LAS VEGAS DINNER
We are honored to WELCOME you, friends, family, coworkers and loved ones to the 16th Annual Human Rights Campaign Las Vegas Gala. Thank you all for joining us tonight in community in this celebration of LGBTQ+ Equality!
As we celebrate tonight, we must not forget that we are living through troubling historic times that will be documented in American history. The LGBTQ+ community is under vicious attack - both legislative, in the media and in community! Our freedoms, safety and mere existence are at risk!
There are currently over 1,281 legislative bills and laws in place across the country that directly attack the lives and safety of the LGBTQ+ community, with specific bills targeting our trans family members by putting their access to critically needed medical care and protections at risk!
We are aware that many people in our community are living in fear daily. It is now more critical than ever that we stand together in solidarity as a unified community that is committed to fighting and defeating these horrific and dangerous legislative and media attacks against us!
We must realize that the attacks against the LBGTQ+ community that are happening across the nation could very well become a reality for us here in Nevada. Friends, we must not allow that to happen!
The prolific 1971 words of the legendary author James Baldwin could not ring more true for us today in 2023: “We live in an age in which silence is not only criminal but suicidal… For, if they take you in the morning, they will be coming for us that night”.
While we are here tonight to honor and uplift our amazing Equality Honorees, we also want to share our gratitude and appreciation with our Federal Club members and Major Donors. We couldn’t do this life saving work without your support!
We thank and honor the HRC Las Vegas Steering Committee, a group of volunteers who have been tirelessly working and engaging in the community as we continue to emerge from the pandemic. We have overcome so many challenges and obstacles, yet this Steering Committee has remained united, resilient and committed to this very challenging work.
We have stayed rooted in HRC’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion by uplifting communities of color and those most marginalized amongst us. We have expanded our Steering Committee to include a powerful and committed team of diverse Equality Warriors who each bring an array of valuable skills and talents to this work.
WELCOME LETTER
We have developed new coalition partners and community allies who stand united with us in the fight to achieve LGBTQ+ Equality. We stand in support of our coalition partners social justice reform efforts, women’s reproductive rights, responsible gun safety laws, and law enforcement community safety and responsible policing efforts.
Tonight, in this space and time, each and every one of you joining us reaffirms our shared belief that together we will make history by defeating all legislative and media attacks against our community and together we will achieve full equality for all LGBTQ+ people - Without Exception!

MEDIA EQUALITY AWARD Hannah Gadsby
HANNAH GADSBY is an Emmy® and Peabody Award-winning comedian and writer who captured the world’s attention with their sensational standup shows NANETTE and DOUGLAS and ignited global conversations around such topics as homophobia, misogyny, and autism.
Most recently, their standup special SOMETHING SPECIAL premiered on Netflix in May 2023, which Gadsby honed for over a year in venues during their 2022 world tour BODY OF WORK. This romantic comedy took Gadsby’s standup material in a different direction from their previous specials, bringing a lighter, “feel-good” mood to their audience.
Also in 2022, Gadsby’s first book TEN STEPS TO NANETTE: A MEMOIR SITUATION was published by Ballantine, an imprint of Penguin Random House, in the United States, Atlantic in the UK, and Allen & Unwin in Australia. TEN STEPS TO NANETTE, a New York Times best seller, follows Gadsby’s growth as a queer person, relationship with comedy, and struggles in their autism and ADHD diagnosis, which facilitated their emergence to NANETTE’s renouncement of self-deprecation.
In 2018, NANETTE played to sold-out houses across the world before launching on Netflix, garnering Gadsby critical acclaim and the Primetime Emmy® Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special in addition to a 2019 Peabody Award. DOUGLAS, which premiered in Melbourne in March 2019, toured extensively throughout the US and Europe and was followed by an Off-Broadway run, and available exclusively for streaming on Netflix, earned them multiple Primetime Emmy® nominations in 2020. Gadsby’s overnight success was more than ten years in the making, with their award-winning stand-up shows a sell-out fixture in festivals across Australia and in the UK for more than a decade. More recently, The University of Tasmania awarded Gadsby an honorary doctorate in recognition of their role as an ambassador for LGBTQ+ people worldwide.

