Elite Athlete Program 2025
TheEliteAthleteProgram(EAP)recognisesstudentswhosesuccessintheirchosenfieldhaspropelledthemintohighlycompetitive levelsofsport.Oftensuccessatthislevelplacesextraordinarytimedemandsonastudent.HVGSadvocatesaholisticandpersonalised approachtosupportingstudentlearning.TheEAPprovidesoptionsforflexiblelearningtothesestudentssotheycanpursuetheir sportingandacademicgoalsconcurrently
NominationsfortheHVGSEliteAthleteProgramcanbesubmittedby parents/carersorbytheSchool(HVGS) Onthereceiptofthe nomination,theEAPCommitteewillreviewtheapplications, requestinginterviewsasneeded.
Shouldastudentbeaccepted,therelevantEAPlevelwillbe determined,andconfirmationwillbeissued(seePage2) Theoffer willbereviewedyearly TheoffermaybeterminatedbytheSchoolat anytime,shouldthestudentbreachanySchoolPolicy,orthe responsibilitiesasoutlinedinthestakeholderresponsibilities.
Eligibility
Allapplicantsmust:
BeacurrentHVGSstudent.
HaveachievedselectionfortheirnominatedsportatRegional, State,NationalorInternationallevel.
Demonstrateacommitmenttotrainingand/orcoaching,either withinHVGSorwithexternalopportunities
Demonstratestrongapproachestolearningskills.
DemonstratetheHVGSSchoolValuesandinvolvementinthe Schoolcommunity.

EAPContinuingParticipation
ThosestudentswhoarecurrentlyenrolledinEAPandwouldliketo continuethefollowingyearshould:

Obligations
Studentswillbeexpectedto: BeactivelycommittedtotheHVGSsportprogrami e participationinHVGSRepteams,attendingtrainingforRep teams(wherepossible),attendingStrength&Conditioning sessions.
Maintaincommunicationregardingexternalsports commitments,peaktrainingperiods,foreseenclasheswith academictasks,regularlymeetingwithanominatedHVGSEAP mentor.
CommitmenttotheSchoolʼsvaluesinallaspectsoftheirschool life.
Maintainconscientiouseffortacrossallsubjects(tobereviewed witheachacademicreportingperiod)
Parentswillbeexpectedto:
MaintaincommunicationwiththeEAPMentorproviding informationregardingtrainingandperformancedemands Actasacommunicationconduitbetweentheschooland otherexternalsupportsfortheathlete,i.e.outside coachesortrainers.
Supporttheirchildtomeettheiracademicrequirements.
HVGSwillbeexpectedto:
Maintaincommunicationwithstudent,parentandotherHVGS staff.

Elite Athlete Program Provisions
ThearetwolevelsofprovisionswhichmaybeavailabletostudentsacceptedtotheEAP,asdetailed below.Suchprovisionsmaybeadjustedthroughouttheyearasaresponsetothechangingneeds ofthestudent.PlacesarecappedfortheEliteAthleteProgram.
Level1 EntryLevel
Criteria
StudentsareengagedintheirfieldataRegionalorStatelevelandtraining/practiceandperformanceinvolvesapproximatelyten(10) hoursperweek.ThisisinadditiontoanyHVGScommitmenttheymayhave.
EAPAcademicandWellbeingMentor
Aschool-basedEAPMentorwillbeappointedtoprovidesupport,adviceand guidancetoHVGSEAPStudents TheywillmeetwithEAPstudentstoassist themwithbalancingtheirstudyandsportcommitments
TheMentorwill: actasacommunicationconduitbetweenthestudent,parents/carersand significantHVGSstaff supportthedevelopmentofthestudentʼstimemanagementandselfmanagementskills

Criteria
StudentsareengagedintheirfieldataState,NationalorInternationallevelandtraining/practiceandperformanceinvolvesinexcessof fourteen(14)hoursoftimeperweek,onaverage.ThisisinadditiontoanyHVGScommitmenttheymayhave.StudentsinLevel2 provisionswillalsoaccesstheLevel1provisions.
AnEAPprovidesflexibilityforstudentstomeetboththeirsportandcurriculum commitmentsthroughcurriculumaccommodations
Supportplanaccommodationsmayincludebutarenotlimitedto:
Year7and8Students
Maycontinuetoelecttostudyafullacademicprogram,or Mayhaveadjustmentsmadearoundcurriculumrequirements(content, attendance,assessment).
CustomizedEliteAthleteSupportPlan(EASP)
Year9and10students:
Maycontinuetoelecttostudyafullacademicprogram,or Mayhaveadjustmentsmadearoundcurriculumrequirements(content, attendance,assessment).
Maybeprovidedstudyblocksduringtheschoolday.
Year11and12students(inadditiontotheabove):
Mayelecttoundertakethisstudyover3yearsthroughNESApathway Mayelect(Athletessports)relatedcareerstudiesthroughtheCPpathway.
HeadofFuturesandCareers,HeadofCurriculumYear11&12andHeadofCoCurricularSportstoprovidesupporttoidentifypostschooloptions. TravelGrants
May be provided to student athletes who are selected in a team that requires travel interstate or overseas for competition. Grants of up to $500 subject to assessmentofneed/meritmaybeappliedfor.
How to Apply
New Application
All HVGS Elite Program applicants must:
1.Submit an online Application and pay the $150 non-refundable Elite Athlete Program Application Fee.
2. Submit a Portfolio showing that the applicant has reached an outstanding level in sport achievement and their Representative history of their nominated Sport(s). Please include:
Copies of sporting certificates, medals, awards and provide a short summary of the information provided in the Portfolio (dot points accepted).
Statement summarising the applicants sporting goals for the next 12 months, current training commitments and anticipated training commitments.
3. Provide a statement describing "WhyyouwouldliketobeapartoftheEliteAthletesProgramatHVGSandwhat doesitmeantoyou?"
All HVGS Elite Program applicants must:

Continuing Participation
Online Application
Application for continued participation for current EAP Students must:
1 Submit an online Application and pay the $150 non-refundable Elite Athlete Program Continuing Participation Fee
2.Submit a list of their key competition events and results for 2024.
3. Submit their anticipated training and competition schedule for 2025.
4. Complete a short questionnaire that captures how they have met their EAP obligations in 2024.

As per the EAP student obligations, have you actively engaged with (consistently, intermittently, not at all):
1. Wellbeing check-ins with the EAP mentor.
2.Strength & conditioning with the EAP mentor.
3. Participated in HVGS Rep Sports where possible.
4. Maintained regular communication with the EAP mentor regarding your sports commitments, peak training periods and academic tasks
