Cobol Skills Programme Background Hogan Technology (IT), a Division of First National Bank, made a strategic decision to train unemployed youth of South Africa in Basic Information Technology Developmental skills. The key objective of this initiative is to build a pipeline and create a pool of talented young matriculants and graduates from which the Business Unit could recruit. Consequently, curbing the negative effects brought about by the war for talent. The Programme is aligned with the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS) 3 ­ ’to promote employability and sustainable livelihoods through skills development’. Essentially, the COBOL Skills Program provides support for business growth. The Programme has been structured in such a way that it provides the individual with a formal training programme, where lectures as well as experiential practical programming in the working environment are provided. Outline of the learning outcomes is as follows: Overview and concepts of the information technology environment; Planning and Design of a computer program; Programming in COBOL Programming in the mainframe environment; Who qualifies to participate in To qualify the candidate should possess a Matric certificate with high Maths the Programme? and English result (candidates in the process of completing Grade 12 should be able to provide evidence on interim results) OR; The candidate should be in the process of completing a Science, Commerce or Technology degree at the end of this year OR; Be in possession of a Bachelor of Science, Commerce, and Technology or equivalent degree with IT and/or Financial related subjects Location and duration of the  Cobol Skills Program will be offered at FNB Head Office in Johannesburg Programme  The duration of the Programme is 6 months of fulltime formal lectures and practical labs.  In accordance with the candidate’s academic background, career interests, and on the job training, a contract period of 6 months will offered  Experiential training takes place within project application teams in Hogan Technology on successful completion of the Entry Level Cobol Programming course. A coach will be allocated to assist the graduate during this period

Test Analyst Programme The aim of this programme is to train IT graduates who are aspiring to become test analysts, in FNB Testing methodologist and capacitate them in Quality centres. The target groups for the course are new graduates in IT who want to become Test analysts. The programme covers: a. b. c. d. e.

The basics of structured software testing Using Quality Centres Testing design for Automation Quality Test Professional (QTP) QTP advanced

Testing programme runs over a period of two months and after the learners have demonstrated that they are competent in the skill, they are placed in teams division within Hogan Technology and FNB business units for experiential learning for another 4 months. Career Prospects: After successful completion of the course these learners are placed as test analyst 1 (entry level position in this field). These are people who create and update automated scripts required to run automated regression testing process, Debug results, Maintain existing scripts and assist with analysis of test results. Information And Communications Technology (ICT) Learnership (ITBLP) 12 years ago leading companies from the ICT and banking sectors responded to a need for skilled IT staff with a learnership programme aimed at providing talented youngsters from the previously disadvantaged communities with advanced Information and Communication Technology training. ITBLP in partnership with the Belgium Campus, offer a qualification of a high standard ­ aligned with the needs of the international IT industry. Learners receive a Diploma in Information Technology, NQF level 6, with a total of 348 credits. The courseware includes the following courses: Programming Java, Computer Network & Security; Mainframe; Microsoft.net ; and Cobol. The duration of the course is 18 months ­ comprised of 12 of institutional training and 6 months workplace training. If vacant posts are available, employment is offered on successful completion of the course. Admission requirements ITBLP, sponsored by Bank Seta, Business Connexion, First National Bank, Gijima, MICA, Nedbank Ltd, South African Reserve Bank and Standard Bank, offers limited opportunities to applicants who satisfy the following admission requirements: South Africans who have matriculated and meet the minimum entry requirements for higher education as set out by the Department of Education, with above level 4 (D: Higher Grade or C: STD Grade) pass in Mathematics and English. Applicants be willing to study and stay in the Gauteng Province. Applicants must be willing to undergo screening assessments for a non­refundable fee of R 80.00 Applicants must have a SA Citizenship, must have no bad credit rating and no criminal record
