CHOICE Engineering’s somewhat “eccentric” culture, the company deploys “Choice Mindsets,” a biweekly email/blog. Off – the-wall, ridiculous quotes and photos are taken from the daily working lives of the engineers, surveyors, and support staff and are “highlighted” in the blog, giving everyone at and working with the company an opportunity to laugh together. “Choice Mindsets” can be found online at http://choiceonemindsets.blogspot.com/. Choice One Engineering operates offices in Sidney and Loveland. This past year, Choice One Engineering celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Loveland office. President Tony Schroeder described why it was important to open an additional office. “With the opening of the Loveland office, we have expanded our client base to southwestern Ohio and we have been able to be more responsive to those in and around that area. Ferguson receives award from Honda Ferguson Construction Company celebrated 92 years of business in 2012. Ferg u s o n w a s started in 1920 by Murray Ferguson, and has Givens built a reputation for quality projects and superb customer service and satisfaction ever since. FCC strives to exceed expectations, contribute within the local community, and maintain a standard of safety and success in each and every development we undertake. President Martin L. “Mick” Given has submitted the following report: Major accomplishments for Ferguson included winning a 2011 regional construction Award of Excellence for the Jamestown Medical Center Renovation, which won a first place Eagle Award from the Ohio Valley Chapter of ABC (Associated Builders and Contractors). The project involved transforming an abandoned manufacturing facility, formerly known as Jamestown Plastic Molders, into a modern medical center for the local Jamestown community. Honda of America recognized Ferguson with their MRO Special Recognition Award in 2012. Steady rain caused the loss of 32 days during the construction of a

Ferguson and its subcontractors overcame the lost time and kept the project on schedule. Additionally, Butler Manufacturing awarded Ferguson with the Million Dollar Builder and High Performance Awards in 2011. Ferguson experienced stronger than anticipated activity within the private sector during the past year. Projects in the northern region were largely fueled by the commitment from Honda of America to manufacturing in North America. Ferguson continued work in all of the primary Honda plants, as well as conducting projects for first and second tier suppliers such as: Celina Aluminum Precision
Technologies, Kalida Manufacturing Inc., Hexa Americas Inc., Florida Production Engineering Inc., Midwest Express Inc. and AAP St. Marys Corporation. We continued working for private universities throughout 2012; contracting to design and build two residence halls for Cedarville University. As well, Phase I of a major renovation for the
Science Center at the University of Dayton was completed, while Phase II of the project will be finished in the summer of 2013. Ferguson’s substantial 2012 commercial projects include: the completion of a 37,500 square foot new facility for Brookside Laboratories, renovations for Buckeye Ford at London and Sidney locations, and renovations for Dan Hemm Auto Mall, Hayward Distributing, and Food Safety Net Services. In addition to our commercial portfolio, notable industrial projects throughout the last year involved: significant expansions at Grob Systems, Hydro Aluminum North America, Production Products Inc., B-K Design and Tool, Electro Controls, Midmark Corp., Select Industries and CIL Isotopes. Ferguson also experienced healthcare-related success, with completed projects for Premier Health Partners in the Dayton area. We have also added Mercy Health Partners, headquartered in Cincinnati, to our client list. A special project of
note in 2012 was the design and construction of the headquarters and data center for DataYard. The company is one of the largest stateof-the-art data centers that provides dependable internet access, server co-location, and scalable cloud computing infrastructure to its clients. Throughout the course of the year, Ferguson still maintained a fiscally conservative plan and the overall projections were adjusted correctly to meet the economic conditions. Our sound performance in 2012 can be attributed to
all of our dedicated and talented personnel, including the entire office staff and our field labor crews. Ferguson’s success is a team effort, with our dedicated and experienced personnel working smart every day. As the economy still recovers, the commercial construction and private industries forecasts show good, yet slow growth throughout 2013. We continue to strategize the best methods and markets to pursue. With the strengths and capabilities of our employees, Ferguson will continue to work stronger, leaner, and smarter.

