Tennis enthusiasts have the rare opportunity this summer to learn from one of the best in the game— former world No. 1 Mats Wilander. “An Opportunity with Tennis Legend Mats Wilander” will take place August 14–16, 2022, at The Broadmoor, with fast-paced tennis drills, followed by courtside cocktails and an exhibition featuring Wilander. Participants will also receive ample one-on-one instruction with Wilander, a Swedish tennis player who was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2002.
Known for his stoic temperament and fierce groundstrokes, Wilander, in 1988, won the Australian Open, the French Open, and the U.S. Open.
Afsoon Kelly—a finance professional from Denver, who attended last summer’s tennis weekend with her husband—says she was pleasantly surprised by how much individual instruction attendees received from Wilander. “He’s a legend, and yet he’s so humble and down to earth,” Kelly says. “He remembers who you are, and what you need to work on.”

Advantage Broadmoor
The resort’s acclaimed tennis program includes equipment, instruction, and challenging competition for every player.
CONSISTENTLY RANKED AS ONE OF THE finest tennis resorts in the United States by Tennis magazine, The Broadmoor’s tennis program offers something for every level of player. The program has four senior staffers and a host of professionals dedicated to helping you take your game to the next level.
The instruction program includes awardwinning adult and junior tennis camps, drills, private instruction, and complimentary daily round-robin-style tournaments.
Pickleball has also become a full-blown craze at The Broadmoor. The program includes three certified pickleball pros; four dedicated courts, including three on-site and one perched atop The Broadmoor’s Cloud Camp at 9,100 feet; and a retail shop stocked with visors, T-shirts, balls, and fiberglass paddles from brands such as Head and Onix. “We heard lots of requests from our hotel guests coming from areas where pickleball was hot,” says Karen Schott, director of tennis at The Broadmoor. “We were also looking for more familyoriented activities, and pickleball fit the bill.”
Apart from being a fun and social drop-in sport, pickleball offers a great workout. It’s also relatively easy to learn, especially for current and former tennis players. “It’s getting people back on the court, and it’s about just playing and having fun,” Schott says.