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Human Rights Campaign,
It is my great pleasure to uplift the Human Rights Campaign in Nevada on the occasion of your 2023 Las Vegas Dinner.
As the representative for Nevada's 4th Congressional District, I am proud to stand with you in advocating for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. We are facing an unprecedented wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in Congress, which seeks to roll back the hard-won progress we have made towards equality.
The work you do to end discrimination against LGBTQ+ people and realize a world that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all is more vital than ever. The voices of hatred and dehumanization are growing bolder and more strident, and it is incumbent on all of us to raise our voices even louder in support of the LGBTQ+ community.
Since 2016, HRC Nevada has identified and mobilized 57 million Equality Voters nationwide, including over 700,000 in our own state. Together, we can make our voices heard and fight for the rights of all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
As we face unprecedented attacks on the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, I am committed to standing with the HRC and working together to promote equality, justice, and fairness for all.
With warmest regards,

Dear Friends,
Welcome to the HRC Las Vegas Dinner of 2023! For over four decades, the Human Rights Campaign has been at the forefront of advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, with the goal of guaranteeing that every LGBTQ+ individual, particularly those who identify as transgender, people of color, and those living with HIV+, are granted the same rights and treated as full and equal citizens within the movement, across our country, and around the world.
In southern Nevada, HRC Las Vegas is a leader in mobilizing and empowering people at the grassroots level, showing how community engagement can create meaningful change. From Stonewall to the AIDS epidemic, to attacks on transgender youth across our country today – the struggle for equality continues.
HRC Las Vegas works tirelessly to ensure that LGBTQ+ Nevadans live in communities that are fully equal in all aspects of life. From advancing LGBTQ+ civil rights to addressing disparities in healthcare within the community, we must continue to work together to ensure that LGBTQ+ Nevadans are on an equal playing field. I was proud continue to take up this fight in Washington DC against hateful legislation that attacks the LGBTQ+ community.
Thank you for your support of HRC Las Vegas. Tonight, we recognize the progress we have already made and look forward to even more positive change in the future. I am with you every step of the way and will always have your back. Best wishes for an enjoyable evening!
Sincerely,
Susie Lee Member of CongressThe most impactful way to support HRC is through a monthly gift, because you will help fuel HRC’s fight for FULL equality all year long.
Your ongoing monthly support will provide critical resources to fight back against anti-LG BTQ+ bills, expand and protect our pro-equality Congress in 2022, invest more deeply in our grassroots efforts with strategic organizing in key districts, keep pressure to pass the Equality Act in the U.S. Senate and continue to show up and fight for the multiply marginalized in our community and country.
Thank you for supporting HRC and for staying with us in the fight. Together, we are an unstoppable force for change!

This year’s HRC Dinner echoes differently for me. I started volunteering with HRC after the 2016 elections to protect my community’s rights and fight for Equality for all. A few weeks ago, I became of Citizen of the US and I can finally take my fight for Equality all the way to the voting booth!
As a volunteer on the Steering Committee and National Board of Governors, and a Federal Club Member and Major Donor with my wife, Laura, we’ve seen first hand the positive impact HRC makes in our community and all over the country! Transgender and non-binary people are your neighbors, co-workers, family members and friends. And when you or your friends and family are the targets of hate, violence and discrimination, you act.
The Human Rights Campaign is actively working to advocate for the rights and lives of the transgender and non-binary community–but we all must do more–can we count you in?
As LGBTQ+ people and allies, we have a responsibility to fight for EVERYONE in our movement. Now is the time to get loud, get visible, and spread awareness on behalf of transgender and non-binary people. So please take the actions below–but don’t stop there.
Sign the Pledge and Impact Change
The first step in voicing your support for the trans and non-binary community is to sign your name to the Count Me In pledge. By taking this action, you’re sending a message that you vow to go out of your way to raise awareness and uplift the lives of our trans and non-binary friends and family.
Provide Inclusive Books to an At-Need Library
Your contribution will provide a set of three books to a Title 1 school or community library serving multiply marginalized populations across the country.
Contact State Legislators
State legislatures are attacking LGBTQ+ folks, particularly trans people, left and right. Show antiequality legislators that we won’t tolerate any more bullying and discrimination.
Request and Show Off Your Sticker
Display your special edition HRC sticker on your car, laptop, water bottle — no matter where you put it, you’ll be saying you support our trans community.
Spread the Word On Social Media
Post these image shares on your social media channels and update your profile photos and let your networks know you believe in a more just and equitable world for trans folks — full stop.
Share a Voice Message of Support
State legislatures are targeting trans kids. Text HEART to 472-472 to share a public message of support for trans youth and show you’re fighting for them.

