What's new?...
Hello America!
Greetings from IAAS Mexico Dear IAASer, 2021 is reaching its end and, with that, it also marks the closure of an amazing year of activities we have delivered to IAASers from Mexico and many other countries. We invite you to take a look to the last newsletter that the IAAS Mexico 2021 national committee will be presenting to you. Alejandro will take you to the first edition of a very important event that each year will be organised by students of the UACh (Autonomous University Chapingo) in order to raise awareness regarding soil and natural resources in our country and , hopefully, IAAS will continue to have a spot in order to promote our values and activities. To close this month, we had the very first virtual tour of IAAS Mexico that, unlike any virtual conventional lecture, it became a live journey where the participants had the opportunity to learn and see the whole process of wastewater treatment which is reused later on for other purposes such as irrigation of green areas and a greenhouse. Before this introduction to the December activities is over, we want to say the following thing to you: this 2021 has been an amazing and enrichening journey, with all its ups and downs and all we have left to say is thank you. Thank you for always being there waiting month after month patiently for the news that each national committee has prepared with special care and effort in order to offer the best and most amazing experiences to you. We wish that this 2022 is filled with health, happiness and amazing new adventures for you and we encourage you to #KeepBelievingInIAAS and seize all the opportunities that this amazing family has to offer. GracIAAS por todo familIAAS!!! Yours truly, Pablo de Caso Udave National Director of IAAS Mexico
¿What is IAAS? At the EXPO Suelos y Recursos Naturales 2021 December 9th of 2021 (Online, Microsoft Teams & Facebook Live) By Jesús Alejandro Martínez Moreno (IAAS Mexico) This 30-minute presentation was delivered during the 2021 edition of the EXPO Suelos y Recursos Naturales (Soil and Natural Resources EXPO), organized by students of the Universidad Autónoma Chapingo (UACh). In this brief lecture, the participants had the opportunity to overview IAAS Mexico’s general information, such as the structure of the national committee, the IAAS projects, mission, vision, and how to form part of the association. To close this intervention, we were fortunate to count on the testimony and participation of two IAASers: Karinha Sosa Karinha Herebia Sosa (National Director of IAAS Paraguay), and María Mascaro María José Mascaro (Control Committee of IAAS Chile). This was a successful event where we reached more than 1,000 views on Facebook. More importantly, we had the opportunity to motivate students from diverse careers to join this fantastic international movement and association.
Professional growth and development 17th of December of 2021 (Online, Zoom) By Christopher Ramírez Rivera (IAAS Mexico) A virtual tour was organized at the “Planta de Tratamiento de Aguas Residuales Arca Continental - Coca Cola, " a wastewater treatment plant located in La Paz, Baja California Sur. This activity was carried out through the IAAS Ambassadors Mexico program with the main aim of raising awareness and promoting the importance of water resources in agriculture, illustrating the challenges faced by this sector in places where water availability is scarce and using alternative sources of supply such as industrial wastewater treatment is a feasible proposal to tackle climate change-related challenges. The virtual tour was delivered by the engineer Lucio Alejandro Espinoza Gálvez, the wastewater treatment plant supervisor. Considering the undergoing situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic brings with it the opportunity to explore new ways of transmitting knowledge in creative and innovative ways to fellow IAASers; this is why we decided to design a different experience from what we have been doing in the past. In this virtual tour, the aim was to offer the participants the opportunity to receive a lecture (generously delivered by experts in their respective fields) and take them on a journey to a distant place by exploiting the immersive experience that only digital media can offer. This was our first step towards a broader range of possibilities that we intend to explore to impact more IAASers with not only face-to-face activities or virtual ones but by having the best of both worlds.

