Jim Eisenreich played for Minnesota, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Florida and Los Angeles. In 1996, Eisenreich batted .361 for the Phillies - the highest Philadelphia batting average since Smoky Burgess hit .368 in 1954. He also reached the 1,000 major league hit plateau in 1996. He was drafted by the Twins in the 16th round of the 1980 June free agent draft. He voluntarily retired in June of 1984, due to Tourette’s syndrome, after spending parts of three seasons with the Twins. He made his comeback with the Royals in 1987 and spent four full seasons with Kansas City (1989-92) before signing with Philadelphia as a free agent prior to the 1993 season. He played for the world champion Florida Marlins in 1997. Bob Hegman played for seven seasons in Kansas City organization and reached the majors in 1985. and went on to serve as the Royals’ director of minor league operations. Dana Kiecker pitched with the Red Sox during the 1990 and 1991 seasons and posted a career ERA of 4.68 with a 10-12 record and 114 strikeouts. Greg Thayer pitched for the Minnesota Twins in the 1978 season, posting a 1-0 record and a 3.80 ERA in 45.0 innings pitched. Thayer played at St. Cloud State from 1969-1971. He had a 6-3 career record and an ERA of 2.86. Former SCSU player Eldon “Rip” Repulski played in the majors from 1953-1961 with the Cardinals, Phillies, Dodgers and Red Sox. He collected 830 hits, 106 homers, 416 RBIs and batted .268 during his career. The newest former Husky to join the MLB ranks is pitcher Nick Anderson, who played for Miami and Tampa Bay in 2019. Anderson played at SCSU from 2009-11. He finished his college career at Mayville state before playing pro ball in the independent Frontier League and later in the Minnesota Twins’ organization with minor stops at Cedar Rapids (A), Fort Myers (A), Chattanoga (AA) and Rochester (AAA). He was traded to the Miami organization before the start of the 2019 season. Hegman, Eisenreich and Kiecker are members of the SCSU Athletic Hall of Fame.