Freytag honors key members of firm who passed away in 2012 emplified by a distinguished 62 year career before his retirement in the fall of 2009. His design talents are displayed in many buildings throughout Ohio including schools, churches, libraries, financial institutions and homes for family and friends. Many of his most notable and favorite projects can be seen by taking a drive through New Bremen Ohio and viewing several of the new and restored buildings that grace the village. Construction was completed on several building projects in 2012. The Otterbein-St. Marys Life Enrichment Center was a joint partnership between Otterbein and the YMCA open to community seniors. Amenities included a fully accessible warm water therapy pool, wellness center, exercise room, lounge, patio areas and library. Construction was also completed in 2012 on several projects for the Ohio HiPoint Career Center. We appreciate our longstanding business relationship with the school. Two school projects are nearing completion. Finishing touches are in process for a new K2 elementary school and 6-8 middle school in Bellefontaine. The 82,000-square-foot elementary building has a two-story plan and the
88,000-square-foot middle school has a three-story layout. A new K-8 facility is also nearing completion at Cory-Rawson Schools. The 58,000-square-foot building includes classrooms, library, dining, science labs and music. These buildings feature energy-efficient design with submission for LEED certification. Services for additional projects will continue in 2013 with both schools. Planning services were also provided for the New Bremen and Jackson Center Local Schools. Both districts are reviewing options for future facility improvements. We also assisted the Shelby County Educational Service Center on a successful grant application to study a Multi-purpose Training, Education and Business
Development Center. We greatly value our relationship with all the school districts we have had the pleasure to work with. Services were also provided to local governmental entities including Shelby County, Champaign County, the villages of New Bremen and Kalida. A new communication building is nearing completion for Shelby County emergency services. This was a cooperative effort including key individuals of County Engineer’s Office and Sheriff’s Office. Design services are also in process for improvements at the Champaign County Courthouse. We were pleased to work with several private sector clients. A restoration study was completed for St. Mary Catholic Parish in Chillicothe and the fund rais-
ing campaign will finish this spring. Master planning studies have begun with Fort Recovery Industries addressing facility needs for the company. Design services for facility improvements are also in process for Reliable Castings, MaMa Rosa’s and The Bridge Restau-
rant in Sidney. We are extremely grateful for our continued association with Crown Equipment Corporation spanning several decades. We thank all our valued clients, associates and friends and look forward to new challenges in 2013.

Growth and change for Westerheide Construction Company Westerheide Construction Company went through some exciting changes in 2012. As of September 2012 ownership was p a s s e d Westerheide from Tom Westerheide to his son Jay Westerheide. As part of the transition, the company name was
changed from Westerheide Developers Inc. back to Westerheide Construction Company which is the name the founder, Alfred (AJ) Westerheide, started with in 1952. “The name change more accurately describes the core of the business, which is ‘Construction’ rather than ‘Developers,’” said Jay Westerheide. “Although there are still development projects done by the Westerheide family,
they are done under new companies that have been formed for that specific purpose, like M&W Development and Fountainhead Investments, LLC.” His report continues: Since the beginning of Westerheide Construction Company, it has been known as a premier contractor for residential homes. And during the past 20 years they have also excelled in light commercial projects like professional of-
fices, medical buildings and financial institutes. Today the company has grown and expanded its services into industrial and government markets as well. They have taken on larger projects and acquired a pre-engineered metal building supplier to help service these markets. In fact due to the sluggish residential market, 80 percent of WCC’s sales are coming from either new construction or renovations in the commercial,
industrial, institutional and government markets. Some of the customers served in 2012 were Auglaize County Millwork for Courthouse Renovation, Parkway Schools - Stadium Building, Mercer County ESC, Logan County Fairgrounds, Emerson Climate Technologies, Wilson Memorial Hospital, Piqua High School and Perry Township. Westerheide Construction looks to continue its growth in
commercial, industrial, institutional and government work as well as maintaining its reputation as a premier residential contractor. WCC anticipates the upcoming year to be much like the past few years. Work will be scarce and the competition fierce. But with the ability to bid all types of construction projects Westerheide Construction is optimistic that it can remain a stable company with modest growth.

state of Ohio as well as eastern Indiana. The majority of their projects are located between Findlay, Dayton, and Columbus corridor. The second generation Andy and Mike Cotterman acquired full ownership in 2009 from Max R. Cotterman, their father and founder. The company
has continued substantial growth since the transaction. “We continue to operate under the core principles Max practiced. I believe this directly impacts our quality level of installations, which has lead to our success in the roofing industry. In addition to that, the hard work and dedication of the individual team members culminates, creating a winning recipe,” said Mike Cotterman. In 2012 Cotterman & Company received the most prestigious recognition in the commercial roofing industry. See COTTERMAN/Page 12

