READ LETTERS TO LGBTQ+ YOUTH
You are loved. You rise to a world that is not always kind, that takes great strength. The world needs your strength. On the days that you keep part of yourself hidden and you feel untrue, know that it is not just you. Everyone is searching. Everyone knows that fear. Your battles are greater and you stronger than you know. You have an army of friends and family and allies unknown…close your eyes, shut out the hateful noise, we are here and we love you. Call and we will answer. You are precious and loved, valued and appreciated for exactly who you are — do not look at yourself through the eyes of hateful and the angry, know yourself as the beautiful friend, child, parent, partner, classmate, neighbor that others see. Without you the world would be a lesser place. Raise your voice in love. Cast your vote for kindness. Stand against the hate. We are standing with you.And there are people and resources to help you along the way. We’re fighting hard for you, and we won’t stop fighting for you until you and every LGBTQ+ person are liberated and free.If you are in crisis, please dial 988 or contact Rainbow Youth Project directly at +1 (317) 643-4888.

You are seen. You are known. You matter. And you are loved. Our times are awfully challenging for you right now. They can be isolating, demoralizing and full of fear. Both peers and adults can misunderstand you and even attack you in so many hateful ways. It’s not fair, and it’s not right. But know this: You are precious and loved, valued and appreciated for exactly who you are — and millions and millions of people support your right to live authentically and full of joy. Whether you feel wellsupported by family and friends or alone on a dark, frightening journey, there is a place for you in this world, which needs you and is enriched by your very existence. And there are people and resources to help you along the way. We’re fighting hard for you, and we won’t stop fighting for you until you and every LGBTQ+ person are liberated and free.If you are in crisis, please dial 988 or contact Rainbow
Youth Project directly at +1 (317) 643-4888.

Nex Benedict's death is an absolute tragedy.
School and society can understandably feel even scarier now than it already had. As an educator in a state with similarly reprehensible discriminatory and dangerous laws like those in Oklahoma that contributed to Nex's death, I want you all to know that you are seen. And even though I don't know you each individually, you are loved and your identity and truth are accepted. I want you to know that your rights
DO matter... no matter who denies you them or what laws are passed that infringe upon those rights. The burden should not be placed upon you to have to fight for your right to safety and equality. I want you and the LGBTQ+ community to know that you do not stand alone in shouldering that burden.
With love and respect, Kei from Sebastian, FL

May you know peace, Emmy B from Humansville, MO
I'm the dad of trans and nonbinary kids, one of whom I lost to leukemia when he was only 18. My Alex had to fight for everything: a spot on the wrestling team, a gender-neutral bathroom, and respect from peers, teachers and even family who couldn't see fit to treat him properly. Alex was the bravest young man I've ever known. He faced too much in his short life. I can always be proud that he never backed down and lived his life on his terms, always. I know you're being asked to be brave too. Too many people are against you just because you choose to live authentically. Many of them envy your courage, and their hateful attitudes towards you are as much jealousy as anything else. At least that's my take. Allies are everywhere and we are watching. The haters don't always know we are there, but we are. Some of us wear a rainbow pin, some don't, but we are all over this country and we will not let the haters abuse you. I'm calling on more allies to speak up now - Act Up, the AIDS awareness organization in the 1980s had a slogan, "Silence = Death." We will not be silent. We will not be cowered. You will be defended. There's a whole army out there rooting for you to live your truth and find happiness. Hi, y'all ~ I'm writing this with deep sadness for our loss as a community of yet another beautiful life. Nex Benedict, rest in power and peace.I also want to tell you, as a 51-year-old trans man that I have your back. We all have your back. And we need you to hold on, please. Take solace in knowing that there are adults out here who are fighting tooth and nail to make sure you stay safe, loved, and supported. And we will not give up on you. We will be here for you. Fight when you can, rest when you need to, and keep being exactly who you are where it is safe. Do not be ashamed if you need to hide. Do not be ashamed if you need to lie to keep the peace. If you need to, do it. If only to get through what you need to get through in order to see the other side. We are here for you. We love you. We believe you. We support you. And again, we need you to please hold on to the hope in your hearts and ask for help you need when you can't find the hope. You are loved and you are enough.

