The Passing Storm by Ian A. Cook
Duration: 5'00''
Program Note The Passing Storm was written for the Lirica Chamber Ensemble, conducted by Nicole Parks. The piece, which was inspired by the painting Tornado Over St. Paul by Julius Holm, depicts the passage of a storm using aleatoric techniques. The piece begins with a sense of foreboding, building until the thunderous storm finally breaks, leaving a quiet, lonely scene behind. The pain is soon forgotten as a soaring melody develops, but the relief is not longlived; a quiet recollection of the storm closes the piece.