Carlisle Syntec, the leading manufacturer of single-ply roofing materials, elected Cotterman to the Perfection Council. Only the top 15 contractors in North America, determined by historical installation quality metrics, were given this recognition. Cotterman also reached the 750 Perfect 10 Hall of Fame Status with Carlisle. Out of 2,700 authorized applicators, only 43 have reached this achievement. Duro-Last Roofing recognized Cotterman’s achievements with the JRB Award, which is based on volume and quality of installations. They also announced Cotterman installed the most DuroLast Roofing material in the state of Ohio again in 2012. “Looking forward into this year, we believe the trend of renovating and retrofitting existing buildings will continue to grow and the new construction projects will remain relatively moderate similar to 2012. This enables us to offer cost effective energy savings roofing solutions for businesses looking to remain in their current facilities,” said Andy Cotterman Cotterman & Company is eager to earn the opportunity on your next roofing project and add you to the list of satisfied customers.

Air Handling has a big year The year 2012 was a big one for Air Handling Equipment reported K u r t Barhorst, president. His report follows: T h e Barhorst y e a r started off with a change in leadership when Doug Barhorst sold his ownership to his son Kurt Barhorst. Doug purchased Air Handling in 1989 from Bruce Dunaway. Under Doug’s leadership the company has grown in all areas including employees from three to 22. Doug’s new role at Air Handling is business development manager where he will investigate potential future opportunities for Air Handling. The year was a record one in sales for Air Handling. The growth was experienced in all four areas of the company including equipment sales, rentals, parts, and service. The equipment sales this year were greatly influenced by the recent Honda growth and the food industry. Aaron Lacy, celebrating his 10th year with the company, continues to lead the sales force. Lynette Caulfield is the parts manager where her commitment to customer service and
attention to detail created a loyal customer base in 2012. She had a very successful year with increased total sales and increased profitability. Jon Freistuhler led the service department for his 18th year. This department saw growth in service calls and total revenue in 2012. Over the past 18 months, this department has increased its focus on reliability management to assist our customers in their predictive mainte-
nance needs. The services offered include such things as thermal imaging, vibration analysis, laser alignment, ultrasonic leak detection, and a lubrication analysis program. This offering has strengthened our services and we look for continued growth in this area as our customers strive to reduce their down time. The year 2013 will be a year of growth for Air Handling. The growth will include a 2,700square-foot addition to
the facility, a new blower and vacuum product line, and the addition of an operations manager. Air Handling’s vision is to be recognized as the leading compressed air service provider in Western Ohio and these items will positions us well for that effor. The strength of our company is our employees and the culture we have to satisfy our customer’s needs. We recognize that the best way to say thank you is
through continued service after the sale, and
they can trust that this will be our every effort.

Continental Express Inc. continues strong growth

A CONTINENTAL Express truck is on the road, ready to make a delivery. its customers. This project also included an expansion to the Continental’s lot, which doubled the area available for truck parking. Continental’s fleet continued to grow in 2012. The company now operates 275 trucks and 650 trailers. In addition to the Sidney terminal, these tractors and trailers are also serviced from Continental’s locations in Gaffney, S.C.; Danville, Va., and Louisville, Ky. Continental’s employee numbers have grown to more than 400 drivers, shop and office personnel. Every employee has been trained to provide the high level of service that Continental’s customers have come to expect. Continental Express continues to remain focused on the needs of its customers in order to provide the best customer service available in the industry. The com-
pany’s dedication to service led to several customer awards this past year. The Dannon Company named Continental its carrier of the year for the third straight year. Additionally, Continental was named a Premier Transportation Partner for Tyson Foods and an Elite Fleet Manager for LXP/McDonalds. These awards represent the commitment that Continental places on providing each customer with the superior service they deserve. Safety is a primary concern for Continental. This focus on safety has led Continental to make an additional investment in its fleet in 2012: Mobileye collision warning systems. This new technology alerts the driver if his or her truck gets too close to a vehicle in front of him or her or if the truck crosses the lane line without using a turn signal. This investment will help reduce ac-
cidents by alerting drivers of potential dangerous situations as well as unsafe driving habits. Continental Express has also taken advantage of the newest technology available in the transportation industry. In 2012 it continued to install the newest trailer satellite technology into its existing fleet. This technology not only provides with a constant GPS location of the trailer, but also allows dispatch to monitor and control temperature settings from the office. The same system allows visibility of fuel levels and allows Continental to set up GPS “fences,” which provide instant notice of when trailers arrive at a customer and are docked. In all, Continental can monitor each aspect of the trailer and refrigeration unit and control the entire environment from the office. I would like to thank all of our dedicated employees. These hard working men and women, along with our loyal customers, make Continental Express what it is today. 2012 was a year of challenges and changes, but regardless of the changing environment, we were able to adapt and grow. We are looking to continue our strong growth pattern in 2013 and are excited to see what the
future holds for Continental Express. Employment opportunities, rates, and general