It hurts deeply when you are confronted with the reality that some people are full of hate towards individuals who have done nothing of harm to anyone, just because they are different. But as many people as there are who are full of vitriol, there are many more people who are full of love and understanding. No matter what happens, find the people in your life who love you- whether they are friends, family, or community members- and hold onto that love over all of the hate. This is undeniably a scary world, and I know sometimes it seems like there's no hope. But the hope you can find in the small moments of joy, in the people that can make you smile, is worth moving forward for. We as a community have made more steps forward than steps backward, and we will continue to fight against this. As long as you find happiness in your life in any way, you are already persevering over the people who want to put you down. So keep living on!! You are loved!!

I’m Deb, an out-n-proud lesbian from Illinois. Not the easiest, coming from a town in the middle of cornfields. This world is crazy, & the challenges life & the world bring to us are monumental-yes, an understatement. It’s against everything I’ve come to believe in, the fact that you must fight to be YOU. Beautiful, one-of-a-kind, individual YOU. People of all ages understand the importance of being ourselves…and then there are those who don’t, who won’t celebrate your/our beautiful individuality. People who judge, demoralize, have no insight, no compassion, people who fear inner growth. People who are threatened by all of us. Why does it have to be frightening to be “us “? But, please know you are never alone! You are celebrated by so many of us because of your individuality. Because of your beautiful soul. Because of all the goodness you stand for. Because you are the bravest of the brave. Please, please know how very much you are loved by all of us, respected, admired, and never forget there are many of us who understand. You must live your life as your authentic self. To be true to yourself. To live life, to believe in your mind, your spirit, your heart, that you are admired, and that you are loved. Please, never ever forget you are beautiful who you are, who you are growing to be. True to yourself, true to all of us who love you. You mean more to us than you will ever know. You bring beauty to this world, and you are truly the source of inspiration on how to live life as the true spirits we are. We will never stop fighting for your rights!

You are seen. You are known. And you are loved.Know that I worry with you. As a teacher, I couldn't imagine having students who were not allowed to be themselves. Authentic self-expression is very much needed in the fine arts department of the school. If children/adults are not allowed to be themselves out in society, how is anyone going to truly know themselves? With love, Kam (he/him), transgender and queer from Round Lake, IL

You are seen. You are known. And you are loved. While I do not know you or may ever meet you, know that you are loved and welcomed in. That you have a home in times of struggle and a friendly shoulder to cry on. That you’re not going through this alone, a piece of all our hearts was stolen, but it doesn’t mean we cower in fear. That the older generations of LGBTQIA+ stand behind you and support you all the way. We maybe old and tired, but we’re all the way ready for another brick throwing or riot for our friends. We remember being 16 and just wanting to exist as who we genuinely are. Nex deserved better from society. Now we have to make it so. You are seen. You are known. And you are loved.Dear LGBTQ+ youth, I have been where you are; infact I am still where you are. I face discrimination, hate, and oppression every single day. Whether it's online or in person I am hated on.Things are ROUGH in this world right now and I don't know when it will get better but we cant get there if you are not in this world. We need you here to help us fight the fight. People are always going to be hateful and that's never going to change, but they need to know we are here and we aren't going anywhere! We are human and deserve love and care just like anyone else. They may not see that right now but hopefully in the near future, that will change.I know it seems scary and I know you're probably terrified because I am too. We have a right to be scared but we need to show these lawmakers and bullies that we have emotions, we have families, we have lives just like any cis/straight person. And there are people and resources to help you along the way. I am one of you. I understand what it’s like to be afraid, to feel different, to be uncomfortable in your body, to not be accepted. I know the struggle can feel insurmountable and isolating. Please know that you are not alone. I see you. There are so many wonderful people who can relate, if only you can find them. Every single one of us deserves to feel loved and supported. I don’t know you, but I love you so much. Between legislature being passed against us and the media’s fear-mongering, it can be hard to feel accepted. Even at home, we’re often not fully known (especially GNC folx). I see you; you are not alone. Together I hope we can make a better world for the next group of young folx. I won’t stop fighting for you, and there are so many others determined to keep our community and rights safe. You belong here. You belong in the world. You have a right to take up space. You belong in this community. You are seen. I wanted to add something to the beginning of this. You are so much more than you realize. You may feel misunderstood at times and I understand how that feels. Sometimes people don’t want to accept you for who you are because they want control. Keep being yourself. I identify as straight and female and I want you all to know that you have hugs and acceptance from me and my family as well. I was raised in a military family and my family fought in wars. My point is, I learned a very long time ago that we are all different, unique, and valuable. We all have something to learn from one another. None of us are superior to another. The biggest changes we have seen in history and today are because of those who stood up. And sometimes that can be just one person. Yes, one person can make a difference. Don’t forget that for every smile or laugh you share with someone else, it could wake up the hearts of even the most evil of men and women. Look at the Grinch, David and Goliath, Joan of Ark. Look at what a musician can do. Look what an artist can do. Look at what an author can do. Sometimes it takes just one person. Carpe Diem. Keep smiling. With love, Deborah from Williamson, GA