INTRODUCTION FROM IAAS NATIONAL COMMITTEE
We had several posts in these two months. We shared wood bank with readers, which is very unique in Taiwan. We can save some old tree in the wood bank in order to keep the memory. We also talked about the doctors of the plants, which are the mixer of woodpecker and normal doctors. The doctors of the plants can also help the government to promote some policies and they can also give some suggestion to the farmers so that farmers can use less pesticide. Moreover, we had an online speech in March, which was about stock farming. One of the speaker told us about his previous experiences of stock farming in his family business and the other speaker told us about her internship in Denmark, which fascinated us a lot. She compare her experience is Denmark and current situation of stock farming in Taiwan, and we got a lot information from the online speech. We’re looking forward to the online speech of April. Humanitarian Fair 17th of December of 2021 (University of Agriculture Zagreb, Croatia) We decided to organize a Humanitarian Fair and help those in need in the Christmas spirit. It is a Fair we manage each year for the past four years, and we decide whom to donate the money to, which decorations to make, and what food we prepare to offer to our friends and family and our professor. In addition, we organized a Humanitarian Party. We sold tickets, and all of the mentioned activities gathered a profit which we donated to the organization called ‘Street Lights’ or in Croatian ‘Ulične svjetiljke.’ With this, we encouraged all to participate in donating and helping others when they could. Even a little is enough! Below you can see what we prepared and the poster we made for the Humanitarian Party!
Project ‘Agronom za 5’ 2th of December of 2021 (University of Agriculture Zagreb, Croatia)
On the 2nd of December, we held a PowerPoint presentation for the children aged 17 to 18 that go to the High school of Agriculture in Zagreb. With the help of our University of Agriculture, the principal of the high school, and the teachers, we organized a day of presentations for the children and the look around the University. The children were first introduced to the various paths and courses they could take if they would like to attend the University of Agriculture in Zagreb one day. They asked questions, and we had an interactive class presentation. Afterward, we showed them around the campus and allowed them to see the process of making wine firsthand! They were all excited and kept interacting with the students and the professors at the University. This project aims to show the younger population, still in high school, the possibilities of Agriculture and how it has benefited them and the whole world. Such projects give us insight into the number of young people still interested in bettering our way of life. This is a project that will happen again, in 2022 and perhaps even years after, because of the considerable success it has achieved among young ones and the University. Go further, go IAAS!
Plan for the year 2022 25th of December of 2021 (University of Agriculture Zagreb, Croatia) On our first meeting with the new board for IAAS Croatia, we shortly discussed our plans and ideas for the upcoming year. We will have a lot of seminars, conferences, social gatherings, donations, exchange programs, and trips, so stay tuned, keep up with our social media, and maybe we will have a chance to meet up! Stay in good health, and all the best!

Human of IAAS.
It was the time of 1st Lockdown when my senior told me about the IAAS, and within that time, I became excited and curious to join the IAAS. I started my journey as QB of communication in my LC. Now, I'm working in the National Committee as well. The bonding with new people and the teamwork with the unknown have been mesmerizing and memorable. Now, everyone has become like my own family. Not only this, IAAS has updated my personal development. The boy (me), who was unknown about teamwork and organizational work, now can know many things. It has increased my passion for designing, team mobilization, and patience. It was all possible because of the platform provided by IAAS. Thank you so much, IAAS, for this opportunity.
I was introduced to IAAS back in 2018 during our local committee's first opening ceremony, and since then, I have become committed to it. IAAS uplifted me and made me grow surrounded by unique experiences, I joined local, national, regional, and international teams, and by interacting virtually, we became a family. I successfully participated in many events, gatherings, and ceremonies which made this journey a life-changing opportunity and a trip I will always choose to be part of. I am forever thankful for IAAS and each individual I met during the last three years.

In November 2018, I went to South America by ExPro, participating in internships in Chile and Ecuador. My journey started in Chile/Temuco where I worked on a horticultural farm with many different crops. One of its purposes was to show indigenous people how to intensify their agricultural practices. On the other hand, the farm cooperated with the EU and other agronomic institutes. After that, Ecuador was calling. I had a warm welcome from Juan's family, where I stayed for most of the time. In Ecuador, I had three internships. Firstly, I worked at AgroScan, a Start-Up company that implemented the use of drones and sensors in agriculture. Secondly, I worked on a farm in the outback of Ecuador with phenomenal scenery. And last, I worked at Huma Chocolate, getting to know the processes of chocolate production from bean to bar. I visited the farms and one congress about chocolate which was very interesting.