Continental Express Inc. places its emphasis on three golden rules: S a f e t y, Service and Communicat i o n . Following t h e s e rules has Goetmoeller allowed Continental Express to remain focused on its customers and has allowed the company to continue to grow in 2012. Continental’s 28th year in business under the leadership of Russell L. Gottemoeller accomplished record numbers in both load count and sales. By keeping the customer’s satisfaction in mind, Continental Express was able to carry a record of 81,000 loads in 2012, which resulted in revenues increasing 8 percent from 2011. Continental credits this growth to both an expanding customer base and the company’s ability to provide its existing customers with additional services. His report continues: Continental’s growth has led to the opening of a new 12,000-square-foot facility at its Sidney terminal. This new facility will enable Continental to offer warehousing as a value-added feature for

Elite Enclosure experiences strong growth in 2012 During 2012 Elite Enclosure Co. LLC continued to experience strong growth. Now into its 18th year of operation, the company has worked hard to meet the needs of its customers; primarily the automotive and trucking sectors, as well as others. According to Doug Pottorf, company president, “2012 was a very good year for us and I’m very optimistic about 2013 as well.” His report continues: The year 2012 was a big challenge to complete our physical relocation from Fort Loramie to Sidney; however, we managed to complete it without any major disruptions for our customers. By adding approximately 16,000
square feet of floor space, we now have the capacity for additional work. The year of 2012 at Holloway was a year of investment. In July, Holloway released the largest number of new styles in company history. Holloway boldly debuted 68 new items. The items range from performance polo’s, waterproof breathable rainwear, basketball uniforms, and knit
beanies. The new styles have sold well and we look forward to a full year of sales with all these styles consistently in stock. Capital investments were also made in 2012. Holloway invested heavily in its distribution center. The sizable investment will allow a larger amount of inventory to be efficiently distributed. The strategic move gave owners the opportunity to consolidate sister company High Five Sportswear out of Seattle, Washington into the Sidney operation. The moving of High Five’s Seattle distribution is great for the
local economy. The move has already increased the number of local employees and is helping High Five to better control costs. As an Ohio based business for more than 60 years, Holloway could not operate without loyal employees. The company values their contributions and continues to invest in programs to increase job satisfaction, wellness, and financial planning. Holloway is forecasting strong growth in 2013. Dickman Supply celebrates 60 years Dickman Supply has grown from a small industrial mill supp l y house, founded in 1953, into a recognized national leader in Borchers the distribution of industrial and electrical supplies from three locations in Sidney, Greenville, and Celina. The 60th anniversary celebration for Dickman Supply began a little early, with 2012 ending as the company’s best overall year in its history. “Looking back over the past 60 years from the company’s founding in Sidney as Dickman Industrial by Ruben Dickman in 1953, Dickman Supply realized modest growth as a local industrial tools, belts and abrasives supplier in Southwest Ohio and Eastern Indiana,” said Vice President Doug Borchers. “Recognizing a need in the market, Dickman expanded the product and service offering to include electrical products in 1967, which led to building
custom assemblies 10 years later. This addition truly set the company apart from the competition of the day and began the growth curve that continues today.” His report continues: In 1986, I purchased Dickman Supply and its sister company Lynch Supply in Union City, and in just a few short years incorporated all divisions under the name Dickman Supply Inc. For the next 10 years, the company’s growth continued with the construction of a new 40,000 square-foot headquarters in Sidney in 1991, the addition of wire harness assemblies, and the 1996 move from Union City to Greenville. By 2001, it was apparent that Dickman Supply was quickly outgrowing its existing physical space, and its north market area had expanded. A new satellite was constructed in Celina, and the Custom Control and Wire Harness Assembly Divisions were separated from Dickman Supply, becom-