I am a lesbian who feels trans. My heart goes out to the family of 16 year old Nex. It is horrible how violence towards the LGBT community is still happening. I feel it is due to how some of the trans community is making the LGBT look in a negative way. I feel that the LGBT community needs to stick together and we are not all the same. We need to stick together against violence and against the horrible image some trans and transvestites are doing. We need to improve our image and stay strong. Nex did not deserve what happened to him and I wish he was still in the world today cause i bet he was a remarkable person. With how trans are making us look, I took am very cautious. I don't want to be associated with their actions cause I'm a lesbian and also feeling I might be trans makes me be on high alert of potential violence towards me. I pray for all LGBT community to stay strong, to Nex’s family, and for Nex’s spirit to be at peace.

Hello my shining stars! There's so many things I want to say, and the biggest one is that you are not alone. Not now, not ever. I am very proud of you, and I believe in you. No matter what you set out to do in life, you will do great. You shine with a radiance so potent that your brilliance will light up the whole earth. I wish I could wave a magic wand and get rid of all of the hate and terrible laws. I don't have your lived experience, but being a bisexual person with Asperger's Syndrome, I can relate to what it's like to feel othered and left out. I grew up back during the 2000s here in the upper Midwest, living through many tough things like going through school while feeling like I had to hide my disability and sexuality, and my dad dying of cancer when I was 12. Whatever life threw my way, I kept on going and as I got older, I found much more joy and was able to accomplish a lot of things. This will happen for you too. Just hang on, and you will find things go up again after they go down.Times are really tough right now for the LGBTQ community, but I believe in my heart of hearts that we are going to turn things around and get all of our rights back. I was raised to believe that we all are the drops of one ocean, the leaves of one tree, and the flowers of one wonderfully diverse garden. You have a special place in that garden. Never forget that. The number one rule that I've found we have to learn as LGBTQ people is all the love, validation and affirmation we need is right inside ourselves, and that no matter what the haters try to do to us, no matter what laws pass, you are who you are, whether you are out or not. I also find it helps to ground yourself in nature. Go outside at night and look up at the stars, see all of the glimmering stars and the moon, hold onto that feeling of wonder you get, and think of it as a reminder that you are an essential part of this world and this universe.
This world is yours just as much as it is anyone else's. You have and are more than worthy of a place in this universe and world. Queerness is the universe's design, and it and we are so much higher than the petty hatred thrown at us. I want you to know that you are enough, you matter and you are never, ever alone. I see you in all of your beautiful forms, and I love you, from the bottom of my heart. I want you to know that there are millions of us around the world fighting for you, believing in you, praying for you and loving you for who you are.Always live your truth. Be safe, and know that only you have the ability to define yourself. Your incredible story inspires me and countless others. Take a few good deep breaths for me, now. Give me a smile, if you can. Find your safe zone, and let yourself relax and think of one good thing you are thankful for. Then, think of another and make a list. It can be people who love and support you, famous pro-equality advocates, or something even more simple like favorite foods, things in nature like lakes or rocks, video games, etc. Keep that list handy and go through it whenever things get really hard. It will help, and creating it is a lot of fun.It does get better, because there are millions of us fighting to make it better each and every day. Stay safe and sound, keep smiling. We’re always there for you. If you don't have someone in your life that you feel you can trust or talk to, keep looking and don't give up. Someone will listen.Look for the light, and the good. Build a steel rod of love within yourself, and please don't ever give up. It's hard for me too, but I always push forward, because I'm worth it, my family's worth it, and of course, you're so, so worth it. As HRC president Kelley Robinson says, our mandate is liberation and equity without exception and we are gonna build the world you deserve. If you are in crisis, please dial 988 or call the Trevor Project at 1-866-488-7386. Please keep going for me and remember you are an amazing kid, a shining lamp and a brilliant star.
Sending much love and solidarity, Chris from Eau Claire, WI
You are seen and supported. My heart hurts as I watch our governments and communities normalize hate, dehumanize you, and shame you and my transgender son. Just know that these are the minority, a loud minority, but the minority just the same.

