“I am on a mission to empower young Chicago woman by showcasing the amazing community of Chicago women entrepreneurs, business professionals, talents and role models.” -Bee Li, Editor N Chief of ME: In Focus Magazine

Describe your Style... It’s a little bit of everything. I tend to veer towards a lot of classic, understated looks that can work from day to night, and can be jazzed up with a variety of accessories. Lately I have fallen in love all over again with bright colors and bold prints, and I love dresses and dressing up – which is odd considering I grew up as a tomboy. Versatility, comfort and a certain timeless quality are what I typically look for when I choose pieces. I’m equally comfortable in a killer pair of stilettos (I have a weakness for shoes) as I am backpacking through the wilderness in my big old hiking boots. I used to be in the corporate world and was limited to conservative, business casual wear, so it’s so refreshing that I can take more risks and be more creative with my wardrobe now. What is your biggest HUSH? I have a lot of nicknames. Bee, of course. My other one is Mama. I was enstooled as a Queen Mother (female chief) of a village in Ghana after a summer teaching there. My official title is Queen Mother Mama Asinor II, but for short everyone calls me Mama. What advice would you give to entrepreneurs? Know who you are. Know yourself inside and out. Know what your standards are, what’s acceptable and what your purpose is and what motivates you to keep pushing forward. . a sense of humor really goes a long way in just about everything. Have no fear, so it’s the opportunity to take risks and follow your own path so you will never ask have to ask “What if?” meinfocusmag.com

The fashion community has changed so much and I have to say that Chicago is where it’s at right now. My new show is going to be very vintage inspired. All of my collections tend to have some type of elements from the past. This collection will be no different! So now, I am exposed! I will see you at the show !

Movements have been launched with the tea leaves and buds, and tea is in an integral part of many cultures from the English midday meal of Tea, tea parties, the complex Japanese tea ceremonies, and as a center of many social gathering sin the Middle East. Tea is life as it’s a part of many economies, daily socialization, and our health. Cooking with Tea Ideas Tea is a great way to add flavor to both pastries and savory items. Consider smoking fish duck, chicken over tea for a great smoky flavor. Infuse Earl Gray cream in the popular cream be-fore making ice cram or fillings for cakes and pastries. The Chinese have long cooked with tea and make beautiful marbled eggs this way by cracking the shells to create the effect. Consider adding tea to your marinades as well. Entertaining with Tea For your next Sunday brunch or Bridal / Baby Shower, consider holding a tea tasting with various teas from all over the world and the appropriate accouterments. Serve various pastries and savory sandwiches to go with or other dishes with tea notes. Like a tea smoked chicken salad. Or be more traditional and hold a traditional Devonshire Tea or Cream Tea. That’s a meal consisting of Black Tea, Clotted Cream and scones with jam.

If you don’t know James De Colon... You should keep that on the HUSH!

n o i h on T

he idea behind the magazine sounds so

wonderful I would love to be a part of it! Mr. James De Colon (during out first phone convo)

Designing since the age of 14, he is Chicago’s own Oscar de la Renta. His credits would probably take up all 64 pages of our April Issue! I think that it is worth mentioning that he has been featured in over 20 fashion magazines, he has done over 100 fashion shows and he serves as a mentor to design students at some of Chicago’s most influential Colleges.

c i

Yet, he is probably one of the biggest HUSH’S in the City. Originally from New York, he wanted to be an actor and not a designer. Who leaves New York to open a boutique in Puerto Rico? James De Colon, that’s who! This turned out to be a brilliant move. “Women down there were hungry for high fashion and welcomed my designs”, De Colon mentions. Lucky for us, he was lured to the Mag Mile and the Chicago Theatre District in 2001 and has been building the House of De Colon ever since. His newest Spring/Summer 2010 Collection is featured in the fashion editorial “Pretty In A Box” and his dramatic sense of design is displayed in the fashion editorial “Pretty Classic”. (pages 30-41 / pages 50-55) What stars would you like to dress?

JDC: I love Kate Hudson, I love Beyonce and Catherine Zeta-Jones, the list cold go on and on and on. Every woman that I dress is a celebrity to me.

We are honored to have you at the top of our food chain here in Chicago’s Fashion Community. Mr. De Colon, keep bringing the pretty!