Record-breaking year for FDL Automation 2012 was best in company’s history with 2012 numbers. FDL will move into their new, expanded headquarters at the corner of Stolle Avenue and Ross Street in Sidney in late March. The 24,000-square-foot facility will provide more than 25 percent of additional space over the company’s present location on Vandemark Road. Staffing levels are expected to remain the same for 2013; however, the building was designed for employee growth. The building site also includes additional land for future expansion. Features of the new building include an extensive customer center that incorporates a large, state-of-the-art training and education center, au-
tomation lab, and an expansive counter sales and product display showroom. Customer training continues to be an important aspect of the total services offered by FDL, and this new training area will enable the company to expand its open enrollment program with supplier Rockwell Automation. Through this program, customers from not only the FDL sales region, but all across the country, will attend specialized, hands-on training at FDL. The building will incorporate the latest design in energy efficient LED lighting and controls — 70 percent of the office space will feature this technology, using With
one-fourth the amount of energy of traditional fluorescent and incandescent lighting. The warehouse will be arranged for maximum efficiency, and will incorporate the latest in energy saving lighting technologies. “We took the time to evaluate every aspect of our operational flow and facility requirements in an effort to build in as many efficiencies as we could in the new building,” said Rick Brooks, company executive vicepresident. In a continued commitment to the community, FDL contributed extensively to various programs and causes in 2012, including reaching See FDL/Page 28

The year 2012 proved to be the best ever for revenue in FDL Automation & Supply Co.’s 31 years of operation. This surpasses the previous recordbreaking year set in 2011. FDL Automation & Supply is a locally-owned, fullservice electrical distributor serving west central Ohio, selling electrical equipment to the contractor, original equipment manufacturer, and the industrial market. Several factors contributed to FDL’s continued growth, including a substantial increase in business from original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers. As demand for new equipment tracked upward, sales were pushed to a record high. OEM’s are seeing their customers investing in new machinery and technology, and FDL is able to provide them with some of the most advanced automation products available. Activity also remained steady with industrial clients, who, in many cases were bringing new machinery online as production requirements rose. FDL executives see that momentum continuing in 2013. “FDL poised itself during the economic downturn a few years ago to prepare for the growth we have experienced the past two years,” said Gary Heitmeyer, FDL president. His report continues: Sales figures are expected to remain steady

Cleveland. We also did 491,000 pounds of steel I-Beams (13 semi loads) for a major bridge widening project on I270 in Columbus, 265,000 pounds of steel I-Beams (seven semi loads) for Livingston Avenue in Franklin County, along with 839,000 pounds of steel I-Beams (21 semi loads) for a major overhaul of U.S. Route 50 through Cincinnati. Several projects that we will be fabricating this year will be 45 plate girders (700,000 pounds for Pennsylvania Turnpike), 46 plate girders (740,250 pounds for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation) After projects are fabricated at Kard, we are responsible to truck these projects to the job-
site. We handle all aspects of the trucking using our own trucks and trailers. We have over-length stretch loads leaving our facility all the time with some of the loads, traveling down the road at 131feet in length. Kard’s success through the past years has been due to our employees in taking pride in the projects that we’ve fabricated here at Kard. Throughout the year 2012, we averaged 50 to 55 hours per week. We expect to work at least the same or more in 2013. “Looking ahead into 2013, we continue to face some of the same challenges we dealt with in 2012,” said Jeff Phlipot, CEO. “The economy, new engine emission issues, and the technician shortage, just to name a few. At Kirk NationaLease, we look at these as challenges to becoming a better service provider for our customers.” His report continues: With the continuing changes with the engine emission requirements, and the shortage of technicians, we took a hard look at our internal training program for our technicians. We implemented two new programs: a Maintenance Advisory Board and Train the Trainer program. First, our Advisory Board is made up of four of our 28 shop managers. A manager on the board will rotate off every quarter and a new manager will come on. The board will be challenged to look at the new technology, shop performances, recruiting and retaining technicians, training technicians, and our maintenance procedures. Train the Trainer program. At Kirk, we have our own corporate trainer. With the everchanging technology today, it is tough just keeping the trainer up with the current technology. As the physical space grew, so too, did the ability to address areas of inefficiency. Just as our building expansion began, Jeff Prenger joined the Electro Controls team as the director of business and engineering, and has been instrumental in reorganizing the facility’s workflow for higher efficiency and greater production potential. The proprietary software systems used to maintain inventory and manage projects is now wireless with the addi-
tion of iPad applications, allowing employees greater and faster access to information about each project. In keeping with Electro Controls’ promise of 100 percent inspection, the Quality Assurance Department also grew in space and equipment. information for our customers about Electro Controls’ capabilities is also on the list of enhancements, as many customers attending last fall’s expansion Open House expressed surprise at finding a number of things that Electro Controls could do to help increase productivity in their own company’s production process. Electro Controls team members are currently contributing to a weekly blog as the first step to this improved communication process.
As always, the focus in 2013 will be on innovation and our customers’ satisfaction with our products and services. We will reach beyond expectations to find creative ways to assist our partners in their engineering design, control panel, and wire harness needs. In 2012 Electro Controls grew their partnerships with numerous customers in high volume assemblies, custom controls, and also developed a field integration department to assist customers with on-site automated machinery connections and troubleshooting. The growth across all departments resulted in the need for more space. As 2012 began, Electro Controls broke ground on a facility expansion adding more than 12,000 square feet of manufacturing

