After several months together, Toffee’s parents forbid her from dating Jonny, who, in his grief, takes his own life by flinging himself off the nearby Francis Gary Powers nuclear power plant. But poor Jonny doesn’t stay dead. Drawn from the grave by the love of Toffee, he returns to school and immediately is met with revile from both students and the principal, Miss Strict (Eva Planthold). But for every gain Jonny makes toward winning over the student body, the adamantly antizombie Miss Strict digs in her heels further.

So take out your road map and join in the fun. Here are a few of the places you can go: (Happy traveling!) CANTON – Spend Halloween with some bison. PUBLIC VOTING RETURNING TO SOUP, CHILI FESTIVAL BY TIM SCHRAG For The Bee tschrag@hutchnews.com
With more than 25 participants, this Saturday’s Downtown Hutchinson Soup and Chili Festival is shaping up to be chock-full of crocks ... the pots not the shoes. “We’ll have 33 different pots of goodness,” said Eric Steinle, festival coordinator. Featured in the festival will be 23 chili recipes and 10 takes on soup. Returners to this year’s festival include Apron Strings, Hayes Sight & Sound and Sarah’s Catholic Bookstore. In addition to returning competitors, community judging is back by popular demand. Last year, Downtown Hutch decided to use a set of judges instead of the traditional public vote. Ballots will be entered in a drawing for $100 in Downtown Hutch bucks. “It’s why we do this,” Steinle said. “It’s to promote our downtown and get people down there to see and shop in the businesses. ... Of course, all of the great smells of soups doesn’t hurt either.” Those wishing to partake in judging can purchase a wristband for $5.
IF YOU GO WHAT: Downtown Hutchinson Soup and Chili Festival WHEN: 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday WHERE: Downtown Hutchinson COST: $5; children 12 and under are free

Homer Gilson, owner of 5th Avenue Suites Inn, removes a ladle of chili from a pot for people to sample during the Downtown Hutchinson Soup and Chili Festival on Oct. 27, 2012.
Children 12 and under will be able to attend for free. Downtown Development Director Jim Seitnater said the festival is one of Downtown Hutch’s longest running promotions, lasting more than 20 years.
“It’s a really fun day in downtown,” Seitnater said. “We have some great sponsors.” Tasting begins at 11:30 a.m. and lasts until 2 p.m. or until the food is gone. Both Steinle and Seitnater encourage the public to show up early. Steinle said he’s seen a great deal of variety among the soups and chilies over the years, varying from sweet to spicy in chilies, and past soup notables such as sauerkraut soup and a southwest soup. “There are so many different varieties,” he said. “I try to taste them all.” Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places in both categories as well as consolation prizes for the best decorated booth and best costumes/most enthusiastic booth. Winners will be announced at a later date. Steinle said representatives from Downtown Hutchinson will be handing out $10 downtown gift certificates to members of the public dressed in Halloween costumes. In addition to the soups and chilies, the festival with have live music from four bands, including the Hutchinson Community College Jazz Band in Avenue A Park.
