basic design material knowledge study representation architecture

ABOUT My name is Chou, Hung-Ming and I graduated from Tamkang University with a BA degree in Architecture. I am Taiwanese and was born in Taipei City. I have a great deal of passion towards architecture and enjoy analyzing things from architecture perspectives. I must say, architecture has been part of my life for as long as could remember. During my freshman year as an undergraduate, I knew nothing about architecture. I ran around blacksmith and carpentry tools trying to search for the meaning of design. Soon after a year of professional training in school, I started build a basic understanding of what design is to me. Not long after I started my architecture pathway by becoming familiar with more architectural materials, design details and even urban planning. After five years of education, I only grew more enthusiastic and eager for advanced knowledge in the industry of architecture. I now feel the urge to grasp more practical skills to apply in the real life settings. My motivation is to give back to myself for all the devotion, but also to fulfill my long-term faith. 2

After knowing my potential in architecture, this case has made me realize how to make design more interesting. The “ISSUE is what makes the case more attractive and intriguing. This case has made me understand how the choice of words can be symbolized to indicate different meanings, such as space, strategy, design methods and even details of the design.

A 2D design can ensure an interesting outcome. However, in this case, we look at the section as the main shaft, and through the large quantity of section sketches to construct the buildings. Furthermore, thoughts and ideas are combined with story lines to enlighten the interior space and to reach a more interesting and effective design.

Porject: Stay with Flourshing

Spatial design in a building should be the main character. However, when the building is placed in a certain degree of context, a good design should not render its originality. Regardless commercial activities, residential areas or performing arenas are the essential elements that could be brought to this case.

page14~18

Porject: Performance Maywa Denki

This is a hypo-architectural design in Japan, which uses an Internet networking strategy to search for a performing group. The performing site is purposely designed, but randomly picked in Asia. The extension of the site enables the designer to fully elaborate on spatial design. However, the challenge comes from the integration of relationships among all the spaces, which is also my biggest gain in this case. 3

Porject: Hot spring Town

This is a hypo-architectural design in Spain. This challenge is out of my reach at the early stage due to the scales, data collection, integration of Green Energy Technology and the actual function of town. Conquering this case has benefited me from advancing my knowledge to the next level. The breakthrough of cultural and geological difficulties has broadened my viewpoints in architecture design. The process was not smooth, but the gain was precious. 4

Porject: Farmer-Post Station

point1:a new space design for old street point2:new farmer with original traditional circumstances

This is the last case in my senior college and I chose a market that is only five kilometers away from my home in Taipei City. I tried to utilize all my architectural techniques on this case: The farmer Transfer Station. I faced many obstacles, but it became clear to me that I needed to obtain more knowledge and skills in the field of architecture in order to make it functional. This is truly what I hope to cultivate.

Porject: workshop

This was an extracurricular activity in my undergraduate years. I participated in a workshop in Japan, which includes leading universities such as National Cheng Kung University (Taiwan), Tokyo Woman’s Christian University (Japan), and Nanjing University (China). Although I participated in countless workshops, there were two where I held important roles, such as curator, negotiator and decision maker.

The Script

This community is composed of four types of spaces, four units held by a family and the other four units are left for sale.

Mix Together

Unit A: An old couple has a dog. Their elder son and daughterin-law are seldom home due to their constant business trips. Their room is preserved for them even though they only come home once every six months. The young couple has two children who are still in elementary school, so they hired a maid to take care of the elders and the children. Unit A: This family has a husband and wife, mother-in-law, daughter-in-law and the mother of the daughter-in-law. The second son and third son only come home during the weekends for they normally stay in the baseball dormitory. The children are college students in Taichung City. Due to their heavy course loads, they only come home once a month. Therefore, the main members in this household are the mother-in-law and daughterin-law. The daughter-in-law works during the daytime and she always gets home late, as there is no direct transportation home. For instance, the daughter-in-law brings dinner on the way home and she seldom cooks at home. She only cooks when her husband and son get home. Unit B: There are a couple and two children, who are the elder couple’s youngest son and daughter-in-law. The young couples are all working during the day from nine to five. The younger daughter-in-law is Christian and she brings her two children to church every Sunday. Sometimes she even brings her neighbor’s children with her. The younger son likes to play basketball and he always plays at the park except for the weekends. During weeknights, he sometimes brings his wife and children to take a walk in the park. The rest of the four units will be sold and these only come with standard equipment.