I want you to know that I know how you feel. I realized I was bi at the age of 12, and I didn't come out until I was 16. When I did, I was tormented constantly at school. I was called a faggot at least ten times a day. Sometimes, it would be shouted at me from a distance. Other times, it would be whispered in my ear from behind my back. I had rocks thrown at me in gym class. I was laughed at and teased until I came home crying with rage. But none of it was as bad as what transgender youth go through every day.You see, cisgender people like me look ordinary on the outside. Unless someone in the street knows that I am bisexual, they assume I'm heteronormative and treat me with kindness and respect. But when you're transgender, everyone you meet sees and notices that you are different. It can be a cashier, a bank teller, a waiter, or a stranger on a bus. Sometimes, it can be a mean glare, or an eyeroll of disgust, but they always seem to make it very clear how they think of you. That is why I created the first Gay-Straight Alliance at my high school, and it's why I will always fight for the rights of transgender youth. As a great person once said: "Even though I do not know you, and even though I have never met you, laughed with you, or cried with you, I love you. With all my heart, I LOVE YOU, Cody from Prescott, AZ

You are seen. You are known. And you are loved. I'm a 74yo lesbian and I thought that once we all started coming out publicly and people knew us, things would get better. It has for many, yet may be worse for some. Know that it definitely is easier as you get older and that there are so many of us who thrived being who we are.Our times are awfully challenging for you right now. Whether you feel well-supported by family and friends or alone on a dark, frightening journey, there is a place for you in this world, which needs you and is enriched by your very existence. And there are people and resources to help you along the way. We’re fighting hard for you, and we won’t stop fighting for you until you and every LGBTQ+ person are liberated and free.If you are in crisis, please dial 988 or contact Rainbow Youth Project directly at +1 (317) 643-4888.

My heart is broken yet again. A beautiful mind taken too early, and in fear, in sorrow, and probably alone. I wish I could have been there to help. Maybe just an encouraging word. Maybe badmouth the lousy bullies. Or simply listen. Our collective humanity is tarnished by this needless cruelty. Every human has the right to be seen, heard, and allowed to pursue what makes them happy. I stand with you, my friends. I hope my voice can help add to the collective courage we all must have to press on in the face of bigotry. You are not alone in the fight. As someone who is transgender and non-binary, I realize that it is our time to stand up. What has happened to Nex and countless other queer teens is horrible and I can't just stand by and let it happen. I want to make a difference in my lifetime for anyone else who feels the way I do. Because the world doesn't have a place for us yet. But I know that if we work for it, it will someday. It starts with us and ends with us.

I am the mother of a 20-year-old transgender daughter, and I want you all to know that I and many others are outraged about Nex's death and about Oklahoma's and other states' soul-killing anti-LGBTQ legislation. I wish I could change the minds of those legislators and the people who support them by giving them the same gift my daughter gave me: the joy of allowing my child to have sovereignty over her own identity and ensuring she felt seen, loved, supported and validated; the gift of watching her blossom as she was affirmed in who she is. These legislators and their supporters have hardened their hearts and so cannot experience the joy of supporting the LGBTQ+ youth and adults of their states and watch their states benefit from the myriad of talents you all bring to the world. I hold rage along with all of you - rage that these people blind themselves to how they are creating the conditions that lead to the suffering and in some cases the deaths of people whose only crime is wanting to be themselves. I also hold immense sadness for these lawmakers who cannot embrace the humanity of all people, and thus diminish their own humanity. So many people are working tirelessly to support all of you and create change in your states. Please know you are loved and your identities are valued by more people than you know. Also know there are people and resources to help you along the way. We’re fighting hard for you, and we won’t stop fighting for you until you and every LGBTQ+ person are liberated and free.

