2011 SPEAKERS AT YOUR CONFERENCE Reg Dingley, Manager, Funded Programs, Transport Canada. Born and raised in Fredericton, NB, Reg has worked in all three Maritime Provinces. Starting his career with a Regional Trust Company before establishing his own Property Appraisal and Consulting firm, Reg has been with the Federal Department of Transport for the past 30 years. His current responsibilities include managing delivery of national and regional funded programs such as; Confederation Bridge, ACAP, Labrador Coast Airstrips Restoration, Ferries and Confederation Bridge Policing. His additional responsibilities include property management and real property activities related to airports in Atlantic Canada. Bernadette MacNeil, Senior Programs Officer, Funded Programs, Transport Canada, Atlantic Region. Bernadette, known as Bernie to her friends and colleagues, started her career in the Federal Public Service in 1976 with the Department of National Defense in her hometown of Sydney, Nova Scotia. She later worked for five years with Labour Canada before moving to Moncton, N.B. with her family where she worked for Correctional Services before starting with Transport Canada in 1986. Bernie‟s held various positions at Transport Canada before moving to Funded Programs in 1998 where she is responsible for the delivery and administration of the Labrador Coast Airstrips Restoration Program and the Airports Capital Assistance Program. Craig Rock, GTAA, Manager, Energy Management. Craig began his career with the GTAA in 2002 in the building electrical department. A certified Electrician with over 20 years experience he has achieved his certification as both a Certified Energy Manager and a Certified Energy Auditor with the Association of Energy Engineers. In 2004 Craig was promoted to his current position as Manager, Energy Management, where he is responsible for both the effective use of electrical energy and the implementation of Green House Gas (GHG) reduction projects at Pearson Airport. His department has recently grown to include a full time energy electrician to assist in implementing energy efficiency projects. The program to date has resulted in cumulative offset savings exceeding $16,000,000. Rian G. Burger (NCARB, B.Arch, MAIBC, LEED® AP), Associate, Stantec Architecture Ltd. An Architect with more than twenty years experience, with the last six years being dedicated to airport terminal design. As a Project Architect for Stantec in Vancouver, he has been involved in renewable energy and multiple, complex capacity enhancement projects at the Vancouver International Airport. He is also the Project Architect for the 500,000 sqft, 18-gate, LEED-registered terminal expansion project for Edmonton International Airport, which will be one of the first LEED-certified terminal buildings in North America. Current projects also include planning studies for Toronto Pearson and Calgary International Airports. In 2007 his Stantec team won an award for the “Most Visionary Building” in the Cascadia Region Green Building Council‟s, Living Future Competition. Shawn F. Sutherland, A.A.E.is the Project Director for Airport Services, with EBA, a Tetra Tech Company. With more than 30 years of experience in airport management, operations, maintenance, and development, he has worked in all facets of airports including the direct management of six different airports in western and northern Canada since 1984. Mr. Sutherland served as a member of the Airports Group Board of Management in Ottawa, and was assigned the task of developing the National Airports Policy, approved by the Federal Cabinet in 1994. He was the negotiator of transfer agreements for 30 airports to territorial, municipal and regional governments or authorities in western and northern Canada. Mr. Sutherland has been an active member of the International Association of Airport Executives (IAAE) – Canada since being accredited in 1996 and presently serves as a member of the Board of Examiners, mentoring candidates as they pursue accreditation and reviewing candidates‟ accreditation papers. In 2005, the BC Aviation Council awarded him the Robert S. Day Trophy in recognition of contributions and leadership in the promotion of the Aviation Industry over his lifetime Cameron Nicolson AAE has been involved in tourism and transportation for 25 years. He progresses through many tourism roles in western Canada and around the world. Cameron started working for the Calgary Airport Authority in 2003. In his current role as Director, Safety Management Systems, Cameron‟s safety responsibilities include taking care of public, workplace, and construction safety programs. Training airport staff is an important part of training and part of Cameron‟s safety strategy because he sees inadequate training as a common cause of many incidents. The Calgary Airport Authority has “YYC School” which is their second generation on-line training program and the Airport is currently working on the launch of their third generation system.
