The Diversity and Inclusion Resource is a collaboration between Huron County Children’s Services and the Huron County Local Immigration Partnership to offer service providers ready access to a wide array of information to support newcomers and children—prenatal to age six—and their families. While every effort has been made to include as many resources as possible, some may have unintentionally been omitted. DEFINITIONS The following definitions of diversity and inclusion have been adapted from those utilized by the Ontario Public Service: Diversity - Refers to the presence of a wide range of human qualities and attributes within a community. The dimensions of diversity include, but are not limited to age, gender, race, ethnicity, physical and intellectual ability, religion, sexual orientation, educational background, and income level. Dimensions of Diversity - The dimensions of diversity include, but are not limited to age, gender, race, ethnicity, physical and intellectual ability, sexual orientation, educational background, expertise and income level. Inclusion - Inclusion is about creating an environment that accepts, utilizes, accommodates and appreciates the talents, skills, abilities, perspectives and leadership styles of all people, including aspects of their diversity, so that we all have a place in the community. It’s about ensuring that we all have equal access to sharing and using our skills and talents equally in, being a part of, and contributing to the community. It’s about taking deliberate steps to welcome, accept and value all individuals.