I don't know you. And more than likely never will. But we share something in common. Something larger than life. Who we are, and what we stand for. That means more than anything. Not only now in the present. But for the future as well. Yet. It's tough. It's grueling. And quite frankly, can be extremely lonely at times. The fight must go on though. For you, for me, for them, and everyone. We must stand together. Fight, cry, laugh, smile and scream together. For those that cannot. And for those no longer with us. Make your mark on this world. I can't wait to see it.

You are seen. You are known. And you are loved.I am a non-binary teacher in Texas and know there are people looking out for you. Stay here the world will be better with you in it. Don’t let messages of hate stop you from being who you are. I am glad you are here. It was my younger cousin who helped me realize my gender identity. But know this: You are precious and loved, valued and appreciated for exactly who you are
— and millions and millions of people support your right to live authentically and full of joy. I know it's hard to think of the future in a hopeful lens when tragedies like this are still occurring to people like us. It's not easy to live your truth, and no matter what that means to you right nowwhether you're out or not - I am proud of you. I see you. Know that you have an entire community of people behind you who are not only fighting for you, but love you. I'm in my senior year of college now, and I am so proud of you for being where you are right now. Living is and loving is a revolution in and of itself, and one that you are already taking part in; just by being here, you are fighting every single day, and I hope you know that it is not, and never will be, in vain. We are fighting for you. You are brave, and you are seen, and you are loved. If you are in crisis, please dial 988 or contact Rainbow Youth Project directly at +1 (317) 643-4888.

You are seen. You are known. And you are loved. Hi there, gay adult here who is coming to understand my own nonbinary identity. There was an old campaign that we used to use, something we used to tell each other when things got too much and kids considered ending their struggles through suicide: It Gets Better. And it’s true. It does. It gets better. I can personally attest to this. Even when we had no rights as queer people, even when we weren’t welcome in straight spaces, even when cops were raiding bars and our relationships were considered second-class—there was still queer joy. Queer art was made, and queer life was lived. We loved one another, and were loved in return. Growing up as a queer person today comes with a whole host of new concerns and dangers, it’s true. We have to learn to navigate them as a community. But that’s just it: there is a whole community out here waiting for you with open arms. The bigots will always be there. But they don’t have to be the ones who tell your story. Make it out, and come join us. It’s great out here! Sending you all love and support. In these times, both peers and adults can misunderstand you and even attack you in so many hateful ways. It is so maddening that this happens. Whether you feel wellsupported by family and friends or alone on a dark, frightening journey, there is a place for you in this world, which needs you and is enriched by your very existence. Your gender identity does not change this. As a senior I will not stop fighting for your rights until you and every LGBTQ+ person are liberated and free. In the face of adversity, it's crucial to recognize that hate may be loud, but it is not a force more powerful than love and acceptance. The strength of the LGBTQ+ community lies in its resilience, unity, and unwavering commitment to living authentically. By standing together, supporting one another, and promoting understanding, we build a formidable force that triumphs over hate.I want to emphasize that my commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community is unwavering. Even in the moments when no one else is around, I will stand by your side, advocating for equality and acceptance. This is not just your fight; it's everyone's responsibility to create a world where diversity is celebrated and discrimination has no place. Together, we can foster an environment of love, understanding, and inclusion, ensuring that everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. You are seen. You are known. And you are loved. Dear LGBTQ+ young ones. My name is Holloway. I want you to know l am so sad and concerned for you and how, l can only imagine , you are struggling right now.Today is my 61st birthday (yay)! so you know l was in your age range decades ago. It was very difficult being gay or bisexual (as we were generally called then though many identified as trans), inthe 70s and 80s. We worked hard to make progress in the fight against cruelty and systemic injustice toward our community. The world in which you are growing up is both similar and different. I suspect that mean and controlling people will continue to exist, but it seems to me that the world might feel more overwhelming and frightening than what l experienced at your age.You all have also made great strides toward equality and justice as well as in helping society evolve in it's outlook on LGBTQ people... just as to many closed minded politicians and voters work to reverse civil rights in the U.S.A. Please keep open to the promise that l and others will work to protect you and l will look to you all to help me feel hopeful and to share your wisdom w your caring elders! You may be stronger than you feel.

