North Carolina Traffic Safety Course for Point Reduction and Insurance Reduction? North Carolina residents may take one of two different traffic safety course- a 4-hour course and an 8-hour course. The 4-hour course is specifically for residents of Guilford and Wake counties, while the 8-hour course is for all other North Carolina residents. Court DMV Requirement If you accumulate 7 or more points as a result of traffic violations, you may be required to complete a traffic safety course by the DMV.
