WELCOME ADDRESS On behalf of IAGTO and our hosts here in Thailand, I would like to welcome you all to the 2nd Asia Golf Tourism Convention. More than 4000 meetings took place at last year’s inaugural AGTC between buyers and suppliers and with even more IAGTO members participating this year this number will be even higher. Be sure to make the most of each evening’s social networking functions, Monday’s Welcome Reception on the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel’s Pool Terrace, Tuesday’s Gala Dinner at Nong Nooch Tropical Gardens, and Wednesday’s IAGTO Beach Party at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club only 5 minutes away from the Royal Cliff. This year’s AGTC is without doubt the most important golf tourism event ever to have been staged in Thailand and it is fitting that it takes place in Pattaya, voted Golf Destination of the Year for Asia & Australasia by IAGTO operators in 2012. Pattaya City has been incredibly supportive in hosting AGTC and I would like to thank them along with Chonburi Province, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Thailand Convention an Exhibition Bureau for providing the conditions that have allowed us to bring 150 golf tour operators to Thailand from 33 countries, all of them selling golf destinations in Asia. Thanks also to the EGA (East Coast Golf Courses Management Association) for their coordination and hard work, to the Royal Cliff Hotels Group for providing the perfect venue for such an important international event, and to our international partner sponsors for helping us deliver added value to all of the delegates here this week. GENERAL INFORMATION Speed-dating - Supplier meets Buyer Buyers will be seated at the tables at 10:45 on Tuesday in Hall B of PEACH. Suppliers will then have 2 hours to visit buyers who they do not have appointments with. The objective is for both supplier and buyer to introduce themselves to each other. Try to only take only a few of minutes and if you need more time, schedule a meeting during the Appointment Sessions.
Buyer meets Supplier Sessions The pre-scheduled appointments are only designed to get things started! With an equal number of buyers and suppliers you have a fantastic opportunity to have a wide range of useful meetings. The appointments are only 15 minutes each but you can of course speak for longer if neither delegate has a subsequent meeting or you can arrange to meet again later. Keep an eye on the appointment screens for the appointment number and listen out for the bell every 15 minutes.
Presentations & Seminars All presentations will take place in the Siam Ballroom located in The Royal Cliff Beach Hotel. The Opening Address on Tuesday morning will include important information for all delegates including a presentation from the host destination. On Wednesday morning there will be a series of short presentations on Cambodia, Philippines, Pebble Beach Resorts and Sanya, followed by an IAGTO briefing on our activities in Asia followed by the announcement of the venue for AGTC 2014!
Welcome Networking Reception This is a great opportunity to meet as many people as possible on the first night of AGTC. Sponsored by Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), this event will take place on the Pool Terrace of The Royal Cliff Beach Hotel. The Infini Bar on the Pool Terrace will be the de-facto IAGTO Bar both before and after the Welcome Reception and another useful meeting point.
AGTC Gala Dinner All AGTC delegates are being hosted for dinner on Tuesday evening by Pattaya City at the spectacular Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, 40 minutes drive from the Royal Cliff. Buses will depart the hotel between 18:30-19:00pm. Delegates not staying at the Royal Cliff can leave their bags with the concierge at the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel and hop on a bus or take a taxi from their hotel to this well known venue. Please note that it is an outdoor venue and the dress code will be casual. In the unlikely event that bad weather prevents the staging of an outdoor event, we will notify you during the afternoon business session on Wednesday and will host you instead for an informal function at the Royal Cliff’s Larn Thong restaurant where the networking can continue!
IAGTO Beach Party! A fleet of vehicles including some local Thai ‘song taews’ will be on hand from 18:00-21:00pm on Wednesday to shuttle delegates 5 minutes drive back and forth to the beach front Royal Varuna Yacht Club. This is a free evening so come with us between 6 and 7 to watch the sunset or drop by later whenever you like. Then from 20:00-22:00pm on the return journey the shuttle service will include second stop down at Pattaya’s main entertainment district, just 5 minutes from Royal Cliff.
Lunch A buffet lunch will be served in the PEACH restaurant on Tuesday and Wednesday which is included in the registration fee for all delegates. Badges must be worn.
AGTC Bar The Infini Bar on the pool terrace of the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel will be the official AGTC Bar on Monday night both before and after the Welcome Reception and will no doubt continue to be a popular meeting place throughout the event.
Table Set Up Suppliers can set up their tables on Monday afternoon after 15:00 and on Tuesday morning between 08:00-09:00. If you are using any free-standing displays, please ensure that they do not interfere with other delegates.
Internet & Electric Points Each supplier table is provided with one universal power outlet socket which can take 2 flat pin, 2 round pin and 3 flat pin plugs. Royal Cliff Hotel guests can enjoy free wifi on one device throughout the resort including PEACH. If the wifi speed in PEACH is not sufficient for your needs, you can buy a one-day high speed wifi card from the Information Counter at PEACH for 450 Thai Baht (US$ 15). Delegates not staying at the Royal Cliff can also purchase this wifi card at the same price. Only cash accepted (or sign to room).
Golf Tournament Delegates who have pre-registered for the AGTC Golf Tournament on Thursday 2 May will be playing at either The Burapha Golf Club or The Laem Chabang Country Club. Tournament pairings will be posted at the IAGTO registration desk.

During 2012, IAGTO member operator sales grew by an average of 9.3% worldwide, and the outlook is positive for 2013. IAGTO operators booked the travel arrangements for more than 1.6 million golfers in 2012 with golf holiday sales exceeding an estimated US$2 billion.
Thailand Leads the Way Thailand was the 5th fastest growing golf destination last year in terms of IAGTO operator sales, and for those same operators Thailand ranked 7th in order of importance. Next came the UAE (represented at AGTC by Dubai and Abu Dhabi), followed by Malaysia (hosts of last year’s AGTC), then the rising star of Vietnam along with China and Mauritius.
What are IAGTO Operators Saying? Australian operators are forecasting that 2013 is likely to be their most successful year to date as the Australian economy continues to thrive. The emerging golf destinations of Vietnam and Cambodia are expected to do well in 2013. Many operators are focusing on ensuring that their successes of 2012 are repeated in 2013 by looking after and fulfilling the demands and aspirations of their clients. The Philippines’ economy is booming (2nd fastest growing in Asia), which resulted in a good 2012 for outbound golf travel. The currency is strong against the dollar and it is expected to remain so throughout 2013. Philippine golfers tend to look for cooler destinations weather-wise and they also like to play courses that have a good caddy service. Chinese operators forecast a similar outlook in 2013 which saw an increase in outbound golf travel. IAGTO operators can react quickly to promote destinations where visa restrictions are relaxed. Prestigious courses are still high on the list for the Chinese golf traveller. IAGTO operators in India are confident of an increase in demand for international golf holidays in 2013 as golf continues to become more popular country-wide. Some Malaysian operators are looking to promote more destinations in 2013 at prices that are affordable as the sport broadens its appeal amongst a wider range of income levels. Demand is expected to grow for short-haul getaway trips of 2 nights/3 days with the associated short lead-in time.

What are IAGTO Suppliers Saying? All except one of the Top 10 producing markets for IAGTO’s Asian suppliers (golf resorts, golf courses, hotels and inbound operators) were Asian. The exception being Australia, which was considered to be the 6th most important market overall to IAGTO member Asian suppliers. The Top 4 markets were: 1) South Korea

Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan are all very important outbound markets with Vietnam and Thailand rising all the time.