You are seen. You are known. And you are loved. When I was 14, I heard about my first lgbtq death, a trans man who posted his note before making an irreversible choice. The times we live in now are no different, but they are better. We have a voice that isn't being silenced through lack of coverage or just tacking on another death. Let us end this, and know that your siblings in other states are fighting for us all to live in peace. You are valid for feeling isolating, demoralizing and full of fear. We’re fighting hard for you, and we won’t stop fighting for you until you and every LGBTQ+ person are liberated and free.We can end this, and every day more and more people are willing to protect you and give you a safe space to live in. You may not see it today, or next week, or even next year, but we will win this fight. No matter what, as a once lgbtq youth, I promise you we will fight. With love, Samuel from Pekin, IL
You are seen. You are known. And you are loved. As the parent of a beautiful 17-year-old gender fluid kid myself, it breaks my heart to know that our world is putting you through so many challenges simply for being true to yourselves. You deserve so much better. Our times are awfully challenging for you right now. They can be isolating, demoralizing and full of fear. Both peers and adults can misunderstand you and even attack you in so many hateful ways. It’s not fair, and it’s not right. Remember, your worth is not determined by the ignorance or hatred of others. You are beautiful; you are brave, and you deserve to live a life free from fear and discrimination a life full of joy. Your safety is comes first above all else. We are prioritizing your safety and well-being. We will not turn a blind eye to the bullying or discrimination that you face. We will fight for you— in our homes, in our communities, in our school systems, in our legislatures. But know this: You are precious and loved, unconditionally, and valued and appreciated for exactly who you are — and millions and millions of people support your right to live authentically and full of joy. I also want you to remember that you are not alone! I used to be in your state. I used to be scared but determined. Those of us who moved away (& those still with you) are Proud of You. You are seen. You are known. And you are loved. I am so very embarrassed to say I’m from Oklahoma now. I grew up from 1970’s until 2015 there and REALLY thought my group had made safe way for you to be able to move even further w/o as much hate in your way. Your times are challenging for You. Pretty sure the times moved BACKWARDS for you. They are isolating, demoralizing and threatening. Both peers and adults can misunderstand you and even attack you in so many hateful ways. It’s NOT fair, and it’s NOT right, and it’s NOT reasonable. You are SO INCREDIBLY BRAVE, DETERMINED and PROUD… even if the safest space sometimes to do that is on the 988 line or with an excellent friend. But know this: You are precious and loved, valued and appreciated for EXACTLY who you are — and millions and millions of people SUPPORT your right to live authentically and full of joy. Whether you feel well-supported by family and friends or alone on a dark, frightening journey, there is a place for you in this world, which NEEDS YOU and is enriched by your very existence. And there are people and resources to help you along the way. We’re fighting hard for you, and we won’t stop fighting for you until you and every LGBTQ+ person are liberated and free. Please hear the voices of love and acceptance and seek out those who uplift you. Let those voices surround you and comfort you. I know the road is hard right now and it can be scary. I respect you. I see you. I value you. I wish you only the best life has to offer. I'm sending you love and positive energy. I am so sad about the challenges faced by your community these days. It breaks my heart daily as a psychotherapist who works with LGBTQ+ clients, the friend of a transgender teen, the aunt of a non-binary teen, the niece of a gay man, the niece of a lesbian woman, the friend of a gay man, and the best friend of a lesbian woman. None of the challenges are fair to your community or to each individual faced with them. I wish all of the hate and lack of compassion would simply disappear! Know this: You are loved. I support you to live your most authentic life. I know that path will lead you to the highest level of peace and happiness. Though that path may be hard at times, remember that you deserve to be who you are. You deserve to live the life you want to live. I wish you joy in your life. I wish you love in your life. I wish you all of the support you want and need along the way. There are people and resources to help you along the way. Regardless of the violence we are all seeing~ please know that there are many of us who see you, support you, and love you the way you are. My heart hurts for those who live in fear of just being themselves. Like I tell my own kids, be yourself, unapologetically. Let your flag fly. Own it and spread love. I look forward to the day everyone in the LGBTQ+ community can live freely and without fear. Hugs to you from one your Momma Bears.

