EDITOR’S NOTE You never truly know what you can do until you do it. I remember always wanting to learn how to sew but I never took a class. I would take my designs to a seamstress and have her create my designs. One day after the birth of my second daughter I decided to purchase a sewing machine. I got the sewing machine and the rest is history. There are so many things we want to do but instead of trying it, we continue to put it off. I didn’t realize that after I took the leap that it would create an additional stream of income for me. God had already put on the inside of me everything I prayed for. Are you limiting your income because of fear? Are you limiting your potential because of uncertainty? This year we’ve decided to join Nike and just do it! Once we’ve received clearance from heaven, we are doing it afraid, broke, and broken if we have to. There will never be perfect conditions to do anything. You just have to make a decision to leave where you are, to get where you want to be tomorrow. Queen, it’s time to leap!

GLOBAL WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS Contributing Writer: Ms. Enise Dalisma
Philippians 4:13 states, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. To some, this biblical scripture merely represents a common memory verse but to me, the words of Philippians 4:13 are the mantra for my life and what I’ve found to be my pillars of the fortress. My life wasn’t always easy. I’ve had to overcome many adversities and trials. As a teenager, unfortunately, my mother was physically separated from me and that placed a great strain on my living situations and ultimately the quality of care I received. My teenage years are filled with jumping from home to home hoping that one day I’m not told that I had finally worn out my welcome. Although this time was unsettling, something interesting happened from
it. What grew from that place of uncertainty was the promise I would give to myself that changed my life forever. I vowed that I would transcend from this place of brokenness and prove the naysayers wrong. I had decided that I was destined for greatness as I walked in living proof of Philippians 4:13. During this time, I tried to work on myself and really excavate the gifts that God had instilled in me. But of course, this was easier said than done. I went through a season questioning what my gift truly was and how would I seriously make a mark on this world and help those who may be wanting a better life for themselves as I did. Years had passed and I was doing well, but I didn’t feel as if I met my purpose.

Currently, GWE boasts of over 2,500 members in different countries and different industries. Collectively, we use social media platforms to host live broadcasts to do giveaways in an effort to give back to our community and keep hope alive. The kinship that has grown within this vast and growing network of women has led us to seek to enjoy the camaraderie of one another beyond virtual bounds. It is with this that I am pleased to announce that we have successfully planned our very first event which is a meet and greet we are calling, “GWE HOLIDAY”. On this day we will attend church together, take professional photos for our movement and thereafter eat and socialize amongst each other. We all an-

It wasn’t until the start of my business, Kourtneys Foreign Kart LLC, that I met tons of young hopeful women wanting to make a way for themselves through entrepreneurship. Through conversations with these clients, I learned that a lot of them had the initial interest and passion but longed for guidance when it came to developing a shrewd business acumen, which just so happened to be a strong self-taught topic for me. It was then in October 2020 that God gave me a vision. This vision was to create a global platform focused on inspiring, uplifting guiding, and encouraging women who have an interest in entrepreneurship. Following the vision God had given me, I created a group on Facebook called Global Women’s Entrepreneurs. It started with myself and two other page administrators. At first, things were going smoothly as we were connecting and networking. But then suddenly during Christmas time, the group became silent and we met a sort of stagnancy. It was here that God spoke to me again. He instructed me to choose more women to help me lead this assignment. He revealed to me to expand the leadership to include several key women, they
ticipate this event’s success. Women from all over the world are apart of this movement, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic many are unable to travel. However, I, Enise Dalisma, President of GWE will be in town to meet and greet the members of this great movement. Additionally, we are always welcoming new members to join the GWE family and we hope that one day we are recognized for our togetherness. We, the leadership and members of GWE find great pride in the work that we are doing as it is not every day that you find women building each other up. We will remain encouraged as we walk in the understanding that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us, and it is with God’s help and our commitment we will achieve great things individually and together.