Electro Controls had an exciting 2012 with a large expansion, a new business dir e c t o r, and the formation a Field Integration division. “We’re Geise fortunate to report that all of this occurred during our company’s highest revenue year in history,” said President Tim Geise. “As an ISO2001:2008 certified and UL Listed Panel Shop, quality and customer satisfaction remain our number one priority at all times.” His report continues: The standards of excellence in production and quality that Electro Controls employees embody every day have helped lead us to become one of the electrical automation and assembly business’ premier players. Customers looking to increase productivity on their own production floor find that partnering with Electro Controls for wire assemblies made on their state-of-the-art wire machinery allows for much higher production output and quality than their current manual wiring processes. Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Exposition brought 50,000 global contractors, wholesalers and retailers to Dallas to view Emerson’s latest technologies on display. Cathy Billing, Marketing Communications manager, has submitted the following report: At the expo, Emerson displayed compressors for refrigeration and air conditioning manufactured in Sidney, as well as a special display featuring the eight painted Copeland Scroll™ compressors that were part of the company’s celebration of its 100 million scroll compressor milestone and the 25th anniversary of the technology. In 2012, Emerson Climate Technologies cele-
brated significant milestones for both the company and the industry. In June, Emerson produced its 100 millionth Copeland Scroll compressor with celebrations at its eight global manufacturing facilities, including Sidney. In November, Emerson held a special event in Sidney to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the development of scroll compressor technology, which included former Emerson and Copeland leadership and a proclamation by Sidney’s mayor. As part of its celebration, Emerson held a contest among the eight manufacturing facilities to turn a compressor into art. The compressors were featured in online voting on Facebook, generating more than 135,000 votes and comments in four languages. The Sidney compressor won third place and local plant leadership received money to donate to the Upper Valley Career Center HVACR pro-

Shaffer ventures into new business Equipment purchases over the past several years and the addition of an in-house powder coat system has allowed Shaffer Metal Fab Inc. to change their production practices to accommodate new and additional market requirements. “The additional equipment helped to make 2012 a successful year and helped to continue the growth that Shaffer has enjoyed during the past three years,” said Mike Shaffer, chief executive officer. His report continues: Shaffer recently purchased equipment that will provide the opportunity for the company to enter into the field of custom precision machining. Turning, boring, drilling, milling, broaching, tapping and

pleted the exposed overhaul to our stations, work cells and overall positioning. We are proud to announce the promotion of Nichole Ellis to operations manager in July. Nichole has worked at LaserFab for six years, knows every detail of the operation, and has been making it happen from behind the scenes for years. Having recently completed her Bachelor’s Degree in