As a mother of a trans daughter, and friends of parents of trans children of varying ages I want you to know that we are horrified by what happened to Nex, and by the hatred that is being expressed to gain political access. These are very difficult times, but within them know that there are people who value who you are and love the ways you are teaching cis people to become more expansive in their understanding of human beings. There are people out there who are fighting for your rights. The reason you all have become center stage is because trans people are refusing to be erased. My hope is that you will seek out people like Alok V Menon, Jacob Tobia, Kit Yan, or musicians like Laura Jane Grace, Shea Diamond and others. Read trans history books like Histories of the Transgender Child by Jules GillPeterson or Transgender History by Susan Stryker. It’s important to find your community online or in the library if it’s difficult to find your community in person. You are not alone! Trans people have been important forever! Life may seem hopeless these days, but I know it will get better. Your life means more than you could ever know, you are worth so much. Yes, evil people exist, and they are the loudest, this means that all ally’s and queers must be louder. You are seen. You are known. And, coming from me (the mom of a transgender young adult) you are very, VERY loved. Our times are awfully challenging for you right now. They can be isolating, demoralizing and full of fear. Both peers and adults can misunderstand you and even attack you in so many hateful ways. It’s not fair, and it’s not right. Please also remember that Chosen Family is just as important (sometimes MORE important!) than biological family. If you feel alone right now, reach out to groups like GLAAD or The Trevor Project, to connect with others. On Facebook, there are also secret groups that support LGBTQIA+ kids, teens, young adults, and also parents of LGBTQIA+ kids. And there are people and resources to help you along the way. We’re fighting hard for you, and we won’t stop fighting for you until you, and every LGBTQ+ person, are liberated and free. Humanity is facing challenging times right now. Politicians have malevolently used the trans, nonbinary and queer community as a lever to distract from the real issues we are all faced with. This has created an environment that is isolating, demoralizing and fearful. As a result of this, peers and adults alike get lost in the illusory power of labels and totally misunderstand you and even attack you in so many hateful ways. It must END. There are people and resources to help you along the way. We’re fighting hard for you, and we won’t stop fighting for you until you and every LGBTQ+ person is liberated and free to move around in the world without fear of attack. Things are very scary right now. Hate is rampant, many of those in power are failing us, basic rights are being pared down and stripped away, and it often feels like there is nothing we can do about it. But it's crucial to remember that there are thousands and thousands of people out there doing the hard work, day in and day out, without a spotlight, to make things better. They are brave, motivated, and they are succeeding in so many ways that don't always get enough attention. You're not alone. There are so many people who will love you as you are, even if it seems like they may be few and far between. There are more of us than you might expect. Do what you have to do in order to stay safe and sane. Whether you stand up and speak out, inform yourself and others, gather friends and allies to push for change, or even if you just quietly endure for a while. You matter and we want you to be here with us.

You are seen. You are known. And you are loved. I hold each and everyone of you dear to my heart. I am a nonbinary person myself and I know how easy it can be to feel alone as the world around us continues to try to push us out. But please, if ever you feel alone, know that I care and I love you. I may be miles away, but I am sending love to you wherever you are in this world. You have a place in your school, in your neighborhood, state, and country. We Americans are and always have been founded and built on diversity. LGBTQ+ is the latest of many groups of people who are being discriminated against. Please believe in yourself, your family, and your friends! We support you and your right and freedom to be whomever you choose to be. Your community, and your fellow LGBTQ+ community in particular, needs you! Try your best to be proud of who you are and all the future contributions you'll make to your community and our nation.
Best wishes to you and the entire LGBTQ+ community as we all continue to fight for your human dignity and legal rights just the same as all Americans. Stay strong and know that many of us allies are out here supporting you unconditionally and also fighting for your rights!

You are so loved as you are. The hearts of so many Americans are with you, and while this may not outnumber the amount of negativity you face, this hate you receive is not in everyone. Please know that there are peaceful loving people for every hateful person, and we see you, love you, and want you to live. You are so important in this world and remind us everyday what living actually looks like.

