About Me

I

personally wanted to be in the design industry from an early age. Graphic Design for me is a job where you can express feelings or emotions through artworks. It can also portray different visual judgements and identities through brands. Design is a language in itself, not everyone will be able to get the whole message across like the person standing next to them, every single one sees things differently. As a designer I have to make sure that the message I want to convey is understood clearly by each and every individual. Breaking specific rules in the industry will help you improve in creating a one of a kind polished work. Adjusting according to the client’s needs is essential. Being a photographer gives you the privilege to explore in depth what is around you. Having an eye for details will also help you through the design and photographic journey. The love for architecture photography is growing deeper by every single sunrise. Geometry, shadows and sunlight are the main components I look for in architecture photography. Nonetheless fashion photography is also a preferred subject where I get to meet different models in the fashion industry. Working hand in hand together we as a whole team manage to capture creative and fun photos within the industry standard.

Branding

“Brand is not a product, that’s for sure; it’s not one item. It’s an idea, it’s a theory, it’s a meaning, it’s how you carry yourself. It’s aspirational, it’s inspirational.” Kevin Plank

Creative Labs

C

reative Labs was one of my proposed concept. Working alone gave me the privilege to experiment further more into a specific style. There is a whole reason why I chose to name it that way. In my opinion, the way we work as design and art students is very similar to that of a scientist’s job. This is similar to what us as designers and artists do in our work, we research, sketch, find something that inspire us, make use of it and finally create our own final product. Their work is quite similar right ?

The logo is quite colourful therefore I decided to base my design in a clean manner. Plenty of white will make the logo colours stand out and it will of course look clean. This type of design inspiration came from when I had the opportunity to visit the inside of the new Parliament in Valletta where Renzo Piano uses loads of white colour in the design and then puts a splash of colour in the room let’s say a green chair. The project manager has also explained to me that this technique creates contrast and makes the design looks cleaner.

MICAS

M

ICAS is a contemporary art space that will be based in Malta. There will be artists from all around the world taking part in exhibitions along with talented Maltese artists. I had to create the logo and other design material. My logo is made up of four different shades of Pantone red, giving it a unique and contemporary design.

Voices

V

oices is a non-profit organisation, that organises concerts to collect money for charity. I had to design the brand of the year 2014 concert. I came up with the concept of a flower for the logo. The stem represent the soul of the people whilst the flower is the heart and the scent represents the voices of the choir.

Young Stars

Y

oung Stars is a non existent company in which I created to test my skills regards branding. I created a clothing brand including the logo design. The brand will be worldwide and will attract young men that like to wear unique and stylish. A brand extension was also created with the name “Saturn, which is a perfume for men.

T

he identity and branding of a Maltese Restaurant based in the International Hotel Intercontinental St.Julians. The identity immediately symbolises a restaurant from the cutlery which can be seen from the logo itself. I chose to use a simple colour palette yet an eyecatching one, red is also associated with food and conveys hunger. This was a fun project to do during my summer holidays.

Typography

“Typography is the craft of endowing human language with a durable visual form.” Robert Bringhurst

Bodoni

I

n this project I created a font book based on the Bodoni typeface. First, I had to make an intense study on what the typeface is used for and what are its characteristics which defines the font. After I chose a poem of Allen Ginsberg from which I took words to use for my font book. The results produced shows experiments using only the typeface Bodoni.

Beat Convention

A

n interesting poster design. During this project I had to create a poster for the Beat Convention festival of poetry, film and music being held in Valletta, Malta. The poster was created with the typeface Bodoni following further study and research. One can also notice that I decided to give a modern twist to a vintage photo. The round cornered box looks great on the photo and the vintage pattern created an amazing final result.

Death & Fame

D

uring this project I chose a poem from the poet Allen Ginsberg which formed part of The Beat Generation. I transferred the poem into a poster, explaining the poem. The poster’s background is handmade where it also gave an interesting feel to the design. Everything was hand painted on an old newspaper which includes an article on death. Since the poem is not straight forward I decided to make the design in a way that the text is illegible, except for the title of the poem “Death & Fame”.

Advertising

“Advertising is the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Jerry Della Femina

Flexure

F

lexure is a web application that works on various internet browsers. It was designed and developed by a group of graphic design and interactive media students as part of a gamification research exercise in context of life for a better living. We were in a group of four where together with my colleagues we managed to come up with a gamification application. I was responsible for the implementation of design elements and to commit specific attention on the advertising where certain methods have been used to create a high quality final outcome.

Packaging

“Good design is all about making other designers feel like idiots because that idea wasn’t theirs.” Frank Chimero

Ellen Degeneres

I

n this project I designed a package for Ellen Degeneres. She was always one of my favourite persons as she helps people, make them laugh and has a great character herself. She hosts a daily show in which she interviews different famous celebrities. She also loves dancing during her show. The colour yellow shows happiness therefore when looking at the product it makes you happy instantly. The blazer represents Ellen, in the way she dresses, always smart! It was than put in a box to make it look like a complete professional package.