Wear Your Support
From T-shirts to pins to socks to masks, you can show off your support for trans equality no matter where you are, who you’re with or what you’re doing.
The more people who show they care, including allies and trans and non-binary people who speak up for the most marginalized in our community, the more hearts and minds we will change. Can we count you in?

WHAT WE DO
The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality. Since 1980, we have been fighting for a better future for LGBTQ+ Americans. We are now working tirelessly to pass the Equality Act, which will soon head to the U.S. Senate for consideration, fight back against a multitude of anti-LGBTQ+ legis-lation in states nationwide and ensure everyone in our community is treated with dignity and respect. While our opponents are emboldened and on the attack, the Human Rights Campaign and our grass-roots army of more than 3.2 million members and supporters are energetically defending the rights we’ve gained and ramping up our fight for full equality across the board.
ANTI-EQUALITY LEADERS AND LEGISLATION
The alarming spate of anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced across the country in 2020 has continued to surge in 2021. These include bills that would prohibit transgender youth from receiving genderaffirming care and bills that would prohibit transgender youth from participating in sports. This wave of anti-transgender legislation harkens back to the surge of anti-transgender bathroom bills that hit state legislatures in 2016, including North Carolina’s HB2. We remain committed to aggressively fighting these threats to equality by those who seek to undermine our rights. HRC will do whatever it takes to protect the rights and fundamental equality of every LGBTQ+ person in this country.
BU ILDING A ND DEMONSTR AT ING POLITICAL P OWER
HRC’s decades-long work to build political power has uniquely positioned us to reach LGBTQ+ and ally voters who prioritize equality on the ballot, also known as Equality Voters. HRC has identified 57 million Equality Voters nationwide who, if they turn out to vote, will support pro-equality candidates. HRC’s early and sustained year-round engagement in battleground states like Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin bolstered historic turnout in 2018 and 2020 producing pro-equality outcomes at every level of government. In 2019, HRC’s mobilization of Equality Voters in Virginia, where lawmakers had repeatedly blocked proequality bills over many years, produced groundbreaking progress for LGBTQ+ Americans in the South. These victories led to the Virginia Values Act becoming law, making Virginia the first state in the South to advance statewide nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people.
ADVANCING EQUALITY IN OUR DAILY LIVES
The HRC Foundation improves the lives LGBTQ+ people by building understanding and shaping the public debate of LGBTQ+ people and the challenges they face through innovative research and public education campaigns. We also change the policies and practices in the institutions that shape our everyday lives (hospitals, schools, workplaces, and more) and empower strategic partners, community advocates, and allies through convenings and capacity-building. Guided by these theories of change and seeking to prioritize work impacting those who are multiply marginalized, we have 11 cuttingedge programs advancing equality in the U.S. and beyond.
All Children - All Families is the only national program dedicated to LGBTQ+ inclusion in child welfare (foster care and adoption agencies) that provides resource development, technical assistance and training.

Workplace Equality advances equality for LGBTQ+ workers through the adoption and implementation of inclusive policies, practices, and benefits in the U.S. and beyond.
Youth Well-Being provides professional development to over 5,000 youth-serving professionals annually, through the annual Time to THRIVE conference, webinars, participation at major national convenings, and by amplifying the stories of HRC Youth Ambassadors.
