Our Curriculum

Core Curriculum First we start with the fundamentals: reading, writing, math and science. We root our scholars’ education in these subjects with custom literacy and math programs and by offering science five days a week starting in kindergarten.

Beyond the Core Our keen focus on rigorous instruction in the core subjects does not eclipse our development of the whole child. Our curriculum includes regular instruction in chess, geography, art, blocks, typing, computer programming and team sports. Through our field studies program, we use New York City as a classroom, hosting weekly trips to museums and exploring historical and cultural landmarks.

Middle School Design Our middle school curriculum builds upon our elementary school foundation, with a greater emphasis on humanities and current events. Our focus is on oral and written communication, presentation skills, independence and critical thinking to ensure our scholars have the tools they need to graduate from highly selective colleges. T School: Our Program for Teacher Development

We Invest in Teachers At Success Academy, we go beyond the boundaries of traditional programs to prepare our educators in areas critical to success. We provide our teachers with extensive training on curriculum and classroom management through in-person training, lab sites, video and real-time coaching. Our teachers receive more than 300 hours of high-quality professional development every year in our “T School”.

Key elements of “T School” include: Teach-backs. Skilled leaders conduct rapid-fire “teach-backs”, where each teacher in a group teaches the same lesson in quick succession. After each individual teach-back, we give constructive feedback that the next teacher can then incorporate into his or her teach-back. Thereby, by the end of the teach-backs, teachers will have seen a lesson 6-7 times and have learned how to deliver an excellent lesson.

Lab sites. Lab site leaders model lessons to scholars for the teachers, who subsequently teach the lesson to a smaller scholar group as school leaders observe and provide realtime, supportive feedback.

Our A.C.T.I.O.N. Values and School Culture

Agency Scholars, parents and staff ALL take ownership in meeting high standards! Curiosity Our schools are fueled by wonder! Scholars are encouraged to ask about their world. Try and Try We expect our scholars to employ grit and determination in reaching their goals. Integrity Our community is based on honesty, transparency and professionalism. Others From helping others to smiling in the hallway, we build a community of mutual respect and support. No Shortcuts Excellence in education takes time, effort and commitment toward attaining success.

School Culture At Success Academies, college is at the forefront of scholars’ minds from the first day of school. By the time scholars complete middle school they will have visited 8-9 colleges, creating a tangible experience and link to their goal of graduating from college.