Sidney Tool & Die has steady year of growth throughout the year. Sidney Tool & Die Inc. provides precision parts for the aerospace industry, tooling and assembly equipment for the residential entrance door and garage door industry, designing and building specialty machines for rubber and plastic product manufacturers, and machining specialty parts for a variety of industries. The company utilizes approximately 123,000 square feet of floor space within four buildings located on Campbell Road. The company continues its requirement to maintain rigorous quality standards by demonstrating compliance with the ISO9001, and AS9100 industry standards certification registrar audits. We were pleased to be deemed compliant as these certifications denote our ongoing commitment to execute and deliver continuous improvement within our organization. The constant pursuits for becoming a better employee and a better organization are the types of attributes needed, as we plan for future opportunities. The planning for capital improvements
provided for several opportunities to acquire additional equipment in 2012. They included: Surface Grinder, with a 30-inch by 80-inch envelope size, a Sheffield RS150 Coordinate Measuring Machine 80 by 48 by 40 capacity, an Oasis Corex2 Inspection system for validating dimensions on precision aerospace parts, an Okuma M560V vertical machining center, an Okuma LB3000 Turning Center with sub spindle and live tooling, and a Programmable Milling Center for Tool Room machining. Western Ohio Cut Stone sees increase in sales in 2012 The year 2012 proved to be one of continued progress for Western Ohio C u t Stone, quarrier and fabricator of natural s t o n e Milligan building and landscape products. Sales were up in 2012 over 2011 by a significant amount, demonstrating continued strengthening in our residential and com-
mercial building markets. “Projects where our products were installed in 2012 included diverse destinations: a church restoration in Cleveland, a prison addition in Mansfield, a bridge reconstruction in Cincinnati, a college addition in Pennsylvania to name a few,” said President Tom Milligan. “Our natural stone products continue to have wide appeal, providing quality, durability, beauty and value to our customers.” His report continues:
Our natural thin stone product lines also continue to show promise. Our sales of Natural Stone Veneers International products (several of whose lines come from our quarries) remain steady. The ease of installation that natural stone thin veneer provides coupled with the dwindling number of master stone masons installing full depth stone products, will continue to fuel the growth of natural stone thin veneer products in the future we believe. Our local stone yard
at 1542 Riverside Drive in Sidney continues to transform to become a user friendly destination for retail customers seeking to buy all of our natural stone products locally. We continue to carry and add to our full line of gravel, crushed stone, natural landscape stone and natural full depth and thin veneer building stone products for the buying public. As our sales have
strengthened, we have added workforce in the production area. All of our locations, Flat Rock, Bloomville, Sidney and Ludlow Falls have seen workforce additions. Additionally, we have invested in equipment upgrades and in continued safety training in our ongoing effort to instill safe and productive work practices into our operations. In the midst of the encouraging signs of
sales growth in our business, we remain vigilant. Housing, while coming back in some areas, remains very weak in others. Private construction markets are still much less robust than they were in 2006 and 2007. We will continue to seek opportunities that make sense and grow our leadership position as a high quality and versatile producer and See WESTERN/Page 35

Strong Rebound Year for Shelby County and Emerson Wagner Realty Co., Inc. The housing market for Shelby County showed a strong recovery for most housing price levels in 2012. Interest rates remained at all time lows all year, while the availability of loans for our clients increased. “It is still important for buyers to be patient and get all the paperwork to your lenders in a timely manner”, said Tom Middleton, Broker of Emerson Wagner Realty. His report continues: The local housing market made great strides in working through the excess in supply in our market and prices actually started to increase through the year. Wagner Realty still remains the top real estate office for Shelby County, now for more than 40 years. We have the most agents, most sales and most important the highest customer satisfaction. Listing a house is only the start of our services. We pride ourselves on proper marketing, lots of advertising and the knowledge to represent our client to produce the outcome they expect. Our realtors know you have to spend money on advertising and marketing to sell a home and in a slow market that sometimes is hard to do. In 2012 we added a new marketing tool which has been a big success. Now when a prospective buyer drives by one of our listings, they will see a sign with a text # to call to get pictures, price and all the information on this home right on their cell phone. Honda believes in ‘Power of Dreams’ Honda, with an engine plant at Anna, says one very simple statement defines the company: “We believe in the Power of Dreams.” Honda says it has
learned over time that dreams do not have boundaries, and Honda does not want boundaries in its thinking. For 30 years, this spirit has allowed our
highly skilled Ohio associates to set new standards for quality and excellence in the development and manufacturing of top-quality Honda and Acura automobiles.
Their dreams and visions inspire the company to continuously improve its industryleading performance, the quality of its products and the exceptional safety and environmental standards of its operations.
Associates at the Ohio facilities in 2012 continued developing and producing industry-leading products and technologies with the introduction of an all-new Acura RDX, an all-new Honda Accord and an entirely new “Earth Dreams
Technology” powertrain lineup. Honda has two automotive production powerhouses in Ohio—the Marysville Auto Plant, located in Union County, and Logan County’s East Liberty Auto Plant. See HONDA/Page 39

