Trump Turnberry Transforming an icon into one of the world’s most inspiring golf experiences In September 2015, work began on the biggest changes to the Ailsa course since its inception in 1901. Known the world over for its signature holes and legendary moments, architect Martin Ebert from Mackenzie & Ebert, has been tasked with making this iconic course even more impressive. T h i s f o u r-t i m e O p e n Championship course will see three of its most renowned coastal holes improve d to b e c om e the golfing world’s most inspiring and exciting playing experiences. The 9th hole will be transformed from a par 4 to create one of the most exhilarating par 3s in golf. A new, lengthened par 5 10th hole will play around Castle Port Bay, with new championship tees providing a number of options with the driver, the boldest being a 280-yard carry over the bay. A new green will be pushed back to the site of the existing 11th tee, providing a new, elevated position with the ocean as its immediate and stunning backdrop. The 11th hole will remain a par 3 but the green will be moved back left, meaning players will tee off across the bay in a phenomenal test of strength and ability.

In addition, changes are planned to the existing 18th. It will become a lengthened and straightened par 4, offering a new, elevated championship tee position on the dunes to give golfers a full view of the hotel for their final hole. This positioning will also give spectators and viewers a perfectly framed scene of players silhouetted on the horizon with the exceptional Turnberry seascape behind. Alterations will also take place at all other holes, including the reshaping and positioning of bunkers, new tees and green positions and the softening of green contours to provide for more options for flag positions. The changes for the Championship Ailsa course have been eagerly awaited for many years and, on the 1st of June 2016, the course will reopen, reborn. Along with the newly renovated clubhouse, it will provide golfers with what will undoubtedly be the world’s best golfing experience.
