WARNINGS • Take EXTREME CARE when connecting the sprayer to the three point linkage of a tractor. Ensure the tractor handbrake is applied before leaving the cab. • ALL persons must be kept WELL CLEAR of machine during operation. • Shut the tractor off and lowe machine to the ground BEFORE resuming any maintenance or repairs of the machine. • ENSURE the tractor is turned off when connecting or disconnecting the PTO (power take off) to the tractor. • Watch CAREFULLY when driving for over-width and tail-swing when travelling through gateways or near objects or people. Take extra CARE when the boom is unfolded. • DO NOT allow person(s) to ride on the machine at ANY time. • Take EXTREME care when working on hilly or rutty terrain as weight can move quickly reducing stability of the tractor. This may cause the tractor to roll over causing SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. • ENSURE all cables/hoses are well clear of the PTO. • The PTO can cause SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH if great care is not taken. • ALWAYS Check manufacturer’s specifications before opening or mixing chemicals. ALWAYS wear the recomended clothing and protective equipment. • NO alteration or modification is to be done on this machine unless undertaken by Hustler or its authorised dealer. This will void warranty. • Vechile MUST be operated at low speed when sprayer is attached.

6

MAINTENANCE (also do this before initial operation)

• Check pump oil daily (look at pump manual for oil requirements.) • Keep grease on the main boom pivot points if fitted. • Run anti-freese through the pump when not in use, especially in frosty weather. • Check nozzles for signs of wear regularly, especially when using more corrosive chemicals as worn nozzles can casue inconsistent spray rates. • Keep all filter elements clean • Regularly grease telescopic PTO shaft universal joints.

Regular Servicing 50 hour service • • • • •

Check pump oil level Grease PTO shaft and boom pivot points Ensure no leaks around tank fittings and connections Check all bolts are tight. Check and clean suction filter and nozzle filters.

300 Hour Service • Replace oil in pump • Check for any pressure variances during operation - Check diaphragms and replace if worn. • Ensure control valve pressurises and bypasses properly.

Annual Service • Check and replace diaphragms and valves if necessary. ( a pump repair kit can be purchased) • Change oil if not done for 300 hours. • Give whole sprayer a check over for loose bolts, connections etc.

7

OPERATIONAL INSTRUCTIONS Connecting Sprayer to tractor ( Ensure tractor is turned off) • • • • •

Hook up 3 point linkage onto tractor Tighten sway chains to stop movement. Run cables (if electrics fitted) up into tractor cab. Connect PTO shaft to tractor. Lift 3 point linkage up to horizontal making sure PTO doesnt bottom out (If PTO is too long it will need to be cut down)

Filling the tank • Read chemical mixing instructions for best mixture (some recommend putting chemical into half full tank then finish filling.) • To fill the tank put hose in the top main tank lid (or connect via the CoupleUp system) keeping an eye on the level gauge on the front to avoid overflowing. • Have the PTO going and, depending on the chemical agitate throughly while pouring it in. • Once main tank is full, fill handwash tank and optional flushing tank if fitted. Fill foam marker tank also if fitted.

Boom Spraying Operating the Control Valve: Section control taps

Pressure Gauge

Pressure adjustment knob

To start boom sprayeing, turn PTO onto 540rpm. Open appropriate taps on the controller to the boom sections you require. Turn the pressure adjustment knob to the target pressure on the gauge to get your required rate per hectare. Then referring to the nozzle chart set your speed to suit the pressure and nozzle type you have. 8

OPERATIONAL INSTRUCTIONS CONT. Gun Spraying Turn PTO to 540rpm. Open the control tap that operates the hose reel. Screw pressure knob to suited pressure depending on you application. Spot spraying weeds, thistles etc. only requires low pressure, 5-8 bar while gorse and large area spraying could require 15-18 bar.

General spraying information Ideal spraying conditions are when wind is low, temperature is low and humidity is relatively high. Refer to chemical specs for ideal times. The ideal boom height is 50cm off the ground or crop you’re spraying. This will give max coverage and correct overlap between nozzles.

Agitation and flushing out the sprayer Agitator tap in bypass position for no agitation

Agitator tap in full agitation position for thick chemicals

Optional flush tank tap in spraying position

Fresh water tap in flushing position sucking water from fresh water tank (green) 9

If electric controls with pressure adjustment are fitted, then pressure can be altered on the move with the in-cab pressure adjustment switch. 10

TROUBLE SHOOTING Pump won’t prime: • • • •

No liquid in tank Suction filter blocked Filter valve closed Check all suction hoses (clear) for signs of air bubbles and trace to leakage • Control valve isn’t on bypass

Pump won’t build pressure: • • • • • • • •

Tractor RPM too low (should be 540RPM) Suction filter blocked Changeover ball valve turned to fresh water tank Control valve on bypass Sucking air at some point Pressure gauge faulty Diaphragms gone in pump- pump oil will go grey and bubbly Pump capacity not sufficient to service nozzles

Pump is noisy or pulses: • Pump pressure chamber is too low- re-pressurise to similar pressure to spraying; pressure (only on pumps with accumulator fitted) • An air lock in the suction lines, - open valves to bleed air out of system • Pump valves and o-rings worn • Valves in pump sticking from chemical residue build up or air lock in system - Alternate revs up and down between 3OO-6OOrpm to free sticky valves then set back to normal operating speed.
