Holiday Classic shakes things up Girls teams invited to play in annual basketball tournament PIQUA — Now in its fifth year, the Buckeye Insurance Group Basketball Holiday Classic is nearly doubling the number of games in the three-day tournament by adding brackets for the junior varsity and varsity girls teams from the four participating schools, all while keeping the ticket prices the same as a single high school game. Basketball teams from Russia, Lehman Catholic, Piqua and Covington schools will face off in the tournament for the chance to house the traveling trophy until next year’s games. The same four districts have always competed in the Holiday Classic, but until now, it has been all about the boys. “I was looking for a little bit of a twist to change things up a bit, so I had the idea to add the girls teams,” said David Palmer,

Mainstreet Piqua offers new collectibles the project by Piqua Paper Box Company. The cost per ornament is $12. “The Piqua Paper Box Company appreciates the opportunity to be a part of this great project,” said Lauren Gleason. “We are very pleased with the way our ornament turned out and are honored to be a part in representing the people of Piqua who have contributed to our continuing operation since 1908. After 104 years, we are still proud to be in Piqua, Ohio.” The idea for the collectible ornament came from former downtown Piqua merchant Doug Stilwell. A new ornament featuring a different item made in Piqua is produced each year. It is the goal of Mainstreet Piqua to feature items made by both historical business, as well as those still present in the community. Companies that have

Comedian, Globetrotters coming up at Nutter Center is, watch Bubba J rise from the dead, meet Peanut’s alter ego, The Purple Avenger of the Night, and his spicy sidekick, and witness Achmed literally dressed to kill in an outfit that would terrify the most terrifying terrorist. The phenomenal international success of Dunham and his cohorts has been driven by his Comedy Central specials, which set global records for both ratings and sales. Last September, Dunham’s fourth Comedy Central TV special, “Controlled Chaos,” premiered to a staggering 8.3 million viewers overall, making it the most-viewed cable show that night. The global TV event enjoyed a never-before simultaneous same day worldwide debut in a dozen countries. Dunham continued to break ratings records at the end of 2011, when the Bio Channel’s premiere of “Jeff Dunham: Birth of a Dummy” became the network’s top-rated telecast ever. No wonder The New York Times magazine declared Dunham “the most successful comedian working in America.” Dunham was recently named Pollstar’s No. 1 Comedy Tour in North America for three years running, as well as its Top Worldwide Tour for the third year in a row. In addition, Dunham’s undeniable talent placed him on

end of the movie and it is snowing, and they are singing “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas …” it makes me want to tear up just thinking about it. I’m over the moon thrilled that my precious mom will be doing something different this year for Christmas. She is taking a cruise with my sister and her family. For an 86year-old who has never been out of her element for Christmas, this is going to be different and exciting for her, especially since she is deathly afraid of water. She was involved in a near-drowning episode when she was a little girl and has been afraid since. Growing up on the Ohio River, and always on it in our houseboat, she never showed fear to us. She said she never wanted us to be afraid of the water. At the age of 2, I would just go over the side of the boat with no fear. Oh yeah, that little trick landed me in a harness tied to the steering column of the boat for years. The other day, she told me that she was getting a little nervous. I don’t want her to be afraid. I guess that is the mother in me, so now I am nervous for her. What goes around will truly come back to you. I want her to be tied to my sister the whole trip. Please don’t loose her or let her go over the railing! I know once she feels the warm sun on her face, she will be just fine. This Christmas, we will be spending it on my son’s farm with our immediate family. We will be loud and silly, eat way to much, but

The holiday season is here … already! It is now just a few days before Christmas, and I have to say I’m so excited. Not for myself, but for my family and friends. You see, I think this year, for the first time ever, I got gifts for them that are not expected. That is the best gift ever for a gift giver, right? I have wrapped, baked and now I’m ready to just sit back with a big cup of Starbucks and enjoy the holiday season. I have to say though, we could use a little snow as a backdrop, just like my favorite movie “White Christmas” when they open the big doors at the