Issue

In the countryside, the three-section courtyard remains as a closed-system, but the interaction of people is still friendly and warm. However, people nowadays live in apartments that are detached and everybody lives closely to each other.

Final Model At the last stage of model making, I tried to place the building onto the site model so the building itself can be blended into the old community. As a result, the fragmentation of the faรงade is necessary to soften the exterior of the building. Moreover, windows are designed to bring light into the apartment.

Taipei city About taipei city

Taipei is a narrow and small city. To illustrate the sequence of history, Taipei has developed rapidly and become the capital city of Taiwan. Regardless of politics, economics, culture and related issues, Taipei City has always been the core, which gradually extended its development outward. Consequently, buildings stand in great numbers; cars, motorbikes and even highways have filled in the whole city. Due to the development of convenient transportation, tourism is now prosperous in the city area. The busy city becomes suffocated during the daytime. In comparison, on the weekends or at night, the commercial district attracts more people. The unique business activities, purchasing behavior and the intermixture of residential and commercial streets have made Taipei City a different place. Nevertheless, in order to create a remodeled space under such an atmosphere, I allowed the buildings to blend in and enjoy the charisma of the nightlife in Taipei City. 12

Local Business Model

Local Regional lifestyle and purchasing behavior at the nearby businesses are not a single case. The arcades bring business to this area. With the increase of crowds, the vendors are pushed onto the street to do business. Within only eight meters of the street, transportation, shoppers, and vendor businesses are all crowded and function together. In addition, long lines form at the well-known businesses, pushing people onto the street with cars and scooters squeezing through tight spaces. As a result, the pathway for the lines is altered accordingly all the time, just to co-exist with the transportation passing through. Prosperity is the distinguishing feature here, but every business is connected through residence. It feels like stepping into another world with just one turn. 13

A normal day's breakfast- or desayuno- typically consists merely of a cup of coffee, although it's also commonplace to accompany your steaming cafĂŠ con leche with a croissant or other pastry. While an American traditional breakfast has pancakes, bacon, and eggs, the Spanish "traditional" breakfast consists of the vastly popular churros, served sprinkled with sugar or dunked in hot chocolate. Spaniards eat their lunch, or comida, between 2:00 and 4:00 in the afternoon. Serving as the day's main meal, it is traditionally quite a bit larger than the dinner meal, or cena. A typical lunch will have several courses. The first course is the lighter part of the meal, usually consisting of a salad or soup, while the second course is normally your typical fish or meat dish. A dessert can be a simple piece of fruit, a typical Spanish flan, or a sweet pastry or cake. While there are of course many people who eat full meals, the Spanish dinner (cena) is traditionally much smaller than the midday comida. It often consisting of something lighter like a salad, a sandwich, or a selection of tapas. Spaniards eat late for this final meal of the day- even more so on weekends and during the summer- sitting down to eat anytime from 9:00 until 11:00 in the evening.

Roman Catholicism is the largest denomination of Christianity present in Spain by far. According to an February 2013 study by the Spanish Center of Sociological Research about 70.5% of Spaniards self-identify as Catholics

Pollution Contrary to popular belief, the process of manufacturing solar panels can and does create enormous amounts of harmful and toxic waste. Because the most of the solar panels consumed in the west are manufactured in China, the nature and extent of this pollution is hidden from the consumers of solar panels. We get the illusion of 'green, clean energy' on our shores, by exporting environmental ruin to the countries where the panels are manufactured. Polysilicon manufacturing yields the byproduct silicon tetrachloride, a highly dangerous and toxic chemical.
