As your hosts, we’re thrilled to have you here with us tonight! To our returning friends, families and corporate partners, thank you for your ongoing support. To the hundreds of first-time attendees gathered here this evening, we hope tonight’s event moves and motivates you toward action in the fight for equality for all Americans.
Several months ago, the four of us began planning for tonight, which we knew would occur in the midst of one of the most contentious presidential elections in history. Every day, members of the LGBTQ+ community are targeted by legislators across the country, setting our community up for the biggest battle for LGBTQ+ equality ever seen. With roughly 45 days to go until we elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz as the next President and Vice President of the United States, we have much work to do.
HRC is committed to equal protection for the entire LGBTQ+ community and is honoring Roxanne Anderson tonight with the Brian Coyle Leadership Award. Roxanne is a community organizer, artist, abolitionist, and award-winning activist who has been working in social justice/service for 30+ years and believes vital, visible leaders of color make our communities stronger.
Additional thanks must also be given to the representatives of corporate America, who, despite external threats of boycotts continue to be the trailblazers in transforming social change in the workplace to ensure LGBTQ+ employees are valued and respected for the good work they bring to the table. Thank you for sticking with us- we need you.
Lastly, to our fantastic Minnesota Dinner planning committee, without whom, you would not have had beautiful auction items to bid on, the delicious wine on your table, or the heartfelt story shared by the Edwards family. To this group, we say a heartfelt thank you!
It is without a doubt going to be an exhilarating and turbulent 45 days ahead and because of that, we could not be happier to have you with us tonight. Our sincere hope is that once the lights have gone dark and tonight’s event is over, that you will actively “pay forward” HRC’s message of inclusion, acceptance and equality. And if you haven’t already, plan to VOTE on November 5!
Have an incredible evening,
Kelley Robinson is the ninth president of the Human Rights Campaign — the first Black, Queer woman to lead the organization. From community organizer to progressive leader, Robinson has been at the forefront in the fight for bodily autonomy and racial and gender equity, with a focus on lifting up marginalized communities and building political power. Robinson will lead HRC — and its more than 3 million member advocates — as the organization fulfills its mission to realize a world that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

Kimberley Locke’s career took off after being the last girl standing on Season 2 of American Idol and has since continued to work in the entertainment industry in various capacities. While singing continues to be her anchor, she’s also a motivational speaker & coach, and she loves to cook. You can catch her online cooking show, “What’s Cooking with Kimberley” on YouTube. Over the last few years, she’s been whipping up some delicious recipes as the co-host with the legendary Chef Emeril Lagasse on “Everyday Emeril.”
This past year Kimberley released 2 music projects, a lullaby album titled, “You’re My Baby” and a new Christmas album titled, “Christmas Is Here.” Kimberley’s last Christmas album was released in 2005 and had three #1 songs on the charts which lead Billboard Magazine to coin her as “The Queen of Christmas.” The title single from the new album “Christmas Is Here” is a cover originally performed by the late great Donna Summer. The album is comprised of some fun and obscure holiday covers as well as a few originals. This album has a bit of a retro, funky feel which can be attributed to the band EMP3 out of Brooklyn, NY. Kimberley and the band are giving you up beat holiday music that will lift your spirits and make your season bright!
In 2011 Kimberley created I AM Entertainment, a company created for artists by artists where she consults with other aspiring and established artist to grow their brand and help them cultivate and tell their stories to a broader audience. It’s a very exciting time for I AM Entertainment as they are currently expanding, offering services to other businesses and non-profits alike.

