he adds a twist to how the violin is played. Using fx pedals and a looper, he creates his own beats live and solos over top of them, switching between his originals and popular titles. Making the mood and setting the tone are his favorite things to do.
He teaches violin and has created two documentaries in the past 3 years, thanks to the power and support of Artswave!
He is also the resident musician for, TrueTheatre (a local story-telling show), and can be heard every 1st Tuesday of the month at Arnold’s Bar and Grill! This past year after performing for the Western and Southern tournament in Mason, Ohio, he was interviewed by WVXU for his performance and aforementioned documentaries. As a father of 3 youngsters, he hopes his continued pursuit of happiness will add to their understanding and influence in our world!

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality. Since 1980, we have been fighting for a better future for LGBTQ+ Americans. We are now working tirelessly to pass the Equality Act, which will soon head to the U.S. Senate for consideration, fight back against a multitude of anti-LGBTQ+ legis-lation in states nationwide and ensure everyone in our community is treated with dignity and respect. While our opponents are emboldened and on the attack, the Human Rights Campaign and our grass-roots army of more than 3.2 million members and supporters are energetically defending the rights we’ve gained and ramping up our fight for full equality across the board.
The alarming spate of anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced across the country in 2020 has continued to surge in 2021. These include bills that would prohibit transgender youth from receiving genderaffirming care and bills that would prohibit transgender youth from participating in sports. This wave of anti-transgender legislation harkens back to the surge of anti-transgender bathroom bills that hit state legislatures in 2016, including North Carolina’s HB2. We remain committed to aggressively fighting these threats to equality by those who seek to undermine our rights. HRC will do whatever it takes to protect the rights and fundamental equality of every LGBTQ+ person in this country.
HRC’s decades-long work to build political power has uniquely positioned us to reach LGBTQ+ and ally voters who prioritize equality on the ballot, also known as Equality Voters. HRC has identified 57 million Equality Voters nationwide who, if they turn out to vote, will support pro-equality candidates. HRC’s early and sustained year-round engagement in battleground states like Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin bolstered historic turnout in 2018 and 2020 producing pro-equality outcomes at every level of government. In 2019, HRC’s mobilization of Equality Voters in Virginia, where lawmakers had repeatedly blocked proequality bills over many years, produced groundbreaking progress for LGBTQ+ Americans in the South. These victories led to the Virginia Values Act becoming law, making Virginia the first state in the South to advance statewide nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people.
The HRC Foundation improves the lives LGBTQ+ people by building understanding and shaping the public debate of LGBTQ+ people and the challenges they face through innovative research and public education campaigns. We also change the policies and practices in the institutions that shape our everyday lives (hospitals, schools, workplaces, and more) and empower strategic partners, community advocates, and allies through convenings and capacity-building. Guided by these theories of change and seeking to prioritize work impacting those who are multiply marginalized, we have 11 cuttingedge programs advancing equality in the U.S. and beyond.

Over its 19-year history, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index has been the driving force for the adoption of equitable workplace policies, practices and benefits for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people in the United States and beyond. Participating companies know that building an LGBTQ+-inclusive workplace is not just the right thing to do, it is also the best business decision and allows companies to attract, retain and engage top talent. Their commitment to building inclusion has only strengthened over the past year, with a record-breaking number of corporations achieving top marks.
91%

OF FORTUNE 500 COMPANIES have non-discrimination protections that include gender identity, UP FROM 3% IN 2002.
87%
of all CEI-rated businesses offer transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage while also eliminating blanket exclusions for medically necessary care in all other employer-sponsored plans.