From Page 38 vehicle and the all-new 2013 Acura RDX luxury SUV. Today, the Anna Engine Plant, Honda’s largest engine plant in the world, produces fuelefficient V6 and fourcylinder automobile engines for a wide variety of Honda and Acura passenger cars and light trucks. The plant’s annual production capacity of 1.18 million engines means it produces enough engines to stretch, end-to-end, from Cincinnati to Cleveland and back again. The Anna plant also manufactures driveshafts, crankshafts, camshafts and cylinder sleeves. Anna’s skilled associates and high-tech production facility will help lead Honda’s next generation of engine development with a set of technological powertrain advancements called ‘Earth Dreams Technology’. These advancements are part of Honda’s goal to replace its entire powertrain lineup over the next three years and to be the fuel-efficiency leader in every segment. This includes new Earth Dreams four-cylinder and V6 engines for the
upcoming 2013 Accord models. The all-new, 2-4liter direct-injection, four-cylinder engine for the new Accord will be joined with Honda’s newly developed Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) for mid-size vehicles. Honda’s Transmission Mtg. of America, Inc near Russells Point, Ohio received a major facelift in 2012 to produce Honda’s next generation of Earth Dreams transmission technology—including Honda’s new CVT. Home to the production of sophisticated automatic gear-driven transmissions and CVTs, this plant also manufactures high-tech four-wheel drive systems for Honda and Acura models produced in North America, along with precision gears for its transmissions and four-wheel-drive systems. Honda R&D Americas Inc is responsible for creating advanced products and technologies from initial concept through the start of mass production. The associates at the Ohio Center—Honda’s largest R&D center out-
side Japan—are engaged in “complete product creation” of all-new products fore Honda and Acura customers. More than 1,300 associates at Honda’s expansive R&D center near Raymond, Ohio, develop new products by engaging in market and technology research, engineering design, prototype fabrication and testing, local parts procurement, and support for the start of mass production. Engineers at the Ohio Center are also developing cutting-edge technologies that support Honda’s leadership in fuel efficiency and product safety. Honda’s R&D centers have formed partnerships with universities and colleges to advance fundamental research in a full spectrum of disciplines for their uses in future products. For example, through the Mobility Innovation Exchange (MIX) programs, scientists and engineers at Honda R&D collaborate with faculty and students at The Ohio State University on cutting-edge research. The research focuses
on making practical advancements to Honda and Acura products while also advancing OSU’s educational mission. Located in Columbus, Honda Research Institute USA Inc. conducts novel material-science research that focuses on new uses of nano-materials as catalysts, and the development of materials that enhance energy conversion and energy storage. This research opens new possibilities for miniaturization and energy efficiency, including much more powerful and compact computers, solar cells and fuel cells, as well as new composite materials for automobiles and planes. Honda’s environmental vision calls for realizing freedom of mobility where people can enjoy life in a sustainable society. Today, Honda’s Ohio facilities are working to carry out the company’s passion for advancements in environmental stewardship. Honda’s commitment to reducing CO2 emissions hinges on improving energy efficiency of our products and reducing the impact of its op-

erations in Ohio and globally. To this end, Honda has set a target to globally reduce CO2 emissions from its automobiles and other products by 30 percent by the year 2020. Honda reuses and recycles more than 95 percent of all waste materials from its manufacturing operations and in 2011, Honda achieved its goal to eliminate nearly all waste going to local landfills. Honda’s plants in Ohio are implementing advanced manufacturing technologies to build the next generation of passenger cars and light trucks, as well as the engines and transmissions that power them. From late 2010 to early 2012, Honda has announced more than $500 million in investments to streamline operations and innovate manufacturing at its four Ohio plants. With these investments, and guided by the expertise and visions of its Ohio associates, Honda will continue to create the revolutionary products that meet the needs of its customers and society.

Together these two manufacturing giants have the annual capacity to produce nearly 700,000 passenger cars and light truck models on their three flexible manufacturing lines. Since 1982, the two plants have produced nearly 15 million vehicles in the state of Ohio. In addition, all three auto production lines in Ohio finished among the top five assemble lines for quality in all of North and South America in the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study. Last year the Marysville plant celebrated 30 years of auto production by producing the all-new ninth generation Honda Accord. This iconic leader in the mid-sized passenger car segment has been a production at the plant since 1982. Associates at the Marysville plant also exclusively produce the Acura TL luxury sedan. On its single line, associates at the East Liberty Auto Plant build the segment-leading Honda CR-V compact sport-utility vehicle (SUV), the sophisticated Honda Crossover utility
