Equine Affaire’s unparalleled trade show will bring together exhibitors from every corner of the equine industry allowing you to see, evaluate, try on, and buy the items you’ve heard of, read about in magazines, and viewed small pictures of online. Forego online chats with far-off company reps and interact with knowledgeable Equine Affaire vendors who will provide personal assistance and answers to your questions on the spot. At Equine Affaire you can spend four days wandering a trade show that will fill five trade show halls and learn about a wide range of equine products and services from tack, apparel, and how-to DVDs to insurance, arena footing, feeds, supplements, and equine-related art. If a new horse trailer is in your future, spend time with knowledgeable representatives of most major trailer brands and gain a real understanding of differences in construction, features, and costs. Meet with barn, farm equipment, stall, or fencing company professionals and get the facts you need to create a new equestrian facility or improve the one you have. You’ll find an array of interesting new products for you and your horse in the New Product Showcase in the Mallary South—and 16

The Horses Equine Affaire is all about horses—and horses take center stage and soak up the attention of adoring admirers in Equine Affaire’s impressive Breed Pavilion and Horse & Farm Exhibits. Horses representing nearly 40 breeds from throughout the world are expected to participate in exhibits and demonstrations throughout the four days of the event, and enthusiastic representatives of a wealth of breed associations will be on hand in the Breed Pavilion to share information about the virtues of their breeds, association activities, and horses for sale. Stop by and visit with a rotating cast of stallions, mares, and geldings in the Breed Pavilion and discover the breed that is the best fit for your equestrian pursuits. Extensive Horse and Farm Exhibits featured within C-Barn will complement

the Breed Pavilion by providing attendees opportunities to interact and consult with individual horse owners, trainers, and facility managers about horses for sale, stallions at stud, training services, and boarding facilities located throughout the region.
Focusing on Young Riders At Equine Affaire the next generation of horsemen and women have a special place to call their own: the Youth Pavilion. This diverse, kid-friendly pavilion features loads of interesting youth-related exhibits, hands-on activities, breed demonstrations, and instructional demos presented by many of Equine Affaire’s top clinicians. The Youth Pavilion will be an interactive outlet for horse-crazy children as well as a place for more serious young riders to hone their skills. Fun activities for the youngest horse fans will include the Wahl Clipper Corp Stick Horse Rodeo and the Coloring Book of Breeds (presented by Wild Horsefeathers) while older kids may rise to the challenges of the equine trivia quest. The Youth Pavilion will also feature the Celebrity Horse Showcase where kids and their parents will come nose to nose with famous horses giving children the chance to meet true equine stars.

The Versatile Horse & Rider Competition Returns Yes, we listen to what Equine Affaire attendees have to say. In response to a huge demand that we bring back the Versatile Horse & Rider Competition (aka VHRC) to Equine Affaire in New England, we’ve added the race back into the schedule. As veteran Equine Affaire goers know, the VHRC is a fastpaced, timed and judged race through an obstacle course that is designed not only to push horse and rider teams out of their traditional “comfort zones,” but also to test communication between horse and rider and the horsemanship skills and athletic abilities of each competing team. Thirty pre-selected horse and rider teams will compete for the title of “2013 Massachusetts Versatile Horse & Rider Competition Champion” and $5,500 in cash and other prizes. “The Versatile Horse & Rider Competition has become an incredibly popular feature of Equine Affaire,” explained Eugenia Snyder, “I think that part of the appeal is the fun of watching riders who are willing to put their riding skills on the line in front of a large audience—and part is the unspoken educational element of the race. Riders in the audience find themselves empathizing with contestants as they approach difficult obstacles and experience success or failure in working their
horses through the course. The race is as much of an educational experience as a source of entertainment because you inevitably learn a lot by observing different approaches to the same obstacles and the horsemanship skills of dozens of riders on horses of a wide variety of breeds.” The qualifying rounds for this year’s competition will be conducted on Thursday morning, and the top 10 teams will advance to the finals, which will take place Friday afternoon in the coliseum.
Equine Affaire’s Versatile Horse & Rider Competition offers a chance at $5,500 in cash and other prizes.

Generous Sponsors Make Equine Affaire Possible All of the unique and affordable horse-related opportunities available at Equine Affaire are made possible through the generous sponsorship of dozens of equine-related companies and organizations. We extend our sincere thanks to Ariat, Farnam, Light ‘N Lasting Vinyl Jump Equipment, Nutrena, Nutramax Laboratories, Horizon Structures, Southern States Cooperative, and the many other companies that have endorsed the educational mission of Equine Affaire through their sponsorships.

Equine Affaire’s Fantasia A “Must See” for Horse Lovers Young and Old Equine Affaire’s legendary musical celebration of the horse—the Fantasia—will provide the perfect ending to a busy day of learning, shopping, and reveling in all things horse-related at Equine Affaire in West Springfield, MA, this November. As the entertainment “cornerstone” of Equine Affaire’s remarkable program of activities for horse lovers of all ages, the Fantasia is always an uplifting and special reminder of why we are intrigued by horses. Where else can you feel the power of huge draft horse rigs thundering through the arena, be amazed by the precision riding of a first-class equestrian drill team, be inspired by the precise movements of a Grand Prix dressage horse and rider, be enthralled by the stunning beauty of Friesians and engaging spirit of Icelandics, and witness the incredible intelligence of highly-trained trick horses in just one night? The 2013 Fantasia will take place at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, November 7-9 in the coliseum at the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, MA. Tickets are already on sale for this hugely popular event, so it’s time to plan ahead to gather with friends and family members to take in an evening of incredible entertainment and special performances by exceptional horses and riders from all corners of the country.
What to Expect Put a lot of great horses, great riders, great music, and an energized audience of diehard horse lovers in one coliseum and—voila!—you have all the ingredients for the Fantasia. “The 2013 Fantasia will feature a blend of comedy, drama, fast-paced action, remarkable horsemanship, and amazing horses,” explains Eugenia Snyder, the president of Equine Affaire. “We are very pleased to welcome back Clay Maier from Lexington, KY, who will be performing a beautiful pas de deux in addition to an impressive tandem driving routine with his sensational Friesians.” Other performers will include the award-winning Canadian Cowgirls drill team, the Vermont-based Silver Maple Icelandics, and the incomparable equestrian performer Guy McLean and his equine companions. “We have several special acts in development for this year’s show and several special performers that we hope to keep secret pre-event,” continues Snyder. “The element of surprise is part of what makes the Fantasia so much fun. Let’s just say that there will be a mix of Grand Prix dressage, high jumping, reining, docking, Roman riding, and at least one famous horse that will make us all laugh when he outsmarts his famous trainer. It’s going to be a great