Rep. Angie Craig represents Minnesota’s Second Congressional District. She is fighting for working families - and for a Minnesota where every member of every family gets a fair shot. That means a future with lower health care costs and opportunities for career skills and technical training for 21st century jobs. She’ll work with anybody - and take on the Washington establishment - to get things done for her constituents.
Rep. Craig learned the value of hard work from her mother, a single mom who raised three children while earning her teaching degree. She too worked two jobs to help put herself through college. Years later, she moved to Minnesota and fell in love with the strong communities and quality of life. She and her wife Cheryl Greene have four sons – three who have already graduated from college or tech school and one who graduated from Rosemount High School in 2021 and is currently a college student. They lived in Eagan for nearly a decade and recently moved to Prior Lake. Angie attends church in Apple Valley and is a Rotarian who has served on several local community boards over the years. She is a small business investor, the former head of Global HR and Corporate Relations for a major Minnesota manufacturer, and a former newspaper reporter.
In Congress, Rep. Craig is fighting to make sure career skills and technical education is an option for every young person; to lower the cost of healthcare and to work toward a solution that expands health care to many more Americans; for infrastructure investments that benefit our communities – big and small; and for policies that reward people for their hard work – especially family farmers and small business owners. She plans to pursue these priorities through her appointments on the House Committees on Agriculture, Energy and Commerce and Small Business. But she knows she can’t do it alone. Through regular town hall meetings and work in the district, Rep. Craig hopes to hear from you directly about how she can help deliver economic opportunity to every Minnesotan.
Jenkins moved to Minnesota to attend the University of Minnesota in 1979. She worked as a Vocational Counselor for Hennepin County government, for a decade. Jenkins worked as a staff member on the Minneapolis City Council for 12 years before beginning work as curator of the Transgender Oral History Project at the University of Minnesota’s JeanNickolaus Tretter Collection in Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Studies.
She holds a master’s degree in Community Development from Southern New Hampshire University, a MFA in Creative Writing from Hamline University and a Bachelor’s Degrees in Human Services from Metropolitan State University. She is a nationally and internationally recognized writer and artist, a 2011 Bush Fellow to advance the work of transgender inclusion, and the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships. In 2018 she completed the Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University.

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality. Since 1980, we have been fighting for a better future for LGBTQ+ Americans. We are now working tirelessly to pass the Equality Act, which will soon head to the U.S. Senate for consideration, fight back against a multitude of anti-LGBTQ+ legis-lation in states nationwide and ensure everyone in our community is treated with dignity and respect. While our opponents are emboldened and on the attack, the Human Rights Campaign and our grass-roots army of more than 3.2 million members and supporters are energetically defending the rights we’ve gained and ramping up our fight for full equality across the board.
The alarming spate of anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced across the country in 2020 has continued to surge in 2021. These include bills that would prohibit transgender youth from receiving genderaffirming care and bills that would prohibit transgender youth from participating in sports. This wave of anti-transgender legislation harkens back to the surge of anti-transgender bathroom bills that hit state legislatures in 2016, including North Carolina’s HB2. We remain committed to aggressively fighting these threats to equality by those who seek to undermine our rights. HRC will do whatever it takes to protect the rights and fundamental equality of every LGBTQ+ person in this country.
HRC’s decades-long work to build political power has uniquely positioned us to reach LGBTQ+ and ally voters who prioritize equality on the ballot, also known as Equality Voters. HRC has identified 57 million Equality Voters nationwide who, if they turn out to vote, will support pro-equality candidates. HRC’s early and sustained year-round engagement in battleground states like Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin bolstered historic turnout in 2018 and 2020 producing pro-equality outcomes at every level of government. In 2019, HRC’s mobilization of Equality Voters in Virginia, where lawmakers had repeatedly blocked proequality bills over many years, produced groundbreaking progress for LGBTQ+ Americans in the South. These victories led to the Virginia Values Act becoming law, making Virginia the first state in the South to advance statewide nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people.
The HRC Foundation improves the lives LGBTQ+ people by building understanding and shaping the public debate of LGBTQ+ people and the challenges they face through innovative research and public education campaigns. We also change the policies and practices in the institutions that shape our everyday lives (hospitals, schools, workplaces, and more) and empower strategic partners, community advocates, and allies through convenings and capacity-building. Guided by these theories of change and seeking to prioritize work impacting those who are multiply marginalized, we have 11 cuttingedge programs advancing equality in the U.S. and beyond.