To the community that I can’t imagine being without. A truly supportive and powerful example of strength through time. I give to you my personally written Self-Mantra. You are not alone. We are out here and fighting for the future generation. It's hard and scary right now but find us. Find us in your community and find safety. With love, Martin from Garland, TX
You are seen. You are known. And you are loved. Our times are awfully challenging right now, and that's why I want you to look to the past with me. I am greying, 35 years old and out for the last 16 of those. Despite everything that's happening, when you look at what our community has already done, both before either of us were born and throughout my life and yours, it's easy to believe in us. We fought and scratched and bit and carved out a place for ourselves and got so many laws passed and public opinion about us changed enough that we can be out and be ourselves and dress how we want and marry who we love. Once we found each other and found community, we changed so much, so fast. It's so much better now than it was 20 years ago when I realized I was queer and there were other people like me. Yes, they're hurting us right now, especially you young people, but our community is like bread- when there's heat, we rise and harden up. What happened to Nex is a tragedy we tried to prevent, we failed you and we failed Nex, but we will keep trying and trying until kids like you are safe. I know it's terrifying and a lot of young people are feeling the call of the void, please do your best to stay alive so you can grow up and get to experience the joys and freedoms of adulthoodonce you’re out of school it does start to get better. A lot of people are trying to make it worse, but we're fighting to make it better and we want you to grow up and live your life in a way that brings you peace, meaning and joy. There are people and resources to help you along the way. We’re fighting hard for you, and we won’t stop fighting for you until you and every LGBTQ+ person are liberated and free. With love, Kass from Hawkins, TX

You are seen. You are known. And you are loved. When you are feeling unloved have the courage to love yourself. Our times are awfully challenging for you right now. They can be isolating, demoralizing and full of fear. Keep your own counsel. Decide for yourself how you want to express yourself. There are no rules. You can be out and be an activist, but you don’t have to be. You can be reserved, living in your personal cocoon staying quiet, but you don’t have to. When and where and with whom you feel safe, try to make connections there. You get to decide who in your life has earned your trust. Stay safe, survive and love yourself. You are who you are, you deserve love and respect without being expected to change. You are seen. You are known. And you are loved. If any of you see this message among the many others, just know this, your bravery is unmatched... I was too scared to come out when I was younger. That fear that I had, you conquered it. You're stronger than many... I really mean that. The world can truly seem dark at times, but that's just because it is filled with people many who are full of hate. Those hateful people: they are the minority. THEY are the ones on the wrong side of history. THEY are the ones who are sad inside, who are scared. THEY are the ones who lack courage. You all, you dwarf those bigots in regard to courage. You're heroes in my eyes. And stand firmly on the right side of history, and history will prove that. History will only make those bigots vanish: they have no place in a progressive world like we do. Let their words and hate slide off of you like intellectual thought slides from their smooth brains!! Our times are awfully challenging for you right now. They can be isolating, demoralizing and full of fear. Both peers and adults can misunderstand you and even attack you in so many hateful ways. It’s not fair, and it’s not right. You are seen. You are known. And you are loved. As a nonbinary adult, I promise that the world is a better place with us in it. We’re fighting hard for you, and we won’t stop fighting for you until you and every LGBTQ+ person are liberated and free. If you are in crisis, please dial 988 or contact Rainbow Youth Project directly at +1 (317) 643-4888.

GAYou are seen. You are known. And you are loved. I am a grandmother and a member of the LQBTQ+ community since 1983. Be careful and settle when you get older, where you can live safely and free. It is my hope this will be everywhere in the United States one day. Our times are awfully challenging for you right now. They can be isolating, demoralizing and full of fear. Both peers and adults can misunderstand you and even attack you in so many hateful ways. It’s not fair, and it’s not right. You are seen. You are known. And you are loved. I once was in your shoes, and I remember the anxiety it took to only exist every day. You are stronger than you realize. And I understand we would rather be loved and seen than have to be strong instead, but with time you will find yourself in a place where you can breathe easier and be surrounded by those who allow you to rest. Our times are awfully challenging for you right now. They can be isolating, demoralizing and full of fear. Both peers and adults can misunderstand you and even attack you in so many hateful ways.
