of the success they have found. “It’s so bizarre. Whenever we reflect, you are overwhelmed with how mad it is; it’s just not logical,” Marshall said. The love of being on the road has helped fuel the band to its success by being out there sharing their music in person, he said. “Our common interest, apart from the music, is touring and going places we haven’t been to before,” Marshall said. “It’s thanks to people who are buying the music and (concert) tickets that we get to continue to do this.” The band will be joined by some of its favorites — an array of bands from Nashville-based to as far away as the UK. Marshall said there wasn’t just one moment for band members when they realized they had “made

I have had amazing reports about what to expect,” he said. “This tour is amazing; it’s something that we love.” Now that the band has a year of the Gentlemen of the Road Stopover tours under its belt, Marshall said this year’s events will be much more enjoyable for the band. “Last year, I was nervous. This year, I’m very excited,” he said. “It’s going to be amazing.” Looking back, Marshall said he and fellow band mates practically pinch themselves each morning when they get up — in awe

Tickets for the Aug. 30-31 Gentlemen of the Road Stopover — featuring headlining act Mumford & Sons — sold out within a few hours Friday afternoon. “We are absolutely thrilled and excited to have sold out so quickly,” said Karin Manovich, executive director of Troy Main Street. “Now it’s time for the work to begin in preparation.” Other performers at Troy Memorial Stadium include Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Vaccines, Half Moon Run, Those Darlins, Willy Mason and Bear’s Den. Activities also will be set up downtown as part of the Gentlemen of the Road Stopover. “Most of downtown will be set up as a festival, with performances in select venues and vendors and entertainment in the streets like Troy Streets Alive,” Manovich said. “Admission to downtown will be a very nominal fee — you just can’t get into Troy Memorial Stadium.” Local bands will be hired to play downtown as well, she said, adding that details are still being finalized. “If you didn’t get tickets, you just won’t have access to the entire festival, but it will be really really fun,” Manovich said. it.” There have been many. “I don’t want to sound spoiled or blase, in one aspect, the journey of the band has been steadily doing bigger and bigger venues. We have spent the last six years touring and touring. It’s been a slow build,” Marshall said. “There’s been a lot of those moments. “Lots of bands dream about playing on the telly (TV), and we dreamed about going to America to play music. Then, there was playing with Bob Dylan — that was mental.” The band’s sophomore effort, “Babel” — released in September — shows its musical growth from its
first offering, “Sigh No More,” Marshall said. “Babel” was the secondbiggest selling debut in 2012 in the U.S. and included the No. 1 hit “I Will Wait” — which topped the Billboard rock chart in late 2012 — and the No. 12 single “Lover of the Light.” Marshall said a lively, exciting performance is on tap for each ticketholder, and the band promises not to disappoint. “We were just playing last night, and we decided we needed some new songs in the show to keep people on their toes,” he said. “We have lots of songs ready, just getting them ready for the stage is next.”

Does your dog or cat have breath that could stop a freight train (or make Dr. Lonnie Davis’ mustache twitch)? So, what’s the big deal? Well first, when it gets to the stage of horrible breath, veterinarians at Troy Animal Hospital usually find infected gums, sometimes abscessed teeth, broken teeth and red, swollen gums. Will your pet tell you that he’s in trouble and having pain? No, because he just wants to please you, and so he ignores the discomfort. If your pet has bad breath, be sure to get in for your pet’s free dental exam. February is Dental Special Month, and if your pet needs his teeth cleaned or dental work extractions, now is the time. Generally if your pet is 3 years or older
and never had its teeth cleaned, come in for your free dental exam and then, if needed, get those teeth cleaned before your pet starts to have infection and pain. Also, if it’s been one year or longer since your pet’s last teeth cleaning, again get that free dental exam. It is far better to clean your pet’s teeth when it’s just early tartar build-up rather than when extractions are needed. Finally, the bacteria in the infected gums can spread throughout the pet’s body can cause heart valve infections, plus kidney and liver disease. Get that free dental exam now and take advantage of the February Dental Special at Troy Animal Hospital office if your pet needs dental work. Here’s hoping your pet’s teeth and gums check out with flying colors, and he PROVIDED PHOTO Dr. Lonnie Davis and Sophie remind all pet owners to won’t need to be seen for a dental exam for another year. bring their furry friends in for a dental exam.

Hayner poetry series to feature Petreman poets. He has published three books on the Chilean short story and numerous articles on Latin American Literature. In 2011, Petreman published a bilingual edition of “Candlelight In Quintero/Luz De Vela En Quintero” (Dos Madres Press). Petreman has given readings at a number of universities and colleges, at many bookstores and at cultural and community centers. He has coordinated 12 years of poetry readings for the Hayner Center, bringing many renowned, published poets to the Troy community to share their works in their own voices.
The second reading in the Hayner Poetry Series will take place March 28 and feature Gerry Grubbs poet laureate of the Olympic Garage in Cincinnati. In conjunction with the series, the Hayner Center is currently accepting submissions of original poetry for its third annual Poetry Competition, sponsored by Friends of Hayner. This year the contestants will have the option to have their poems considered for inclusion in a book of poetry published by the Hayner Center. Aspiring poets of all ages are invited to participate in the contest. Faculty members from
Wright State University will review the poems. Winners will be awarded cash prizes and be invited to read or have their poetry read at the final poetry reading on April 11. Petreman will be the master of ceremonies and guest reader. Complete details
of the competition are posted on the Hayner website, www.troyhayner.org. The deadline for entries is March 15. Additional information about this free event, and all the events offered by the Center, is available at www.troyhayner.org.

Bring to a boil, lower to a simmer, and cook, covered for half an hour, and uncovered for another half hour, or until the liquid thickens. Remove bay leaf. Adjust seasonings, adding salt and pepper to taste. Serve over rice.

started feeling better. She lost weight, her stomach issues went away and her tremors stopped. The best part is how wonderful she looks and how healthy she feels! She is now almost 100 percent gluten free. While visiting, she was so pleased that many of our local restaurants cater to folks that have glutenfree issues. “So many choices,” she said, “This is wonderful!” Amy traded stories with my daughter Jill, who has had the same stomach issues, and Jill decided to try a smaller version of Amy’s health plan. Within weeks, her stomach issues went away and she also has lost 52 pounds. Am I now a believer? I am. Gluten is found in products that contain wheat, rye and barley, and if you choose to try to cut back on these products, always consult with a physician first. There are now so many choices in the grocery stores, and delicious recipes to try. I think gluten-free just may be here to stay. The following terms represent the most commonly used Latin terms for wheat, barely and rye. If you see any of these, the product contains gluten: triticun vulgare (wheat); triticale (cross between wheat and rye); hordeum vulgare (barely); secale cereale (rye); and triticum spelta (spelt, a form of wheat). Happy cooking! Email me at dwolfe@civitasmedia.com. Asparagus Frittata 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

For the last couple of years, I have been hearing about gluten-free diets, a healthier way of eating. Not sure that I ever agreed with it, but I always keep it open to conversation. In 2010, the global market for gluten-free products was worth $2.5 billion, and as they expected, it is still growing. Recently, my niece Amy came for a visit from California. For years, she had been very ill and had many tests, scans and MRIs with no conclusion as what was making her so sick. She read an article on glutenfree diets and decided that she would at least give it a try. Almost instantly, she
