Sanya China’s only tropical resort city is now a focal point for golf The rising economy in China has generated numerous high-powered world-class sporting markets – and golf is one of them. With the country’s economy of scale and the prospect of being the world’s biggest market for the sport, China has become the focus of the international golfing community. Being the only tropical resort city of China, and with the central government’s support to turn Hainan into a center for golf in China, the focus has naturally been directed heavily on Sanya. Sanya has attracted numerous domestic and international golfers with its newly-developed golfing facilities and infrastructure, its geographical position and its natural tropical endowments. Sanya Luhuitou Golf Club The Sanya Luhuitou Golf Club course was designed by Nelson & Haworth, an American golf design company. It is a standard par-72 golf course with a total length of 7,310 yards (6,684m). The course and the greens are all covered with seashore paspalum, which grows favourably in tropical areas. With the beautiful Luhuitou Park in the back, the golf course faces the spectacular South China Sea. The azure sea, the silvery beach and a wide expanse of green meadows add to the beauty of the course and the place as a whole under the blue sky. It is another crown pearl of the fabulous seaside city of Sanya. Owned by the Shanghai Mingshen Group, the golf course has a total area of 2,600 acres (about 1.7 sq km). Hongtang Bay International Golf Club With a convenient location close to Sanya City between Tianya Haijiao and Nanshan Temple, Hongtang Bay Internatioal Golf Club is about a 30-minute drive from downtown Sanya and just a 10-minute drive from Sanya Phoenix Airport. The Scottish-style seashore golf course was designed by the world-famous designer Robert Trent Jones Jr, who took advantage of the natural ecological environment and factored in his own golf strategy in the creation of the course. Sanya Begonia Bay Golf Club Opened in September 2011, the Sanya Begonia Bay Golf Club course is located in the Haitang Bay C10 Area and is the newest golf course in Sanya, designed and constructed by the world-renowned golf course design company Nelson & Haworth. This 18-hole international championship course is the appointed golf course in China for the US PGA TOUR. The club has a par 72 championship course with a total length of 7,345 yards (6716m). Both the open sea and the inland sea surround the course. The sea, beach, mountain, rocks and many local plants make a unique natural environment that can’t be found at any other courses in China. Sanya Forest Valley Golf Club Sanya Forest Valley Golf Club is a world-class 18-hole, par 72 mountain golf course taking advantage of Hainan’s exclusive tropical rainforest and natural lakes and using the tranquillity of nature as its theme. It was created by the famous design company ATDL to present an intelligent and challenging golf course and fully utilises the natural surroundings to balance the course’s natural features. Dragon Valley Golf Club Dragon Valley Golf Club is a 19-hole course designed by US design corporation Schmidt-Curley. It is set on 215 acres and is surrounded by green mountains, lakes and grasslands. The course has a total length 7,276 yards (6,653m) and has a par of 75. The fairway design skilfully fuses with the physiognomy of the natural valleys and hills to create the objective of venturing out into nature. The club is located in Nanding Village, Taindu Town, Sanya City, adjacent to College Road. Sun Valley Golf Club Covering an area of 1,500 hectares (3,700 acres) and with an investment of RMB 20 billion, this 7,875 yard (7,200m) par-73 championship golf course is designed by the world famous golf design company JMP and is known for its large greens.