AFRICA-AMERICA 2021: RE-ENVISIONING LIBERATION FOR THE GLOBAL BLACK DIASPORA
Written by scholars and practitioners for a general, non-specialist audience, the Journal of the Center for Policy Analysis and Research (JCPAR) follows the standard of a peer-reviewed, social science publication and serves as a conduit between research and policy. With just over 10 entries, this issue has a special focus on topics including in-depth and innovative approaches to help advance the
study of Black identities, ethnicities and diasporas, and in turn highlights how these perspectives inform representative governance and public policy. “The CBCF is committed to informing policy and educating the public, and this issue of the JCPAR presents in-depth historical research and perspectives that serve our mission to advance the global Black community,” said CBCF President and CEO Tonya Veasey. “This issue also includes a foreword written Congressional Black Caucus leadership. CBC Chairperson Rep. Joyce Beatty provides insight into the Black agenda and the role of the largest-ever CBC during the 117th Congress,” Veasey added. Published every two years, the Journal explains and helps readers better understand the factors, policies and socioeconomic conditions affecting African Americans and people of African descent in the United States and across the globe.
“The Journal of the Center for Policy Analysis and Research provides an active intellectual collaboration and necessary space to explore solutions to systemic discriminations and injustices,” said Dr. Patrice Johnson, vice president, Policy Analysis and Research and the Leadership Institute, CBCF. Dr. Johnson serves as the Journal’s co-managing editor. The publication also includes a special section devoted to the legacy of Dr. Ron Walters, a preeminent scholar of Black political studies, noted civil rights activist, and one of the founding architects of the CBC. Trusting God In 2021 BY: TAMMY FLAKES I noticed the most interesting thing when I plugged my iPhone into the computer to charge…. A message comes up on the screen of my telephone that asks if I trust the computer. It pops up every time I want to charge my cell phone and every time I must either press that I trust or don’t trust the computer. I find this interesting because charging my telephone causes me to make a choice. As I sit looking at my phone many times I get upset because I don’t want press the button to charge I feel like my phone should know the connection that I just made and STOP asking me if I trust the computer. However, the message serves as a security measure for me to accept that the connection is“safe and trusted” by me. I equate this to our spiritual walk with the Lord. During our faith journey with Jesus we will encounter many types of tests and trials. Our tests and trials cause us to make a choice. We must decide whether we will trust the Word of God to guide and instruct us or will we make life decisions depending solely on our experiences? I We must take the opportunity to invite the Lord into whatever our present situation is and seek Him
for our next move? Take a journey through joy, love, hope, and progression with me. The Lord desires to lead and direct us but we must make a choice of who we will follow. Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and leannottoyourownunderstanding….Proverbs 3:5 Merriam Webster’s Dictionary defines trust as, “assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something.” That sounds great on paper but when we must live trust out in our daily life there can be many struggles. I never really questioned whether I had trust because from the time I was a little girl I had an automatic distrust for people. It wasn’t that I understood the definition of the word trust or distrust. It was quite the contrary. I couldn’t explain either term but I always thought that people needed to be watched and until they performed what they said they would do that I could not believe them. So, by default I say I was a very distrusting person.

Imagine my surprise when at the age of 21 the everlasting Father saved my soul. Nobody ever told me that I could trust in Jesus and I bet if they told me that I would not have believed them anyway. But as I stood at the altar in front of the women who would later become my mother in law, I was broken and wounded and desperate to find someone, something, and anything that I could trust and lean on. She reassured me at the altar that I could leave changed, that all the things that I had done in my life could be forgiven and that most of all God loved me. I wanted to know how a God that I imagined knew all my dirt could love me and if he knew all of my dirt then HOW could he love me. What did he want from me? Could I trust him? So, today as we are entering the second month of 2021, I would like to encourage you to trust in the Lord. Let him review your business plans…your dating plans… your marriage plans…your life plans. I can assure you that you can trust Him. He will never let you down.

Former Stutterer Pushes Her Pain Into Purpose Sherrikka Myers is a national speaker who travels across the country to help schools close social gaps that often lead to bullying. She is the creator of the African American mascot, Lil’ Herbie who is featured in her book, “Herbie’s New Home”. Lil Herbie is based on her life and represents the little kid in her who stuttered as a child. She wants to instill in children how to overcome their obstacles, know that they can do all things through hard work and to never let anyone or anything stop them from fulfilling their dreams. President-elect Joe Biden’s win means a lot for a special community of people. Across the globe, 70 million people stutter and now have a public role model who they’ve seen conquer one of the most difficult challenges in the world, becoming president. Sherrikka Myers suffered from stuttering as a young child in a single-family household. After being forced to read the school announcements over the loudspeaker and being ridiculed by her entire school at age 11, she used reading a book aloud to beat stuttering. The daunting moment she found out her first grandchild also stuttered inspired her to go back to school at age 35 to better her life. Little did she know she would become a role model herself for so many. Children ages 3 to 6 are more likely than others to have a communication disorder. Myers created a new program, C.L.A.S.S. (Core Life And Social Skills), that has helped thousands of children grow exponentially. She has been able to witness im-
mense improvements such as reading comprehension jumping by up to 15 levels in just a few weeks. Unlike other programs that only focus on speech skills and techniques, this initiative targets the root causes and underlying triggers of stuttering, which are self-esteem and confidence. Her award-winning program through her nonprofit Every 1 Voice Matters, has been personally recognized by U.S. Congressman Joe Cunningham, and celebrities like retired NBA player Kenyon Martin and Seattle Seahawks NFL player Brandon Shell. She would like to share her tremendous story of hope and how she’s taken her personal pain and pushed it toward the purpose of impacting youth and sparking change for the next generation.
