WARNINGS

• Take EXTREME CARE when connecting the bale feeder to the three-point linkage of a tractor or carrier frame of a telehandler. Ensure the tractor/telehandler handbrake is applied before leaving the cab.

• The main frame MUST be correctly latched onto the three-point linkage frame before lifting the bale feeder off the ground.

• ALL persons and animals must be keep WELL CLEAR of the machine in operation and when traveling.

• Shut off the tractor BEFORE trying to clear feed material or cut strings/ net from anywhere around the machine.

• Watch CAREFUL when driving for over-width and tail-swing when traveling through gateways or near objects or people.

• When feeder is not being used, ensure children CANNOT play on or near the machine.

• BEFORE attempting maintenance or any work, ensure the tractor engine is shut off and no one is near the hydraulic controls.

• DO NOT allow any person(s) to ride on the machine at ANY time.

• Take EXTREME CARE when lifting the feeder on a front loader, telehandler or skid steer loader as this changes the balance point and could tip the vehicle over.

• NO alteration or modification is to be done on this machine unless undertaken by Hustler or its authorised dealer. This will void the warranty.

• Vehicle MUST be operated at low speed when bale feeder is attached. Must be kept low the ground when traveling on a front loader or telehandler.

• DO NOT use for transporting anything other than a bale

• KEEP CLEAR of moving feed bars and chain these may pinch causing severe injury.

• KEEP CLEAR of feed bars. These have sharp points which are needed for teasing the bale.

4

• ENSURE drive coupling covers are in place. KEEP CLEAR of the drive coupling as hands or clothing may get caught

• ENSURE the rear fence is securely fastened when feeding on hill country, this stops the bale from falling out the back of the feeder.

• ENSURE operator is familiar with the auto latch system. When the bale feeder is lowered to the ground whatever machine it is attached to, the three-point linkage will separate from the mainframe. It is important to remember this when lifting the bale feeder into or off a transport truck/trailer. See Operating Instructions section for more.

• Take EXTREME CARE when driving or feeding on hill country that the bale does not roll out of the feed chamber. Optional side bars are available from your local Hustler dealer.

• ENSURE the tyne points are touching the ground when the threepoint linkage unit is attached to a tractor/telehandler and not in use or motion.

• ENSURE the three-point linkage unit is latched to the main frame of the bale feeder when disconnected from a tractor/telehandler.

• KEEP CLEAR of moving latch hook and sliding feet They are needed to unlatch the bale feeder from the three-point linkage unit and may cause pinch point.

• Take EXTREME CARE when driving on hill country with the bale feeder attached. Avoid traversing any slopes steeper than 12° as this may cause tractor/telehandler to roll over, resulting in SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH

• When the machine is freighted in a shipping container, ensure correct assembly procedure is followed. See ‘CHAIN FEEDER ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS’ attached to the machine.

WARNING!

BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY MAINTENANCE, ENSURE ENGINE IS SHUT OFF AND NO ONE IS NEAR THE HYDRAULIC CONTROLS

5

MAINTENANCE

(also do this before initial operation)

• Grease all points regularly.

• These are:

• 4x main shaft bearings (do not over grease).

• 2x drive couplings

• All friction surfaces of mechanical latch mechanism

• Inside the hook latch contact surface

• Keep the 2 drive chains oiled. Use non-tacky black or brown chain lube monthly.

• After the first 10 hours of operation check all bolts and grub screws are tight.

• During routine servicing check that the grub screws and bolts are tight.

• Ensure the chain tension is checked regular. It can be tightened by adjusting the four tensioners evenly. See adjustments section for more

• Check the linkage mounting bolts are tight at all times. Depending on the mounting bracket this may be three point linkage brackets or loader /telehandler mounting brackets.

• Ensure bale tyne tightness is regularly checked. Tynes should be tightened to 700 Newton meters. This is equal to applying 70 KGs to a one-meter bar.

OPERATIONAL INSTRUCTIONS

Connecting bale feeder onto tractor/telehandler etc.

• Connect hitch (3-point linkage/loader/telehandler) to Unrolla LM105/LX105/LX104 series bale feeder.

• With the tractor and Unrolla LM105/LX105/LX104 sitting on level ground adjust the top link so the pin is halfway along the slot.

• Connect the two hydraulic hoses

• Some bales are just plain difficult for any feeder, however the Unrolla LM105/LX105/LX104 series will generally feed these out. If you experience a problem, try feeding the bale out the other side. This will unroll the bale instead of trying to pull it a part.

• Familiarise yourself with the hydraulic controls on the machine.

Loading Round Bales

• For loading wrapped bales ensure the bale is on its round, first remove the plastic wrap only.

• For loading net wrap bales – ensure the bale is on its round.

• DO NOT remove string or net-wrap at this stage.

• Lower the bale feeder to the ground, it will automatically unlatch

• Drive out from the mainframe and spear the bale as low as possible ensuring the tynes are inside the net wrap

• Lift the bale over the top of the feed chamber.

• Remove the net from the bale

• With the net removed finished lowering the bale onto the platform

• Attach the mainframe back together with the three-point linkage unit until you hear the latch ‘clack’

• Lift up and you’re ready to feed.

7

OPERATIONAL INSTRUCTIONS CONT.

Feeding out Round Bales

• Ensure the machine is as level as possible, then operate the lever to start feeding out.

• Start feeding and travelling at the same time. On an older bale the material will come off thicker and quicker. Simply stop/start the chains to minimize this.

• When feeding in an open field drive slightly to the right. This helps to see the material feeding onto the ground. To achieve a thinner feedout line increase tractor speed.

Auto Latch

• When disconnecting the mainframe from the three-point linkage unit simply lower the bale feeder onto the ground and the auto latch will unlatch.

• It is very important to know when lowering the feeder onto or off a transport truck/trailer the mainframe will unlatch if the safety strap has been removed. This strap must be removed BEFORE connecting the feeder to a tractor/telehandler.

Tyne Installation:

When installing tynes in the 3PTL frame, please ensure the bale tynes are installed with the I Beam Profile standing upright like this:

Don’t install like this:

ADJUSTMENTS

Feed Chain

Check the feed chain tension regularly. Tighten if necessary, by adjusting the 4 tensioners. With a bale in the cradle, simply loosen the top tensioner bolt (circled below) slide the tensioner down to take up the chain slack, then re-tighten the bolt. It is important to tension the chains with a bale in the cradle.