2011 SPEAKERS AT YOUR CONFERENCE Francois Martel, Mr. Martel is a Director with LeighFisher. He holds a Bachelor of Science and an MBA (Marketing & Strategic Planning) from Laval University in Québec City, Canada. He joined the consulting firm LeighFisher (then Sypher Mueller) at the beginning of 2002 as an Associate Director after having accumulated over 18 years of experience in Airport Management at various levels. Before becoming a consultant, François held the position of Director of Planning & Marketing at Québec Jean-Lesage International Airport before being promoted Project Manager, Marketing for Aéroports de Montréal (ADM). With Sypher and then Jacobs Consultancy and LeighFisher, he has lead or has been on the respective retail and advertising planning teams for many national and international airports. He also recently performed a detailed study of the Canadian airports advertising market for a major airport advertising concessionaire (content provider). Franco Giampa is Vice President, Airports and SOC of Jazz Aviation LP. Franco‟s roots are with Air Ontario where he began his career in 1986 and was Director of Sales at the time of the consolidation. Franco has extensive experience in Tourism, Airline Customer Service, Business Development and Airport Ground Handling Logistics. He is a former board member of the London Chamber of Commerce, London Economic Development Board, Ontario Place, and Alliance of Canadian Travel Association. Franco holds a Degree in Travel & Tourism. He is a graduate of the Executive Business Program at Ivey School of Business, and is currently completing his degree in Political Science at University of Western Ontario. Ron Carter - Transport Canada - Ron has 40 years of experience in aviation. Beginning as a military helicopter pilot in the 1970‟s, he flew a number of rotary and fixed wing aircraft during a 21-year career in the air force, including a tour as a Team Coordinator for Canada‟s Snowbirds. In 2004, Ron was appointed to the new position of Chief of Standards, Aerodromes and Air Navigation. In his current capacity, he manages a staff responsible for the development and maintenance of regulations and standards governing aerodromes, airport zoning, land use in the vicinity of aerodromes, aircraft noise management, wildlife management, AIS, airspace, the marking and lighting of hazards to navigation, general operating and flight rules and air navigation services. Guy Henéault is the Program Manager of the Aerodrome Standards Division within the Aerodromes and Air Navigation Branch of Transport Canada. Guy has over 33 years of experience in aviation, which include 30 years as civil commercial pilot, and more than 21 years with Transport Canada as a Civil Aviation Inspector. He graduated form the “Centre de formation aéronautique du Québec” with a specialization diploma in Aeronautics. He holds a helicopter and fixed wing licenses with about 7000 hours of commercial flying experience. Currently he manages the development of legislation, regulations, standards, criteria, policies, procedures and guidance materials related to Aerodromes. Rick Duffy, is a Graduate of York University B.BA program. Rick's career path started in business software applications. Unsuspectingly and swiftly, Rick was steered into the transportation and parking industry. For the past 21 years, Rick has been helping customers to implement solutions to manage space and time…as it relates to parking access and revenue control systems that is! Presently, Rick is based in Toronto, as General Manager of WPS Canada Inc; a provider of parking systems solutions for airport sector customers from coast-to-coast. Brett Bain, Manager, Parking and Ground Transportation, Edmonton International Airport. Brett Bain is the Manager of Parking and Ground Transportation for the Edmonton International Airport and has been with the airport for three years. Edmonton boasts 10200 parking stalls across a wide variety of products including jetset which is the highest per capita number of stalls of any airport in Canada. Prior to commencing with Edmonton Airports, Brett designed and installed a wide variety of parking and access systems for an Edmonton based parking contractor. In addition to Parking Systems design, Brett was the Operations Manager for several years with Imperial Parking Limited in Edmonton and holds several Information Technology software certifications. jetSet Parking opened to the public in August of 2010. The 3300 stall property features a number of firsts for Canadian airport parking operations including Westjet airline check in at the facility and the first fully integrated Chauntry web reservation system in North America. 