PORTLAND @BAY EAST GARDEN The objectives of the project is to design a tower that explores the trans-formative quality of the chosen material. The premise of is to design a recreational tower with an observation deck using a chosen material and innovating new ways of utilizing it. My interest in concrete and water compels me to explore the potential of materiality and how this can be used in my design with the given site at the bay east garden.

The reclamation of land from surrounding waters is used in Singapore to expand the citystate’s limited area of usable, natural land. It is done to cope with rapid urbanization and development. Gardens By the Bay is one of the reclaimed area. The site locates at the Bay East Garden, the second largest of the three gardens at the Gardens by the Bay, which offers a tranquil respite from the bustling city and a stunning view of the Singapore skyline. The Founders’ Memorials will be constructed at the site to commemorate values and ideals exemplified by Singapore’s late founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, other first-generation leaders and key personalities who played important roles in the nation’s path to independence

SUZHOU IMPRESSION INSTALLATION With rapid industrialization and urbanization, distinct cultures face greater challenges that they are more susceptible to influences. It is evident in my hometown Suzhou here the Wu Culture was cradled and nurtured. Suzhou is like a melting pot where there are fusions of modernization and culture, as well as tensions between heritage and progress. While its rich culture is saturated with metropolis of industry and commerce, I want to express my concerns about the preservation and loss of Wu culture in Suzhou through exploration and personal interpretation of integration and transformation.

“Form Follows Health and Well-being: Architecture and the City in the Age of Pandemics” suggests, architects and urban designers, together with many other professionals and those in the work forces, are faced with overwhelming, competing challenges and uncharted waters. This studio shall research and identify how conventional behavior can be adapted and adopted to the current urban and social conditions, and to use them as possible trajectory design solutions for the foreseeable future.
Whampoa is a housing estate located in the subzone of Balestier, which is a part of Novena planning area in Singapore, as defined by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. Within the context of the Housing and Development Board (HDB), however, Whampoa forms part of the Kallang/Whampoa New Town, together with the various housing precincts located in the adjacent Kallang planning area. This makes Kallang/Whampoa the only HDB new town that encompasses two planning areas, namely Novena and Kallang.

Saint Michael’s Terminal is a small bus terminal located within the Whampoa estate, and despite its name, is not located near St. Michael’s Road. It is bordered by Whampoa Road on the north edge and Sungei Whampoa canal on the south edge.

In our master plan, we propose alternative sustainable moods of transportation should be adopted in the next decades. The main objectives would be make cycling more convenient and safe which lead us to partial pedestrianization of the existing roads with less vehicular traffic but with heavy pedestrian traffic.

The project site is the existing St Michael’s bus terminal. Due to ample bus stop catchment nearby whining the community, the existing St Michael’s bus terminal serves as almost a mere bus depot, even though it was designed to serve the entire Whampoa community and nearby estate.

Whampoa transit attempt to create a Mobility Hub that provides a focal point in the transportation network that integrates different modes of transportation, specifically cycling, walking and public bus. It was designed with the intention to create an intensified transport hub revolves around cycling as the main mode of transportation in the future. The design is informed by the circulation of the cyclists and pedestrians as both a destination, pitstop and a transitional point in order to encourage both activities and interaction between them.