2011 SPEAKERS AT YOUR CONFERENCE David C. Hill, Senior Project Manager, National Practice Leader, Parking Solutions. As a skilled and top achieving parking and transportation professional, he has occupied senior management positions within the parking industry since 1986.He was the Director of Parking and Visitor Services at the University of Western Ontario (1990-2000), and the founding COO of the Winnipeg Parking Authority (2003-10); he has also led many projects in organizational redesign and technical upgrades, has worked in educational, medical, municipal and airport environments, and has served on many industry Boards and Committees. In addition to parking and transportation planning, David retains professional expertise in the business aspects of community based parking and urban mobility programs, and in developing organizational and business solutions to day to day operational challenges. David‟s services include parking and transportation sector supply and demand assessments, business and strategic planning, operational audits and performance development, facilities planning and operation, technologies and innovation, staff training and mentoring, and development of community resources and solutions to practical urban mobility challenges. A senior advisor and professional educational program coordinator for the World Parking Symposium and the International Parking Institute, he is a well known innovator and a strong community partnership builder. He has received several International Awards of Excellence from the International Downtown Association and the International Parking Institute. In 2010 David received the Chair‟s Award for Service to the Industry and was recognized as North American Parking Professional of the Year. He was also recognized with the Mayor‟s Award for his contribution to the City of Winnipeg. David has served with distinction as a planning and logistics specialist in the Royal Canadian Navy. Kevin McGarr, President and CEO, CATSA. Kevin holds a Master‟s Degree in Business Administration from the International Aviation Program at the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University. He has completed his Director‟s Education Program with the Institute of Corporate Directors. Mr. McGarr enjoyed a 26-year career with the Montreal Urban Community Police Service, where he distinguished himself in the investigation of organized crime activities. In recognition of his efforts , the Governor General awarded Mr. McGarr the Meritorious Service Medal in 1997. From 1996 to 2002, after , Mr. McGarr worked with a professional services firm, providing services for the detection and prevention of corporate and financial malfeasance. Mr. McGarr joined CATSA in January 2003 as the Director responsible for the development and implementation of a secure identification program enhanced by biometric technologies along with the development of a non-passenger security screening program to enhance airport access controls. In 2004, he was promoted to Vice-President, Risk and Quality and later became the VicePresident and Chief Technology Officer. In 2006, Mr. McGarr was promoted to Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer where he oversaw the development and implementation of the CATSA‟s corporate strategy. On November 5, 2008, CATSA‟s Board of Directors announced the appointment of Mr. McGarr to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Prior to his appointment, which was effective September 15, 2008, Mr. McGarr had served as interim President and Chief Executive Officer. Honourable Robert W.J. Ghiz was sworn in as the thirty-first Premier of Prince Edward Island on June 12, 2007. Mr. Ghiz was born January 21, 1974 in Charlottetown. After receiving his early education in Charlottetown area schools and graduating from Colonel Gray High School, he went on to study at Bishop‟s University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in Political Studies. Prior to entering the political arena, Mr. Ghiz worked as a Special Assistant to Prime Minister Jean Chretien, as well as Special Assistant to the Minister of Canadian Heritage. He was also employed in the private sector, having worked as the Manager of Government Affairs for the Bank of Nova Scotia in Ottawa. In April, 2003, Mr. Ghiz was chosen as the Leader of the Liberal Party of Prince Edward Island; subsequently in September of the same year he was elected to represent the people of District 13, Charlottetown-Brighton in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island. On May 28, 2007 Mr. Ghiz led his party to victory winning 23 of the 27 seats. Following a successful by-election on October 15, 2007, the Liberals now hold 24 seats. Premier Ghiz is married to Dr. Kate Ellis Ghiz, and together they are the proud parents of two daughters, Julia Elizabeth and Emma Christena. Justin Meyer is the Manager of Air Service Development with the Kansas City Aviation Department. In addition to recruiting airlines to Kansas City International Airport, Justin is also the driving force behind the airport's social media efforts. While not a true early adopter to social media, KCI has found a niche in the space over the last two years. The airport's efforts to engage social-savvy customers have been recognized by the Kansas City Star, the Boston Globe and top aviation bloggers. In July of 2010 Forbes ranked KCI as the Top Tweeting Airport in its peer group. With previous stops at Atlantic Coast, Vanguard and AirTran, Justin brings 14 years of aviation experience to the Department.
